    • Beautiful classic wall clock, but lacks easily accessible controls.
This Seiko wall clock is in a well-built, classic broken pediment case with brass highlights , easy to read dial, and attractive banjo-style pendulum. It makes an attractive addition to living room decor. The case color is reddish-brown (the one we got looks slightly darker than the one in the photo here) and is nicely finished. Delivery through Amazon was prompt, and the clock arrived in good condition. The problem with this clock, though, is that all the controls are on the back of the case and can only be accessed by taking the clock off the wall. If you need to reset the time, it can only be done by turning a small, hard to adjust dial on the back. The clock is not all that heavy, weighing about 15 pounds, but it can be awkward getting it down from the wall and adjusting the time, which has to be done at least twice a year. The glass front cover doesn't open, unlike most wall clocks. This clock has a choice of Westminster or Whittington chimes, changeable by a switch on the back. There's also a switch that silences the chimes between 11:00 PM and 5:45 AM, according to the information that came with the clock. The silent period is not adjustable to other time periods. If you want to sleep later, you're out of luck. There's also a volume control for the chimes which, like the time adjuster, is a small, hard to turn dial with no scale marks to indicate volume level. As a result, adjusting the volume is a trial and error procedure. We wanted to adjust the volume to a low level, but our initial attempts resulted in either too loud or silent. We gave up on the chimes and are using the clock in silent mode for now, though we may try again another time. The clock operates with a C-battery, which is included. We've had the clock only a few weeks, so I have no idea of how long the battery will last before needing replacement. So far, the clock has kept very accurate time, as one would expect from a Seiko timepiece. In summary, the clock is accurate and the case is classically handsome, but adjusting time and especially volume level of the chimes is not easy. But perhaps that's not a problem once one gets the right volume adjustment and doesn't mind taking the clock off the wall to change from standard to daylight time and vice versa, or to change the battery. ... show more

    • Had to corect out of sink problem
Love the clock but when I was setting it up some how it went out of sink I flowed the instructions to the T but after I hung it on my wall it only rang part of the chime and did not strike the correct time , so I took it back off the wall opened the back up again , removed the batt. reset the correct time then put the batt. back in and checked it for the right amount of chimes tried 2 o-clock and so forth now every thing was working correctly hung it back up on the wall , after I set the correct time and sat there and made sure it chimed on the 15 min mark , the half hour mark , the forty five min. mark and the hour mark WOW ! Now the clock is working perfectly !! Now how this thing got out of sink is be on me but now I love this clock keeps perfect time and I don't know how they got those chimes to sound so real !! They sound just like BIG-BEN a nice deep tone like the old clocks back in the day this thing sounds like it has tuned brass bars inside ! I hope it last for many years to come it's also very beautiful it looks so great on my living room wall ! ... show more

    • Nice But Not Wonderful
The clock arrived damaged. It had been "crushed" a bit on the back/side casing. Too much of a hassle to send it back and that part is against the wall so it's only noticeable from the one side. The sides are not solid oak - needless to say. Should have been packaged better.

I give this a 4 star rating because there is a little decorative piece that sits in the middle of the top part of the clock which was broken. A little disappointing considering what I paid for the clock. I didn't feel it was worth the hassle of returning it and it does stay on the clock it just comes out real easily. Other than that its been a great clock. One of the things I really like about it is that it has a volume control for the chimes and a "night" mode where it won't chime at all from 12AM - 6AM a great feature if you are a light sleeper. ... show more
