🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The 5000 BTU AC unit generally impresses with its small size and energy efficient cooling. It is easy to install and delivers impressively in cooling fairly large and small spaces alike. However, some users report that some adjustments may be required, such as separating the thermostat sensor wire from the evaporator coil to prevent short cycles. Humid environment users may also find the unit stores condensation rather than draining it, which can lead to somewhat loud noises.

Pros

  • 👍 Efficient cooling for small and larger spaces
  • 👍 Energy efficient
  • 👍 Fairly straightforward to install
  • 👍 Simple design with no unnecessary frills

Cons

  • 👎 The 5000 BTU model may require some adjustments due to factory issues
  • 👎 Stored condensation may result in occasionally loud noises
  • 👎 No drain mechanism in case of excess water build-up
  • 👎 Limited connectivity features such as Wi-Fi and remote control

Should I Buy It?

Based on the reviews, the 5000 BTU AC unit seems like a great temporary solution or addition to a central AC system, especially considering its energy efficiency. However, potential buyers in very humid climates or those wanting high-tech connectedness may want to research more options. Overall, if you're willing to potentially make some manual adjustments, this might be a strong choice for its performance and price point.

  • Great little unit for small spaces
Style: 5,000 BTU Mechanical Controls
Quick update - It was in the upper 90s here all weekend. I turned the A/C unit on about an hour before bed every night and it would cool from close to 80 to mid-70s in an hour when set on "high cool" and 6 out of 7. That made it comfortable to fall asleep. I then turned it to "low cool" and went right to sleep - no issue with the sound. The first night, I was actually chilly when I woke up in the middle of the night so I changed it to 5 out of 7 for the temp setting. That seemed to be perfect. It stayed comfortable all night. To reiterate - this is for a single, small room. The 2 rooms we put these in are 150 - 200 s.f. each. We keep the doors closed when they're running. If that's what you're looking for, you'll probably be very happy! But if you want to cool a bigger space, buy a bigger and more expensive A/C. See below for more detailed initial review: I bought 2 of these little A/C units for the upstairs bedrooms in my house. I live in the south and when it is in the 90s for several weeks at a time, the upstairs of my house stays hot even at night. I got these to make the bedrooms for comfortable for sleeping. They are small units, only suitable for a single room. The nice thing is that a single person can easily carry them from the porch to wherever you want to install them. They are not super heavy. I got mine upstairs just fine. The installation is also very simple. You don't need anything extra - the package comes with the top bracket and the side panels. If you want to buy a support bracket, you could but it is not a heavy unit so not necessary. Installation took me an hour in total. That included a quick trip to the hardware store for an extra piece of wood to put on my window frame. If you have a storm window frame on the outside that is a bit higher than the inside window sill, you'll need a piece of wood. This is explained in the instruction manual. Once we got that, it was quick work to drill a few holes and put it up. The air conditioner feels very secure and does not wobble. It also does come with weather stripping if you want to get all fancy, but we'll just keep the bedroom doors closed so I didn't get too careful. The unit is remarkably quiet! The extra piece of wood we added to the window sill probably helped. But it sounds like something I can sleep through no problem. It sounds like white noise - kind of like a hotel air conditioner but it is a constant hum so it won't bother most people. It does not rattle. But keep in mind, this is not a $500 air conditioner and it does make noise! It is just soothing noise because it is making the air cool and happy. Overall, I recommend this air conditioner if you have a single room that you want to cool down, don't mind a humming white noice sound, and also don't want to spend a lot of money. ... show more

  • FANTASTIC little ac unit!
Style: 5,000 BTU Mechanical Controls
During this years heat wave, my wife and I bought this to keep our second story bedroom cool. The room that its cooling is about what the manufacturer rates it for, about 150-200 sq ft. This ac unit keeps it cold, easily! Not cool, cold. Its built solid, but not heavy, so moving it and set up is a super easy task. Its not oppressively loud, its not quiet by any means but we sleep through it just fine. Last week, we had a hot humid day with a heat index of 104 degrees, and using an indoor thermometer, this unit set on low kept the bedroom at 64 degrees no problem. On high, I have no doubt we would have been sub-60 degrees easily. Great value, couldn't be happier with this little ac unit! ... show more

  • Perfect for a Small Room.
Style: 5,000 BTU Mechanical Controls
Purchased two of these as they were on sale and so far they've been working great. Both my mother and I are enjoying cold air in the middle of this heatwave. -They are light-ish. Not that difficult to manage but still probably want to have someone else give a hand with placement. -The cord is really long and that actually came in handy. -The output is really good. <Though I still have a tower fan there to help distribute the air further/faster but have actually been a little too cold a few nights. -It is quiet, and I thought it was broken at first lol. -Will restart if power goes out. <Glad it does because this is kinda a deal breaker for me. I had an AC that needed to be turned back on after every power outage. That thing might as well have been a paperweight for the amount of good it did me. Cons: -This is a general issue with any AC and that being the radiator is easily warped. Nothing you can do other than show extra precaution, but that's a design issue that nearly every window unit has. -I don't consider it a "Con" but this unit does not come with a remote or selectable temperatures. It has high cold or low cold (and fan only high/low) but no way to select a specific temperature. Note: -An important notice is that (with most any cooling system) you NEED to let the AC sit upright for at least an hour before turning on. The coolants have to settle for it to function correctly and it may not work properly if you don't give it time to do so. ... show more

  • Great purchase I would buy it again
Style: 5,000 BTU Mechanical Controls
I'm really pleased with this unit it works quite well. I'm a single woman, I'm not super strong, it is a little bit on the heavy side but I was able to move it with the aid of my office chair. I placed it in my bedroom window and it actually cools down my bedroom and my attached office area when I have the door open and a fan going. I purchased the manual one because it was more affordable and it said it cools 250 ft versus the 150 on the remote control one I think the remote would have been nice but if that is accurate I'm happy with what I got. It is not quiet, it's not super loud but it's a little bit louder than a fan I sleep with earplugs anyway. I would buy it again. ... show more

  • Smaller than expected yet cools like a large AC unit
Style: 5,000 BTU Mechanical Controls
Well built, very durable, easy to install, small enough to fit in even outdoor shed Windows which are tiny and it does what it's supposed to do...that makes it a 10 star review in my mind. The unit is not overly noisy and helps us to sleep with the gentle sound it makes...almost like white noise. Easily cools a 15x16 bedroom, which is at the end of our central air trunk and is usually 10° warmer in summer and 10° cooler in winter. I'm glad I bought an additional unit for my husband's 13x20 "man cave" shed outdoors... It keeps the him cool outdoors in that shed, even with temperatures over 90°. I am very pleased with these two units and would highly recommend to anyone needing a cooling unit for rooms that are just not cooling down like the rest of the house or outdoor gardening sheds and man caves... I honestly think it would even help in a small animal Barn. The price is amazing and worth trying. Ease of cleaning and the remote were frosting on the cake!! ... show more
