  • Some shortcomings... AND cannot download SD card files!
I have had this camera just a few days and have been experimenting with it inside the house since the weather is not conducive to installing it outside right now. I bought a 128GB microSD for local storage and do not plan to get a cloud storage subscription. The camera itself seems to work fine with video quality I am happy with. The motion detection seems to work well and has a customizable detection zone + sensitivity settings. Of course, I have not tried outside yet to see how accurate those are. The first problem I encountered was there are no instructions for installing the SD card. For example, what orientation? There is a tiny icon near the slot that is unreadable for me. I looked into the slot to see which side the contacts appeared to be on. My real problem was that I expected a push-push latching card connector but not so. As a result, I pressed the card fully down into the slot where I expected it to latch but that just meant it was then well below the top edge of the slot with the result that it will be very difficult to get it out if I have to replace it. There is almost no clearance to grip it. There should be instructions to not insert any farther than flush with the top of the slot. There IS a slight fingernail indent there to catch the edge of an SD card if it is no further in. I set it up using my iPhone. The setup instructions are misleading in that you have to figure out on your own that you have to go logon to the device's wifi SSID in the middle of setting it up and come back to continue. To make matters worse, they do not tell you up front what its wifi password is. I eventually found information in its short troubleshooting section that said the password was listed on the device's label as its "Safety Code". That label is not actually on what I consider the camera/device. I eventually figured out it was a tag on the device's USB power cord near the connector. I wish the USB cable could be detached from the camera to make it easier to run through a wall. The app seems to work OK but is entirely UFO (U Figure it Out) like so many apps these days. They think user information for it is all online but there isn't a shred of how-to-use information. It appears to be all marketing. Motion detection alerts seem to work well. I DO like that motion event videos seem to contain a few seconds of video preceding the motion that caused the alert and recording. Without a cloud subscription, the camera does have to be online to view recorded videos. The app icons for functions are a bit confusing to me. Some indicate what should happen when tapped and others indicate the current state. For example, there is a standard pause icon that toggles to a play icon and vice-versa. The icon next to it is for selecting 1-camera view or 4-camera view. But it looks like 1 window when in 1-window mode and 4 windows when in 4-window mode instead of looking like what you would get if you tapped it. Similarly for the next icon for Standard or High Definition video. It says which mode it is in instead which mode you would get if you tapped it. Then there is camera speaker icon that always has an x beside it like it is off. BUT, they gray it out when the speaker is on meaning it is NOT off. Weird. Anyway, it does seem to have fairly good features once you figure out what they are trying to do. I would rather it be a lot more intuitive and good usage reference information. Their customer service does respond to emails by which I learned they for certain they have not created any app usage information. In fact, the app's apparent functions are not completely implemented and I do not yet know if they intend to. UPDATE: I am finding that customer support responses are pretty much useless. They do not seem to want to engage in real help and do not show any interest in fixing or improving things. I sometimes have my doubts they even understand my questions. For example, I just discovered there is no way to download videos from its SD card. There is an icon like an envelope that I think is probably eventually to email the selected videos but it seems to do nothing. It is on the same screen as the trash icon for deleting the selected videos and that works. Customer support says "SD card recording does not support direct download for the time being, you need to remove the card and download it through a computer". Well. that is not so great for a camera that is mounted up high and has to be dismounted to get to the SD card which, as noted above, I am not sure I can ever remove. I will update if anything significant changes. 4/20/2021 UPDATE I have purchased another of these and set it up. It seems to be working fine indoors. I had to do manual setup because the app could not read the QR code on product label on the power cord and even then I could not read the SN on the product label either so I had to get it off the product box. I installed a formatted 128GB microSD card before first power up. Immediately after getting it setup, it displayed PLAY ERROR multiple times so I thought I would try having the camera format the SD card itself in case it was finicky about that. The button in the app for do that is labeled "Formatting Storage" as though it was already doing it. I think it should say "Format Storage" but I tried it and confirmed the desire to lose everything on the card. It then said formatting was in progress. But that never went away even after 20+ minutes so I killed the app and pulled the camera's power plug and plugged it back in. Both seemed to start back up with everything working. I reported this to customer support who basically ignored everything I reported except to say I should try formatting the SD card in my PC and re-install it. Lotta help those folks are. The formatting process ... show more

  • Worth it in a pinch
Okay so, first off I bought this to watch over my back alley after someone shattered my bedroom window a couple weeks ago. I didn't want to spend too much since money is tight right now, so considering that, this little guy isn't too shabby. All things considering, lemme break down the pros and cons. Also, setting up the camera to the app is easy, SO LONG AS YOU DO IT WHERE YOUR WIFI IS STRONGEST. I first tried to set it up in my kitchen where it wasn't the strongest, but then went to where it is the strongest at in my game room and it instantly linked. If it doesn't link the first try, try other areas around your home. Pros: affordable, app is easy to use, night vision is impressive as is the video and audio quality, it is waterproof, you get notifications about movement when you're away from home, you can load up to 4 cameras to the app, can use a micro SD card for extra storage. Cons: A.I. doesn't work, exactly, when it detects just "humans." This camera not only picks up humans, it picks up rain, dust, bugs, trash blowing in the wind, windchimes, leaves, the neighborhood cats, hungry raccoons and lone coyotes. If you have your app settings on to alert you about a "human detected," it could literally be anything and will chime at least 20 times a day and night, if not more. BONUS on that note though, within the CAMERA settings in the app, you can change the sensitivity settings. THIS APP DRAINS MY PHONE BATTERY! Also, it's a bit laggy at times, but this also could be my internet's fault, since mine is placed in a not so great location wifi wise, but I had to make due. It is not wireless, and does need to be plugged into an outlet. Over all, I would buy this again in a pinch if need be. It is worth the money, but there are good and bad traits about it, as does any product. ... show more

  • IMOU Cell
Color: 2MP Cell Pro
I've worked with a variety of lower cost camera systems. Overall I am impressed with this system for the price. The picture quality is very good. I found the setup and mounting rather easy. I like that the base unit allows for a USB drive for storage, either a thumb drive or a standard USB drive. The range was pretty good. I set it up on a third floor rear window and was able to install a camera in the front under a metal awning. The documentation could be better. I'm still not 100% clear on what some of the settings do. I set it up on both my Windows computer and my Android phone. Understanding how to work the software takes some time. Of course they try to encourage to subscribe to their web service which does have some interesting features but, I decided work without it. I purchased the base and 2 cameras on Amazon for $100. I was surprised to find that I could not purchase additional compatible cameras on Amazon. They are available from other servers but they cost over $100 each - lol. The motion detection works but seems to be a little wonky but I am still adjusting the settings. They have a feature that allows you to easily set the detection area but I find that it does still occasionally react to motion outside the set range. This is not a heavy duty outdoor camera. The image is not very good when exposed to hard rain but it hasn't damaged the camera. I set them under partial cover so this is not a major concern for me. You can always purchase a shroud for it. The base unit sets up a private wireless network so no need to boost your WI-FI and I believe there is less concern for hacking or interference. I had a near by light socket so I'm using a Wyse light socket USB device to supply power so I don't need to recharge the camera. The cameras are charged with a standard USB cable. ... show more
