  • Great Option for a Budget Chair - Love the Adjustability
Color: Black
I've had this chair for a couple weeks now and am pretty happy with it. I was using a hand-me-down gaming chair that was super cheap, falling apart and starting to hurt my back. Instead of getting another gaming chair, which I feel like are mostly for looks and don't really provide any support, I wanted an ergonomic one, but didn't have several hundred dollars to a grand to throw at a really nice brand name chair. This is the only chair I found that fit both my budget and my criteria: all mesh, adjustable lumbar, included adjustable headrest, tilt tension control, and adjustable armrests. For reference, I'm 5'4, 120 lbs, and this chair fits me really comfortably. I like the lumbar on the most shallow setting--it's just enough support without being obtrusive, and I'm really glad you can adjust the height. I love being able to adjust the seat tilt and tension as well, since I'm super active in my chair and like to rock back and forth at my desk and lean back for breaks. I sit at my desk all day for work, and after work I stay there and game, so I needed a chair that would recline and be good for lounging too (also why the headrest was so important). There is hard plastic on the edges of the seat and backrest, but it doesn't really bother me. I like to be an "ergonomic rebel" and sit cross-legged a lot, and I don't find that the edges of the seat hurt my legs. Although I'm on the shorter side, so your mileage may vary if you're taller and like to sit with your legs curled up. The mesh feels firm and has enough give to be comfortable while providing support and breathing. Again, I'm on the smaller side so I don't think the mesh sagging will be too much of an issue for me personally. I actually really like the headrest--it fits in the curve of my neck comfortably, and even though you can't move it forward or back, I feel like being able to tilt up and down and change the height makes up for it. You'll definitely want to take time to play around with the adjustability and find the right fit for you. The only other thing I would have liked is the ability to move the arms in and out horizontally (I like to have the arm rests really close to me, but if you need them to be wider it looks like you can move them farther apart when assembling), but I wasn't expecting to find that in a $200 chair, and I'm just glad I can adjust the arm rests forwards backwards, up, down, and rotate them. I use that functionality a lot, so it works great for my needs. The arm rests themselves are made of a pretty hard rubber but have some slight give, so not just rock-hard plastic. If you need the arm rests to be cushy you can probably get covers for them. Assembly was pretty straightforward, but I followed their video as well just to make sure I did it right. Some of the castors required extra force to attach, but felt solid once they were in. Haven't had any issues with squeaking or creaking yet--still feels pretty sturdy (and I sit in it for 10+ hours a day). I did check all the pieces for scuffs, dents, or tears before assembling, but everything was in good condition. I'd read great reviews about SIHOO's customer support beforehand though so I wasn't worried in the case I did need to replace anything. Overall, if you want a chair that has ergonomic features and adjustability, and doesn't break the bank, I'd recommend this one. I did weeks of research before deciding on it and I'm pretty happy with my decision, especially for the price! In the future when I have a thousand dollars to invest in a Herman Miller or Haworth I'll probably upgrade, but I'm more than happy with this chair in the meantime. ... show more

  • biggest gripe is back doesn’t come forward to 90 degrees for full back support sitting straight up
Color: Black
UPDATE (9/22/2023, tried it for 5 days): this chair is really uncomfortable and it's because there isn't full back support - the recline on the chair is all the way forward & there is no support on my upper back when I sit straight up. therefore, all the compression goes into your lower back which is why the lumbar support feels so bad (see photo). I suspect it's due to poor design. Thankfully, it is possible to disassemble and get back in the shipping box (your Tetris skills will come in handy esp if you can't get the gas piston out of the chair metal base like us). I had high hopes for this chair from what looks like a reputable Chinese company - you get what you pay for and now going to find a used office chair under $300 that normally retails at $1k - just like your bed, it will be worth paying an extra 50%! This review is totally based on first impressions immediately after putting it together. I’m likely to come back and update my medium and long-term experience I shopped around quite a bit and what distinguished this chair (and a few others) is the 4-way lumbar pillow adjustment. I previously sat in the $100 chair they have at Costco and was pretty turned off by the fact that (1) it was plastic and (2) I wasn’t able to adjust the lumbar in/out (aka depth) - the depth adjustment is key - this was really obvious in the first 10 minutes sitting in the chair (and I previously had a Haworth X99 with a similar adjustment). Time will tell if the lumbar is “pokey” like other reviews share but I need the lumbar support and definitely used to some degree of pokiness from other chairs (and even my car’s driver seat) I considered SIHOO’s M18 chair and decided to pay extra for the mesh seat, fully adjustable armrests (the M18 only move up and down which is the bare minimum), and what sounds like better construction from reviews. It took about an hour to put the chair together (I took my time, if I had to do it again, it probably would only take 30-45 minutes) A nifty hex tool was included as well as some cloth gloves (which impressed me) - helps protect your hands not only from getting dirty but also from random metal edges while putting the base together. I’d have a rubber mallet handy, while putting the 5 spokes into the hub of the base of the chair, 2 of them needed an extra nudge. you could probably force the screw in but I didn’t want to do that. It takes a bit of a push to put the wheels in. the instructions aren’t clear how far they are supposed to go in but they eventually go all the way in with some wiggling. So now that the chair is put together, I’m writing this review sitting in the chair. you definitely get what you pay for. it’s not a bad chair and I think my immediate gripe is I wish the back would sit straight up just a tad bit more to encourage good posture (I would like the upper part of the chair to press on my upper back while the lumbar support presses on my lower spine). and if the back were to sit up straight a bit more, the headrest would also support my head while sitting straight up (which admittedly would be nice). so the headrest doesn’t really function unless you are reclining in the chair. I’m happy I’m able to lower the seat at a level where my feet are flat on the floor and my legs are at 90 degrees while at the same time, raise the armrests so they are level with my desktop. being able to swivel both armrests inward is useful as I’m often typing. the armrests can also move towards my desk which again helps with ergonomics. I have a Haworth X99 executive task chair overseas I got for a grand (back in 2004) to nurse my bad back so I know exactly what a quality chair should feel like. I went in buying this chair knowing not to expect the same experience for a fifth the price. Some reviews claim this chair has comparable comfort to an Aeron (which is also another $1k chair) - and while I have every reason to be skeptical, if the M57 was anywhere in between my expectations of a $200 and a $1k chair, I figured we’re doing ok. This is my thought process and just a reminder not to expect to easily put this chair back in the box - unless you have a friend who has this exact chair, you’re pretty much buying it on blind faith and not going to be able to easily return it. So go to an office furniture store that sells the $2k Aeron chair and everything in between (also go to Staples or Costco to sit in $50-100 chairs if you need to) and sort out what features you really want. It will really help you narrow down your choices here on Amazon to 2 or 3 chairs you would seriously consider and just pick one (probably based on budget). Good luck! ... show more
