My upstairs is always very humid, which means my air conditioner has to run overtime to keep the Houston heat under control. I also routed the drain to fill my pool, measuring the flow I'm getting several gallons an hour just from this unit. The drain is an actual garden hose thread (GHT) fitting, unlike other units I've had with NPT fittings. I much prefer this device's GHT drain. The pump is silent. I can't tell if it's actually working or not, actually, which could become a problem in the future. Additionally, the air output comes out the top at about a 45-degree angle to the right, like 2 o'clock, if you're facing it. I had to turn the unit 90 degrees to get the warm dry air into the middle of the room, but that's not a big deal. This unit does have two filters on it, the first is a standard plastic cloth filter like a dryer lint catcher, and then there's a thin sponge-type filter cloth behind it. I can say the condenser vanes are cleaner due to this extra filter. I'll be cleaning the filter every 3-4 months, instead of every month. Overall, I really like this unit, definitely recommend it. Also of note- I have it plugged into a smart switch (there's no app for this, to be clear), at almost 100% duty cycle on a warm muggy day in Houston, it burned 10kWh in 24 hours, which has more than offset what the AC now doesn't have to do, I don't have hard numbers but there's a detectable reduction in the runtime of the AC, which is a dedicated 240VAC 60A circuit (the bulk of my power bill).

I live in FL and thus a dehumidifier is a must. Since I travel quite a bit, a humidifier with a pump is preferred. When my old one broke, I order one of a different brand. It was noisy. The worst was that the pump wouldn't start until the tank was full, and the pump would only pump out 1/3 of the water in the tank. So I searched and found this Shinco 5000 Sq Ft unit. I was so happy to it was so quiet that I hardly noticed it was on. The pump works really well and not letting a single drop of water into the tank. I was so happy with it that I bought a 2nd unit for my vacation home.

I purchased this dehumidifier in May 2025 to replace one that had been in constant use in my basement for over a dozen years. I set this one up and it functioned quietly and efficiently, with easy controls. It pulled a bucketful of water out every day -- until it didn't. I set it initially for 45% humidity and it consistently keep the humidity between 45 and 50%. I wanted it lower, so I reset it for 40% and it kept humidity between 40 and 45%, which is what I wanted. It functioned perfectly for three months until September when it ceased to function properly. While it still ran, the humidity stayed high and very little water accumulated in the bin. It appeared that the evaporation cooling function had failed, as ice accumulated on the coils once but after that no ice or cooling. I cycled it on and off several times, but no change. I contacted the seller and they asked me to try a couple of settings, which made no difference in operation. Finally, they offered me my money back. I asked them for a replacement unit instead, thinking two bad units in a row was unlikely, but they declined. So they had me sever the electrical cord, send them a photo of it and then they refunded my money. Now I need to buy a different dehumidifier.

We just received our Shinco 70 Pints Energy Star Dehumidifier with Pump, for Home, Basements, Room up to 7,000 Sq.Ft with Auto or Manual Drainage. Both the box and the owners’ manual came with instructions to be certain the dehumidifier is stored upright for 24 prior to being plugged in and used. We waited more than the 24 hours before plugging it in, as it wasn’t possible to know how the unit was stored or shipped prior to arrival. Pros: - The device is easy to set up. - The instructions were good but could have been a little clearer regarding initially starting the unit. Cons: - The unit appears that it may have been opened previously for two reasons: 1. When it was unboxed, I found the bottom of the box was missing (the corrugated cardboard flaps were missing – see photo). This could be by design so people don’t tip the box upside down to take the dehumidifier out but that wasn’t clear. Plastic shipping straps were used to keep the dehumidifier from falling out the bottom. 2. When the unit was first plugged in, it did not start in “automatic” mode as indicated in the instructions and appeared to return to prior settings and, it began running immediately when it was plugged in rather than needing to press the on button as indicated in the instructions. Not knowing if the unit was used previously is a bit concerning, especially due to the price but, the other packing materials appear to be new and unused. The unit was clean and appears to be working now that I’ve set the desired level to draw moisture out of the air. Note: I’ve yet to test the pump but will update the post if found not to be working. Summary: Very nice unit. Easy to set up. Very similar to our prior 70 pint Frigidaire dehumidifier that worked flawlessly for the past six (6) years. If anyone else has purchased one, I’d be interested to hear if the bottom of their box was also missing.

Very disappointed with the delay in the delivery and any communication provided prior to an early evening update on the extended delay in the shipment would have brought local if I would have known. Thanks to Amazon for getting my refund and my 4 year protection plan. I hesitated to place another order but fortunately it was delivered in a very timely manner and actually arrived before the delivery date. Connected and so far it is working great. Time will tell and hopefully it doesn’t freeze up like many others are saying in the reviews.

My dehumidifier luck is like 1 year. I bought a Black & Decker from Amazon and it lasted a year. Fortunately I bought the extra warranty and was refunded instantly. Shinco? Well they're all Chinese and I bought this 75 pint unit. It socks the moisture out of the air in no time and pumps water into the sink. Year 2 it started freezing up with a HUGE block of ice. After I removed the extra black filter that came with the unit it's back yo 100% normal. So far it's the best I had even better than my expensive Fredericks.
