Great little vacuum

Great light to medium weight Vacuum for the price. It’s not “lightweight” per se but it’s also definitely not heavy. I live in a half carpeted apartment, probably around 300 square feet of carpet surface and my carpet type is short and over 5 years old. For my use case, this vacuum has been doing an awesome job for over 2 years now. The suction is great. It is a little awkward to get used to its maneuverability but once you get the hang of it, you’ll realize you can twist and turn into every little corner. Picks up cat fur really well, in addition to cat litter (they track it past the wood floors sometimes). The removable handle is a little awkward but does the job. Overall really nice to have around without spending $400+ on a vacuum.

This thing sucks!

I’d been making do with a cheap $50 vacuum for a couple years now. But I went from just a small dog, to a small dog, and two very fluffy cats. On top of that I have two children and a husband. We moved to a bigger place with a lot more ground to cover. I was tired of our cheap vacuum getting clogged up with hair and rotor not working right. I took the plunge on this one because it was on sale. My long hair does still get wrapped around the rotor but not too bad and super manageable. I vacuumed my living room and couldn’t BELIEVE how much it picked up. I was both impressed and disgusted. It is a little on the heavy side but hey- a clean house and a work out at the same time? Idk silver linings or whatever. Buy it. It’s fantastic!

Great Vacuum, Happy With Purchase

After about a year of putting up with my old, dying vacuum, I finally decided to bite the bullet and get a new one. Did some research online and asked around to see what the people I know/trusted used/liked/didn't like - specifically looking for a vacuum which was effective on both carpet and hard flooring and was good for use with pets - and landed on the Shark Navigator. While the swivel was definitely something I had to get used to (never having had one like this before) and it is a bit heavy - though I am petite, so I wasn't exactly surprised, I think most vacuums would be for me - this vacuum has proven to be a huge improvement from my previous one. While it's just me and my cat in my apartment, we both shed like crazy and she loves to absolutely obliterate her cardboard scratchers, getting little bits of cardboard everywhere. Plus, while I've been able to control it to a degree, there's no getting around at least some litter tracking throughout my apartment. I often struggled with vacuuming everything up before, this vacuum picks everything up without issue on the first pass. I also used the upholstery attachment for the first time on my couch, and was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked! The part I'm happiest about is how well it picks up litter. I've been able to minimize most of my cat's litter tracking with a litter mat, but it's inevitable some will end up outside the box. I had a lot of issues with my previous vacuum picking up all the litter effectively, but upgrading has definitely made this issue disappear. Having a switch for going from carpet to hard flooring, I also don't have to worry about litter flying everywhere when vacuuming around her box, which is great. The "self-cleaning" brushroll seemed gimmicky to me to begin with so I didn't expect much - unsurprisingly, hair was wrapped around the brushroll after the first use. I guess there may be less than a standard brushroll, but it wasn't a huge selling point to me anyway. As someone who just has a lot of long hair, it's to be expected. The capacity seems fine to me, though emptying isn't exactly "hands-free" - though, like with the previous note, it could just be because of all the hair that's picked up. It doesn't make it particularly difficult to empty, but I have had to pull out the debris when emptying the vacuum. I'm not really all that bothered by it, I just wash my hands after emptying, but I get it could skeeve out some. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase - way more pros than cons and it's exactly what I needed. I did buy this vacuum on sale, and I don't really know if I'd purchase it at full price - but I think that's more because of where I'm at financially than anything to do with the vacuum itself.

Wonderful, Powerful Upright, Corded Vacuum

I was knocked out by how well this vac works. The best suction I've ever experienced. Bought because a different Lift Away model was recommended by the NYT Wirecutter, and it was the fall sale. But to my own surprise, decided to return. It's actually overpowered for my small space. I'm fit, but my back felt using it the next day, and it was tough to manuver with one arm. I chose the more nimble Shark PowerDetect corded stick vac instead, as it's a better match for my needs. I struggled with the decision, though, because the Lift Away is so good! It would be better in a house with more open space and with shedding pets. It's a tank!

WOW....<3 <3 <3 Click, click, click...its assembled and ready to use. Light weight, quiet, long cord reaches to other rooms. Pet hair doesn't clog and picks it all up. The accessory that's a mini vacuum has 2 thin layers on each side (not brushes) so it definitely has a better suction for cleaning chairs, couches and gets all the hair off items. I like the power switch push options for hard floors to carpet. I also like the latches to unlatch the trash and a push of a button to empty, but the latches keep it secured. Love the roller. A strip of thin bristles but its mainly rubber so hair don't get tangled and makes for picking up hair and debris easier. Fits in small spaces. The accessories are so simple to use and stay in place. Best money ever spent and love the color and durability. Yah it may have been almost 200.00 but I won't have to by another for 10 plus years. My other shark lasted 9 years but the push in power button on it kept stopping, getting stuck until it just wouldn't start again. We just love this vacuum so much and the price, the convenience of how easy it is to assemble and use.

