  • Fantastic experience! From just being a tech toy to a time saver
Style: Garage Set
This is not my first robotic mower, and going this route was really a geeky thing to do, but now has realized its full potential as a time saver. Yes, I still need to trim the edges (I really didn't do that after using a push mower to get as close to the edge as possible I didn't feel like pulling out the string trimmer every time). Now I can use the trimmer while the X450 is mowing the yard. I do suggest first time users of any robotic mower to do their research. Especially with regard to mowers like this one that don't use wires any longer to know where they are and how to get back home. RTK uses satellites and if you live in an area like I do with old growth, large tree canopies, you are going to struggle. Enter network RTK, or NRTK. This uses the internet and external base stations that coordinate location services with the mower. Instead of a single antenna on your roof, it uses many different sources available through a [paid] service (free for first 2 years on the X450) and I think $30 a year thereafter. The navigation is a bit finicky, but the mower is so much more forgiving after you map your property. Segway has definitely done their job at application performance as well. Yes, I wish I had more control over the scheduling that what is currently provided, but I hope that will come in time based on the response I've seen from them so far. This mower looks great. It literally has stopped traffic several times since I deployed it. The turn radius is phenomenal. I don't have large hills as this is rated for, but I have a very rough terrain--very bumpy! And the ditch is tight, with a manhole cover protruding up creating a deep crevice...the Navimow simply navigates around it and in the short corner is able to get up and out easily. There were a few objects I didn't take the time to "block" from being mowed, and some objects that I didn't expect to be in the yard (wildlife and the neighbor's cat one time). The mower's cameras see these things and you can watch it as it slows down and evaluates the situation. It slowly moves around the object. There were a few missed spots (some because of the unexpected interference), and the logic on when it decides to mow what sections/parts of the yard makes an self-diagnosed OCD person like myself go crazy, but it has always gone back and pick up what it missed so far. The mower performs so much better than the first attempt I had. It is fast on its standard speed setting, and quiet. Again, new robotic mower owners need to research. Robotic mowers with razor blades are micro-cutting your lawn, not bush hogs. In the summer I would typically mow once a week and at that would chop off 1-2 inches of grass, and then have to bag it if I didn't want the thatch to accumulate and smother the grass. This model cuts up to 4 inches, but depending on your grass type (I have mostly weeds and three different varieties of bluegrass, fescue, and something else). In spite of that, the small, frequent (every 3 days) cuts in just over two weeks my yard looks great (from far away)...yeah you get close you see the weeds :( I am now planning a different grass implementation this fall and will take the time to manage it better. One thing on support: with your research, research support options and response times. My first mower's support took weeks to get a response. I received a response 24 hours after my first request and the follow up did not appear to be AI, or if it was, it was a damned good one as they addressed a concern/question I had along with detailed options and opportunities. The follow up was just as responsive. ... show more

  • Fantastic mower, a genuine asset
Style: Garage Set
This little mower that I've had for a month and a half now surprised me in the best possible way. Our yard is full of mounds, steep grades, tricky obstacles and narrow passages, all difficulties I honestly wasn't expecting the X4 to be able to negotiate. For this reason I hesitated to commit to a purchase of this magnitude, but my wife's continued encouragement gave me the final nudge. Well, I was proven wrong. The X4 is an astoundingly capable unit with a similarly well thought out software and setup procedure (the satellite tracker and lock analyzer is an absolute cherry on top). Everything the unit does makes sense, it's sturdy and consistent, manages its battery well and, last but most importantly, mows reliably and never gets stuck in my yard, thanks to its traction control and independent front/rear suspension and steering. Although it's much slower and more careful than I am (oops), it is truly self-sufficient, I didn't have to free or untangle or even touch it a single time, it managed obstacles and solved all difficulties my terrain threw at it, delivering a very good mowing job even the first time, and it's gotten slightly quicker since then, reliably working unsupervised. Since the first time it also seems to have learned to be more "daring" with weeds that quickly grow long stems, it no longer considers them an obstacle but mows through them now, as it should. There are some physical limitations in what the mower can tackle, it obviously won't mow grass that is several feet tall or power through thick branches and shrubs, which is expected---it's like an elecric razor that one would use daily or every other day versus a larger manual one for trimming or cutting off a long beard. The software is solid and intuitive, with an amazingly impressive array of features and great stability, handling frequent disconnections caused by large distances gracefully. In this day and age of junk software, the Navimow app is an outstanding gem (see screenshots for an example of the level of detail in configuring the mower), I hope Segway never degrades it. Firmware updates are automatic and mostly seamless; sometimes you do have to power cycle the system after updates. The local antenna is working very reliably despite visibility challenges, which is also welcome. Since the mower uses a number of very small rotating blades, it is very quiet even in normal mode (didn't measure, but it feels around 60-65 dB, if that), and it has quieter modes if someone is willing to trade some speed for even less noise. As to price, this unit is definitely not cheap but still costs less than a quality ride-on and does 99% of the job with no supervision at all, it can mow day and night using very little power, so I think it's worth the investment. Overall, this is a fantastic mower and, despite my initial worries, it turned out to be a genuine asset. Congratulations to the product and development teams, keep up the great work. And no, I didn't get the mower for free, nor was I paid for this review, I posted it because of how great it feels to own such a well executed product in 2026. ... show more

  • No problems yet and it does a good job
Style: Garage Set
I thought I'd have trouble with the rough spots in our yard, but it hasn't had any trouble. Especially nice, it goes under the slats in our fence so really reduces the amount of trimming we have to do.

  • BEST BUY EVER!
Style: Garage Set
We bought this mower to mow a hill behind our house due to the dangerous steep grade. We are so impressed that we are using it to all of our mowing. One of the best buys we've ever made! Very impressed!!

  • Maintains a close cut lawn
Style: Garage Set
I love this mower...but I don't rate anything a five. This is my second X450. Each does 1.5 acres on my 3 acre property. Robot mowers do not mow like zero turns but being able to mow daily while I do other things is fantastic. My lawns always look well kept.
