  • Outstanding Advancements In Handheld Fertilizer Spreaders
When I retired and downsized (home and yard) I got rid of my large drop spreader and purchased a small hand crank spreader. I use it 3 to 4 times a year to spread fertilizer (I realize it has other applications but this is what I am using it for) and other than that I do not give it much thought since other than then a wheeled spreader (which I do not have the room to store or need) that was my only other option. Or so I thought until I was searching Amazon for something and came across this Battery Powered Fertilizer Spreader. I read the product description and it looked like it had some huge advancements over the hand crank one I was using so I ordered knowing that it didn't live up to its hype I could return it to Amazon and go back to using my old one. When it arrived and I checked it out. I immediately feel in love with it. First out of the box it is intuitive to use but they provide you with a well written and illustrated instruction book. Although the instruction books looks thick in my images the English section is only 12 pages and contains a lot of "nice to know" information. Next it has a 1/3 larger hopper capacity than my old one which means less time spent reloading. It contains the same 1 to 8 settings to set to the fertilizer’s manufacturers' specifications for the fertilizer you are spreading. But it has several things my hand crank does not. One of these is the sowing angle (see images) which is a feature I did not know I was missing until I began using this one. The other of course is the motorized spreading feature which has speed settings of 1- 6 (see image) which means you control the power. Overall a great tool and hope it works for a long time (the one thing I cannot review here unless it breaks in the next year or so). ... show more

  • Easy carry and I was able to fertilize my lawn in the rain
I've been using a Scotts spreader that must have been designed for men with large hands. The wrist rest is useless for me, and it is painful spreading fertilizer because I'm holding it with the strength of my wrist only. Additionally, I live in a place where I cannot use the well water to water my lawn. I have to time fertilization right before it rains and use both hands. This spreader solved both problems, because of the location of the handle and because I don't have to use my left hand to crank it. Yesterday I was able to fertilize my lawn while it was raining while holding an umbrella. I'm in love! The hopper is larger than Scotts', so initially it's pretty heavy when full. But the fertilizer flowed out quickly and my job was soon done. This is a fantastic design and I'm happy to say goodbye to my Scotts. ... show more

  • Don't think the value is there.
The media could not be loaded. The functionality of this spreader was so-so at best, but it's definitely not made for any kind of inclement weather, which I find odd for an outdoor tool. There are dials to accommodate the size of seed or fertilizer in the hopper and a lever to adjust the width of the spread. The hopper works OK but I can't say it's any better than a hand-crank version. Also, this one gets jammed easily if your material is not perfectly dry and this is not water tolerant, so you cannot flush it out. The other issue I had was that there is no safety on the handle control and no actual on/off switch, so you can easily spew material in your face if you decide to look at the chute to see if anything is jammed. As it turned out, I got caught in a thunderstorm while testing this. I got under shelter pretty quickly, but not quickly enough. The hopper got jammed with wet fertilizer and it just stopped working. When I opened it up, I found water inside which I dried. The battery light turned yellow/red but after 15 minutes or so, it was green again. However, it still won't work. I don't think it's worth the price when a hand-crank spreader will do just as good a job, won't be so fragile in the elements and can be flushed out. I do not recommend this device. UPDATE: OK, I upgraded from a one to a three-star. After about nine hours, I tried the spreader again and it is working. I still don't feel it's worth more than three stars for the other reasons enunciated above, but it is better than a one or two. ... show more

  • Better Than Spreading by Hand
I used this to spread pest control granules in my front and back yard. The granules were about the consistency of beach sand, and this worked flawlessly at first. However, after about a half hour of use, I noticed that it was struggling. I'd have to tilt it back and forth to get it to work and it wouldn't disperse evenly. I later discovered that some of the granules had gotten caught in the little trap door mechanism and mucked up the works a bit. After I got it mostly cleaned out, it went back to working fine. Other than that minor hiccup, it seems to be a good product. It charges relatively quickly, and the battery was plenty to get the job done. I like how you can adjust the amount and the pattern of dispersal. I just used it on level 6 the whole time, but I'm sure I could've dialed it in a little better if I was more patient. All in all, it's far better than trying to spread seed, fertilizer, or anything else by hand over a large area. I'm sure there are nicer models available, but this seems like a good budget choice. ... show more

  • Great compact spreader
This is a great handheld spreader. I have a really small yard, so getting a bulky device isn't an option. This allows me to hold way more than needed to still cover both the front and back, which for me is about 1,000 sq ft, tops. I would expect that I could get half a bag or more of the Scotts program in here, so think this would hold around 2,500-3,000 sq ft of product without needing to refill it. Anything above that anyways would be a bit heavy to use. The spreader charged up easily and had plenty of power to push out the product, sending it all over as it should. It spreads evenly, and it was simple to adjust the flow rate. I recommend adjusting it either before adding the product or while it's in use, just to avoid trying to lower it onto product. Overall this is a great tool for my yard, and makes maintaining my small yard better with a product appropriately sized for the job. ... show more
