I give this 2 stars because it doesn't cause lower back pain, however, the position it makes me sit in all day, everyday has hosed my upper back. In order to type and see my computer screen, I need my chair at about center height. This makes sense because I am 5'8" and I have a 34" inseam so I am not short and my legs are very long. If I put the chair at the lowest level so I can put my back against the full back rest, I my arms are too low for the keyboard. If I put it at the mid position, my back doesn't even touch the backrest without serious effort and strain and there is absolutely no way to relax my upper back. You can't set the chair high enough to keep your arms in the "L" position and still touch the back of the chair. The left adjustment level does nothing, I don't even know why it's there. The sitting position recommended puts a LOT of pressure on my sciatic nerve and my bottom. Since the position of your arms while typing on a keyboard stress the upper back and the upper back has no support at all, it hurts really bad after only a few hours. The problem is, that I didn't realize it was the chair until the return time had passed. Not just that, how the heck would you return a chair anyway? He's right, you won't have lower back pain, but after a couple months, the rest of your body will ache as soon as you sit down. I've had the chair since May (it's now September so it's not like I didn't give this chair a chance) and I kept hoping it was just a muscular memory issue and that my body would get used to it, but the issues just gets worse instead of better. You will spend over $200, and in a few months you will find out you can't stand it anymore. Long after you lose the option to return it. ... show more

    • Amazing chair for someone with lower back problems and recent back fusion !
For someone who has had a bad lower back, and very recently had a back fusion, this chair is amazing!! After researching and reading reviews, I decided to go for this Serta Back in Motion chair, rather than a more costly chair... and am so glad with this decision!! Thankfully, my mechanically-inclined cousin and her daughter visited and assembled it for me, although the directions did seem pretty straight forward. She sat in it, and didn't care for the extra padded lumbar support (which is removable)... However, I absolutely love it. I can finally sit back in my chair while working, now an then, and have my lower back fully supported. Plus, and perhaps more importantly, since I tend to sit forward while on the computer working, the way the seat moves does help my back... When I got up from my old office chair, I was very stiff, and walking as such. Now, I get up and feel fine... soooooo much better!! Thank you, Serta for making this fantastic, and affordable chair! ... show more

I've had it about a month. If you're looking for a non-fake-leather chair (that's doomed to peel) then you know that your fabric options are limited these days. Crappy bonded leather has taken over the market. This grey fabric chair is nice in that I don't have to worry about it peeling. But you'll either love this chair or despise it. It does sit a bit high. But what you'll either love or hate is the fact that the mid back part of the chair is connected to the bottom cushion, that portion of the back moves with your butt. Sometimes it's great, sometime it annoys the crap out of me. Overall, I like it. But I could see how some people would hate it. It's not a normal chair. The mid back part is designed to move forward or back with you. It's also worth noting that this chair was packaged like crap. Mine was literally just thrown in the box and looked like they tried to save money by cutting out Styrofoam packing material. Even though the box got here falling apart the chair went together fine and wasn't damaged as far as I can tell. ... show more

I have back problems (bad spinal curve), so thought this chair would be a good fit. But, after a week I noticed that I'm always in a hunched over position. The back support cushion pushes me too far forward and doesn't allow my upper back to rest against the chair comfortably. I'm constantly pushing my shoulders back, but when I do the whole bottom wants to tilt. Because of this I tend to scoot forward toward the end of the seat, which defeats the purpose of the back support. This chair is also very small! From the pics it looks like a high back executive chair, but it's not. It's more like a cushioned task chair. Also, the seat on mine has already gone flat. It actually hurts after a bit, like I'm sitting on wood. I'm sending this back. Aside from the smaller size (and I'm 5'11), it's just very uncomfortable. ... show more

I had one of these models before. I loved it. It has great lumbar support and the chair holds up to all day use. This newer model wobbles when I sit in it. There is excessive play in the pivot pin that connects seat hinge to the gas strut. It's not something I can tighten or shim because it is riveted in. ... show more
