I’ve been literally waiting for a fan like this for 20 years. When I was in college, I owned a Holmes HAWF3030, which was similar to this model. This fan serves it’s purpose. It’s mad quiet and I like that it is electrically reversible unlike the Holmes model from back in the day that has the lever on the side of it. Just know that THIS IS A FAN. There’s no refrigerant or anything remotely close inside of it that’s going to have your room bone-chilling cold in 90 degree hazy, hot and humid weather. You will love this fan when it’s in use on those nice summer nights when it’s between 65 and 72 degrees with low humidity I also like this fan model because you don’t have to worry about people looking through your windows while it’s in operation. It is also lightweight. I have two minor things I’m not a “fan” about with this model. The first one are the foam pieces that you place on the side of it. Although the fan fits snugged in my window, I hope I don’t lose those pieces when the fan is put away for the fall/winter months. The second issue is there’s no remote. I know Vornado manufactured this fan and they have a model under their name that comes with the remote and an extra speed. However, it costs a little more money. In the end, I am satisfied. I hope Sharper Image/Vornado keeps this fan around and does not discontinue it. I already purchased 2 and I plan to buy 2 more. I purchased two black ones because I was afraid the white would turn yellow from the sun over time. ****NOTE*** You cannot use this fan vertically. Don’t even try to use it vertically. The foam is not strong enough to keep it in place if you try to use it vertically. Again, YOU CANNOT USE IT VERTICALLY!!!! ... show more

    • Ordered new, received previously opened, obviously handled, poorly packaged unit.

Wanted to incorporate a window fan into an upstairs bedroom for a new roommate. The item I received was delivered inside a larger Amazon box, and the original Sharper Image box had been previously opened and had the original sealing tape torn open and hanging, the box flaps were refolded crisscross style. Upon carefully opening the box, I first noticed the unit was sticking out of the box some and it was missing the protective molded cardboard end cap from the open end. The unit was secured in its plastic bag, but the bag had been re-tied like you would a garbage bag. I removed the bag, and immediately saw that the unit had oily fingerprints visible all over the black casing and the foam pieces along the top and bottom were dusty. The unit's left end piece (with the orange grip insert) had popped partially loose along the top of the unit, but with some careful pressure I was able to snap it back into place. The other end piece appeared properly attached. Unfortunately, due to my roommate moving in this evening, I don't have time to return it. So, I am stuck. I chose to thoroughly clean it, after which I plugged it in, and even though I am highly disappointed in receiving an open box unit, or a possibly previously used/returned unit, I will have to accept it due to my immediate need of it. This fan is nothing special. It doesn't fit older windows well at all and the padding system is a joke. The cord comes out of the unit in the worst place- the middle of the bottom where it is supposed to fit tightly to the window sill. You have to bend the cord around the side to fit the unit in and hope the dumb cushion things aren't in the way. It is quiet, but its not worth the price. ... show more

Who remembers the brand and model of the fan they owned in college? NoName. That’s who. And, they write an excellent review. This is an excellent fan by the way. Although, I just received it. That could change I suppose. I’ll let you know. It’s quiet and definitely does not sound like tractor. If you invent a tractor that can operate at all times at or below the maximum decibel level of this fan, you won’t be reading this review. You are on your personal island opening letter after letter from the thankful mother’s of sleeping babies. You’re happy. I’m an architect and painfully aware of how many different ways there are to build a window. Designing a fan to fit perfectly in all of them is an impossibility. I’m my windows this fan cannot be installed with the screen in place. And, even after the screen is removed, it doesn’t seat very well (and neither do the foam blocks). However, it looks nice, operates well and is quiet. A good product in my opinion. ... show more

I would not order this again. Oh. It’s a fine fan just not very powerful. It barely would blow a feather. Regrets for sure! We live in Southern California where the evenings are cool and it did not cool our bedroom at all, disappointed!

    • It is incredibly effective, quiet and operates smoothly.

High quality and very easy to install. We placed it in the kitchen window to extract the heat produced by the oven and the occasional smell that lingers after cooking fish. It doesn’t take long to accomplish either one of those tasks. We do leave it on (24/7) on the “low” setting to maintain the flow of air going and, thus, avoiding having to start that process if we repeatedly turned it on and off. ... show more

Cons: 1)The fan is not as powerful as I hoped it would be. Reminds me of a cheap bathroom exhaust fan 2) the rubber foam you put on the sides to close up any gaps, well that foam was a poor design. It dosent seal my opening enough to keep bugs out. 3) there is no foam to cover the gaps on top of the fan , see picture.... Pros: 1) it's water repellant or proof, so at least I can keep it on If it's raining. 2) it's quiet, probably cause it's not that powerful Overall, for the $100 I paid,, I'm Not pleased .. quiet upset by it.. and I cant return it anymore ... show more
