I am well pleased on how well this unit cools. It's not as quiet as a side discharge, but it is not annoyingly loud either. The filter is extremely easy to get to and clean. It cools well enough to leave it on the lowest blower setting most of the time. Only on hundred degree plus days do we ever turn it up a little. And even then it will get too cold and we'll have to back it off. When I was installing the unit, it was a very tight fit. However, it was solid and well-built. I've been using an installing Window AC,S for more than 40 years. This is a heavy one. So you should secure it with extra bracing. I am experienced in installing these alone. I would recommend getting someone to help you if you're not experienced in picking these up with straps. You could severely injure your back. We've only had it for a few months so I may do another review in a few years. maybe... ... show more

This unit is being used by us with an external Coolbot controller to refrigerate a walk in cooler for food storage at a place I volunteer at. I'm the maintenance person so the sale ran through me and I installed it. This is a non-standard use that probably voids the warranty. It's a way for smaller organizations like the one I'm in to have a "commercial" walk in reefer without the expense of a commercial unit. We previously had a different AC unit installed but after several years of use it finally gave up. . The take away from the above is the unit is on 24/7 and it has been serving us well for months now. If I was just using it for home use the controls seem adequate. I have tested the output air with a thermometer at right around freezing. I forget what outside ambient temperature was but it was in the summer time and I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts and ambient temperature in the walk in was probably at least upper 60s because I had been working with the door open and unit off. So the unit provides a pretty good temperature drop. I'd actually like to have one of these units in my house but I don't have a 220V outlet to plug it in so for now it's my 12K 110 volt unit. ... show more

    • Warranty is Useless. No More LG for Me!

Where to start. This air conditioner was broken right out of the box. When my electrician plugged it in, it had an incredibly loud noise, as if the blade was hitting something. It honestly sounded like a propeller coming off an airplane. His assessment was that it was probably damaged in the warehouse or shipment. He had seen this before, it wasn't terribly uncommon but there was nothing he could do to fix it. Ok, so these things happen. I get it. Unfortunately for scheduling reasons, I was not able to have the new electric outlet for this A/C installed before the return window closed, but due to the expense of the item and the level of defect, I contacted Amazon. They were very understanding but felt this was a warranty issue with LG, due to it being outside the return window. That is fine, they connected me to LG customer service, Then the NIGHTMARE began. I'll make this as short as possible, for nearly a month, I was told repeatedly they were having some schedule a technician to come out and repair the air conditioner. I know enough to know that by the time you get a repairman out here, replace parts, and add the labor, it would not be cost effective to do this. I do however know this is their policy, so fine. Fine except that I was never once, not ever contacted by a repair service or LG to update me on what was going on. I had to call them back myself, not 2 not 3 not 4 but 5 times. Every time I was told whatever it was they were doing required me to wait another 3 to 5 business days. This of course always included a weekend so it was always a week. If I called back on the 5th business day in the afternoon, I was told I had to give them until the close of business on the 5th day. To call back the next day, which was actually the 6th. This happened 3 times. You see where this is going. Every time I called I was told "the request was rejected by the service center so we are escalating it". Then I would remind them that's what they told me last time. Then 20 minutes later, they would agree, but I still had to wait another 3 to 5 working days. Finally after a month, I was told to send in proof of purchase and they would decide what if anything could be done. This is a brand new, nearly $700.00 air conditioner! It has NEVER worked. Not even for 5 minutes. This is the best they can do for customer service and honoring their warranties? If this was an isolated incident I might be less angry, but I experienced a similar situation 7 years ago when my 2 year old LG front load washer needed a warranty repair. I finally did the repair myself, as I couldn't be without a washer for over a month while they decided what if anything they would do. I of course had to pay for the part out of pocket. I have many LG appliances and was at one time a brand loyalist. No more. My second interaction with their customer service has solidified my position. I just recently replaced that now 11 year old LG washer, with a MAYTAG! ... show more

I bought the biggest AC unit that would fit in my NYC apt window. You need a bracket/support fixture. The thing makes a lot of noise (rumble) so it's not a quiet machine. There are a substantial amount of parts requiring assembly before the unit is put in place. It is heavy: three people was perfect. Two people were inside lifting the AC unit and slding it through the window. The third person was outside on the terrace guiding the unit. We were done with that part in less than three minutes. HOWEVER - I should have read the manual first. The AC unit is shipped in a sleeve that needs mounting FIRST. This is what comes from not reading the manual BEFORE installing the AC unit. I got this unit for my 600sqf sheed/work shop in the back of the house. The Shed/work shop is NOT Insulated. I live in Texas. This past summer it has been over 100° every day. I started off by trying out one of the portable AC Units it's was 1,400 BTU. Which should have been enough for this size space if it was insulated. I left the portable unit running for 3 days straight, it moderately helped cool but was still sweating my butt off. Upgraded to this unit at 2,450 BTU. LOVE IT! I turn it on and I swear in 5-10 minutes the shed/work shop is cooled down. I have only had the unit for 3 weeks now so it is still early, but I love it so far.