Suction and function.

I just bought this Shark vacuum and I feel personally attacked by how filthy my house actually was. I vacuumed SUNDAY. As in two days ago. Like I do EVERY Sunday. Today I tested it “real quick” in four rooms and a hallway and had to empty it four times. Four. I live in a dog fur simulation apparently. Me Likey: 1. This thing goes FLAT like a professional yoga instructor and just slides under the bed like “don’t worry girl, I’ll drag your secrets out.” 2. You can manually crank the suction from “respectful breeze” to “this will remove a man’s soul through his nostrils.” 3. It’s so light I can vacuum the stairs without imagining my obituary saying I died doing what I loved most, violently cleaning carpeted steps. 4. Speaking of the death stairs, the stair attachment is heavenly. My stairs look like I just had the carpet replaced. I cranked the suction and it pulled the fibers back to 2018. 5. Quieter than my Dyson. Not silent but more like “baby is sleeping, do not wake her” instead of “launching the SpaceX Falcon.” 6. The roller is self cleaning. Yeah you read that right. It eats the hair instead of just rolling up on it like your mom's hair curlers. Thanks, I hate it section: 1. The canister is stuck in 1892. I have to manually lock it in with two latches like I’m sealing pirate gold. 2. If you accidentally overfill it, congrats on the dirt cloud of shame blasting you in the face. I had to wash my hands twice and spiritually cleanse myself in holy water. Final verdict: 9/10. This vacuum just exposed Dyson as a loud overpriced air freshener. I’m both humbled and disgusted. I thought I was clean. Turns out I just owned a Dyson.

Liked my old model better

This is long. I have a real love/hate relationship with this vacuum. I had a Shark for ten years and it was the best vacuum I ever had. Even got the dog and cat hair out of a black area rug which was a feat that no other vacuum could manage. When she finally gave up the ghost I naturally looked to another Shark. This model had the best reviews for people with pets. I was excited about the roller being self cleaning as I had to cut all the hair away from my previous one every third time I ran it. My new vacuum arrives. First thing I notice is the canister is not as easy to remove. Instead of just one button you now have to un hook two latches, one on each side. No big deal. Also the size of the canister is half that of my old one. As I mentioned, I have dogs, that shed, a lot. I now have to empty the canister after every room. Not a fan. And the power cord is much shorter. So much so that I can barely make it from one side of a larger room to the other. Not a fan. However since I have to empty the canister after every room I guess moving the plug is not a big deal. This next comment may surprise you. It has almost too much suction. You read that right, too much. I have medium pile carpet in most rooms, hardwood in the kitchen and bath and fairly deep pile area rugs in my high traffic areas. Trying to vacuum these is a nightmare. There is a “suction release” feature for these kinds of rugs but it hardly helps. I spend half my time turning it off and on because the roller stops and the only way to reset it is to release the handle and power off then on. Not like that on the old model. So needless to say it is a big job trying to get the house vacuumed. Each time I move from one rug type to the next I have to adjust the suction. Too much, roller stops, too little, doesn’t pick anything up. At the end of the day I guess you need to evaluate your floors before purchasing this vacuum. If you have very low pile carpet and hardwood floors I would recommend. If you have carpet with even a hint of pile, look elsewhere. It’s a workout and leaves me inclined to not vacuum as often because it’s such a chore. May look into getting my old model repaired. It was just the cord so probably worth checking out.

Great power

This Shark Vacuum is amazing when it comes to suction power. Thus the reason I kept it instead of returning it. For my preference, I have two complaints. 1) The cord is shorter than I like. 2) It needs a power train to help drive the vacuum over carpet. It's suction is so good - even when set on "Hard Floor" and the vent open all the way - it is difficult to push / pull on carpet with pile. It's even a workout on my no pile carpet. My former vacuum had a drive and I guess I'm spoiled to it. But it is hard on my back to vacuum with this vacuum cleaner. The lift-away canister is easy to use and does a great job. A brush attachment, which this one does not have, would be nice for cleaning blinds and such. The self cleaning roller does well with cleaning hair from the roller; however, it does get string wrapped around it. I give 4 stars instead of 5 since some improvement can be made. But overall this is a great vacuum.
