it was hard to beat this 2TB hard drive for the price. it’s efficient, sleek, and relatively small, so it’s easy to use and store. it did take a couple of hours to fully back everything up, but that was expected with nearly 1TB worth of videos, pictures, etc. when loading videos, sometimes they do take a bit longer to buffer, but the videos aren’t damaged, so it’s worth the wait. ... show more

I was expecting, you know, a regular size external hard drive. But this one is about the size of two thumb drives side-by-side! It's so tiny and cute! On a serious note, it runs as expected. I was hoping to put decals on it as part of the gift but it was two small. I even measured with a Seagate drive we have. But I was slightly disappointed that it was so tiny. I was only able to fit two decals. One on each side. Honestly the size is probably better anyway. Takes up less space while in-use, and it makes it easier to store. $70 for 2 Tb of storage is great, speed okay. The included cable has specific HDD connector on one end, and wide (old USB) on the other. To connect to iPad, an USB-C dongle/ port/ hub/ adapter with connection for external power is required. I own a VAVA USB-C hub, which cost around $40. The Hub plugs into the iPad via USB-C; the external power connects to hub via USB-C; the external HDD connects to hub via USB-A, and also draws power. The second “trick” is to format the HDD using the “erase” feature in IOS 18. Choosing the preferred apple format “APFS”, changes from the default “FATS” which the iPad can read, but will be unable to write. After the Erase/ reformatting step; both read/write functions work without problem. The included instructions do not include the needed information about the need for a hub or reformatting. ... show more

Based on reviews and recommendations, I bought a Seagate portable drive two or three years ago. It's performed perfectly for twice-weekly back-ups. So, when it came time to replace and older (2011) portable drive, I chose Seagate again. To my surprise, the "for PC, Mac," etc. drives came up on my Mac's desktop as read-only. Which would make them pretty much useless. I tried Seagate's online support... only to be told I would have to pay to access support for the brand-new drives. Not great customer service. After some searching online, I found the drives come formatted for PC. They must be reformatted to be fully functional with a Mac. There's nothing in the listing on Amazon - or in the drives' included "quick-start guide" that mentions this. Once I'd reformatted them, the drives worked great. The data transferred over from the old drive with only one glitch. (Caused by the old, failing drive.) Seagate's drives get an A+... but, in this instance, their support rates a D at best. ... show more

The documentation isn't great but it only took an hour to figure out how to get it to work. Transferring 490 GB took many hours (USB is extremely slow) but both mirror and backup seem to work well. My biggest problem was setting up the disk's password. I set it up w/o proper documentation and, now that it's set up, I can't figure out how to turn it off. Should my computer fail that could leave me locked out of my backup, if I understand how this unit works. Again... sucky explanations. ... show more
