  • Attractive wall clock
Style: Clock
Nice looking clock that I bought to replace one I had for almost 40 years. This one is electronic. The old one was wind up, which are difficult to get and expensive to get now. Almost completely silent except for the chimes. There are two choices for the chimes. Keeps excellent time so far.

  • Excellent Clock and a Great Value
Style: Clock
The clock arrived last week and we are extremely pleased. Looks nice, built from solid wood, nothing "cheap" about it. No assembly required. Just take it out of the box, hook on the pendulum, and hang it up. BATTERY - One "C" battery drives everything -- clock movement, chime, and pendulum. Supposed to last up to a year. April 2017 Update -- The "C" Battery that came with the clock is STILL RUNNING after 15 months. The CHIME is the main battery drain, not the clock or the flimsy dummy pendulum. My Chime LOUDNESS is set Mid-Way - a louder Chime uses the battery up faster. PENDULUM - Cosmetic only. Swings back and forth (battery-driven) for appearance, but is unrelated to the clock's timekeeping. CHIIME - Every quarter-hour. Adjusts with a volume control, and quieter probably results in a longer battery life. Chime sounds very nice but is not fantastically "rich", which is to be expected for a small clock such as this. I also have a Grandfather Clock with a REAL chime, which is tough to reproduce electronically. Giving a 10 to the Grandfather clock, I'd rate the Seiko chime as a 7. ACCESS - Nothing in front opens - not the glass over the clock face nor the transparent panel down over the pendulum area. All controls are on the back - chime selection, chime loudness, and clock time setting. The pendulum gradually starts by itself. INSTALLATION - The clock comes with a small metal eye loop at the top rear, which I've attached to a sturdy picture hanger to support the clock - nothing else. [ With the clock in place, the eye loop is not visible.] They send you a screw for supplementary attachment somewhere below, but I haven't used it. This way, I can easily lift the clock off-and-on to make adjustments in the back. By being supported only at the top, you can swing the bottom back-and forth to help start the pendulum and get the clock exactly vertical so the pendulum swing is symmetrical (right-to-left).. ... show more

  • Mrs. Royalcrowncola Loves Her New Schoolhouse Clock
Style: Clock
Mrs. Royalcrowncola has a love for the old schoolhouse pendulum clocks. Unfortunately, our wind-up clock went the way of the wild goose long ago and was replaced by a battery substitute. That one gave up the ghost and necessitated the search for a nicer, better, replacement. Since Amazon is our go-to place for shopping, we searched and found this Seiko clock. Since I have a "no-fako Seiko" watch, I felt this would be a great choice. Fresh outta the box it is ready to go...just add the required "C" battery. It took me all of 5 minutes from unpacking to hanging on the wall. The wood case is nice--in a kind of mass produced wood clock kind of way. None of the front panels actually open; everything is accessed from the rear. The clock movement, controls, and battery doo-dahs on the back are quality items. The clock chimes are electronic--not percussion--and are spot on for sound. The first time I heard it chime I was back in the 1940's at my grandmother's house in Burbank, CA. As the mists of time swirled around me and my eyes got that dreamy faraway look...Mrs. Royalcrowncola quickly shook me back to reality. She knows well the dangers of my hair-trigger reminiscence mechanism and feared we were in for another trip to Gammy's house, the Helms Bakery man, and Lockheed Constellations taking off from the Lockheed factory nearby. We had to agree, chimes on low volume and no chimes at night...which by the way...is easy to accomplish with the clock settings. Yep! This clock is gonna be a winner! ... show more

  • Made Like Dad's (not quite)
Style: Clock
This is a copy-cat clock, sort of a junior version of a schoolroom clock. The color is like good oak, real wood. The dial is big and clear. The packaging and instructions are very user-friendly and setting it up does not require any technical ability. It weighs only 5 1/2 lbs., so you don't have to worry about finding a wall stud and your drill to hang it. An ordinary hammer and nail will do the job. The pendulum does nothing except pretend to be a pendulum, no ticktocks, but goes back and forth to give the illusion of what used to be. The sound has a somewhat false-sounding amplification, but it's pretty good for a fake. You can change the volume, make it completely silent, or make it silent only during the night; and you get a choice of two different chiming patterns. There is no way of adjusting either the time or the sound when the clock is on the wall, meaning that if you need to change the one C battery that powers it, adjust the time for Daylight Saving Time or Standard, or change the volume or chime choice, you must take it off the wall, not so terrible since it's light, but inconvenient. That's why I'm only giving it four stars. It's a good product for the price. ... show more

  • A great clock!
Style: Clock
I love this clock! It is so pretty and I love the real wood. The chimes are pretty and you can change the volume to your liking. You can also turn off the chimes at night. The Roman numerals give it class too. So far it has been great!
