I purchased 2 of these, one for each of my sons. FedEx delivered them earlier than expected which was good except, we ended up with the worst possible delivery driver. As I watched from my front door, this guy dropped one of the ac units and then left them at the far end of my property, 50ft from my door. Now upon opening, I'm not sure if being dropped caused the damage, or it it existed already. The grounding pin on the plug was broken off and the sliding window part for the exhaust tube was cracked. I am assuming the drop is the cause because the other unit is perfectly fine. To be fair to Shinco, I immediately ordered a new LCDI cord with next day delivery (thanks Amazon), changed the cord out and everything was fine. The units are decent, as they do their job by cooling the rooms they're in. The other reviews saying they are to loud, are ridiculous... they're air conditioners, they make noise, it's normal. FedEx aside, we are happy with these air conditioners ... show more

I just installed the unit, not too bad except you will most like have to cut the slider on the window kit. Our window was a pretty standard size and the slide partly blocked the exhaust hole. one cut with a circular saw and it was all good. It is loud but I sort of expected that. it seems to doing a good job cooling the office room but it will have to be turned off for Zoom meetings. remote is nice except the Sleep mode seems to be nothing more than the Low fan mode. not sure why its a separate button. for sleeping, it would be really nice if it had a low fan setting. the current low fan setting isnt very low. ... show more

I live in an A-frame house that we added on to, our house was built in 1975 we do not have heat to our up stairs and don’t have air conditioning either- so we heat the upstairs with electric fireplaces in-the winter summer is tricky because are no windows up stairs just a porch with sliding glass doors on each end of the house -there are two very large bedrooms upstairs one side of the upstairs is my room the other side is my children’s - anyway my kids air went out- the last couple portable air conditioners I bought sucked they basically were a dehumidifier with a fan that blew semi cold air- my boys set this up by there self, I work midnights so when it arrived I was asleep my kids are 15&9yrs old - when I woke up it had been running for 6 hours and their room was an icebox I was completely surprised since it looked like the last few I bought - and I paid much less for this unit than the other ones. Their room is 30x18 it says it’s good for 400sf their room is larger than that by 140ft and it does so well my kids shut it off at night. It is loud but to be able to be cool to go to bed it’s totally worth it. ... show more

We got this for a bedroom that has windows too narrow for a conventional window AC. It cools the room very fast; the remote is handy (although I plugged it into a WeMo smart plug so I can turn it on remotely to cool the room down before bedtime), and setup was pretty easy (although I did have to cut down the window insert to fit). Others have noted that this AC is very loud, but even that is something of an understatement. It's like sleeping in a jet engine. But it's a consistent sound, and if you're the type that prefers white noise when you sleep (like we are), that's not necessarily a bad thing. Just don't expect to watch TV in the same room as this thing when it's running. ... show more

Started up the AC unit from start to finish in about 15 mins. Very quick and easy install. We purchased this as a backup ac unit if our power goes out to be run off a dedicated 4600w generator. Not to be used as a primary room cooler. That being said, the unit seemed to cool down the game room upstairs pretty quickly when we tested it's performance. Room size was 13'x16'. The only problem is, it sounds like a hurricane outside our window. So many noises. Over the sound of the movie and Bose soundbar, you could still hear the unit.. We are going to keep the unit for the backup reasons alone. But if you are wanting this for a bedroom, I don't see any way it would be comfortable to sleep with the noise level this puts out. Remote seemed to work from across the room, no complaints with that functionality. ... show more

    • Amazon quickly makes good on first delivered unworking & subpar product.

The first delivery of the 8,000 BTU Shinto product had hose attachment issues. But once taped, the electrical system, even with reset, never turned the first machine on. Amazon's customer service representative quickly issued an order for a new Shinto 8000 BTU replacement, which arrived this AM. (First unworking machine was likely a return from another customer, perhaps, also unhappy with the hose connection issues and/or the electrical problem. However, the replacement, new, Shinto A/C works very well. No slight marks on the body as the other had, either. The hose is awesome & sound attachments keep it together and connected. Yes, I was worried when first plugged in...but the reset button, held for ten seconds, lit up the replacement, new, machine with cool air results, in a flash. Very happy with Amazon's quick response, kindness, and efficiency, working with UPS -- as the best teamwork, ever. Just in time for the hot weather today, with my old Teppco version of very same A/C working in Living Room/Study; the new Shinto version works in the bedroom & cools the long hallway between the rooms. Thank you, Amazon & UPS, (and Shinto, for buying the Teppco version product line). ... show more

Couldn't figure out how to get the vent hose all the way into the vent hole since it overlaps in the back, this wouldn't happen if the window was a little bit taller but this window is pretty large... If we used our own screw and screwed it in, it would be 100 percent secure but it seems to be staying just fine the way it is (mostly in the vent hole) and it blows cold, very happy to have gotten this with the prime deal. ... show more

Works well in the short time I have owned it. Venting tube is so-so, having a hard time staying in place but every other portable unit I looked at has the same set-up. We have it in a room that is approx. 300 sq. ft. but with 18 foot high ceilings. It cools the room down from 80 to 68 in about 30 minutes. The price was very good. ... show more
