I followed the directions to a T. Lots of watering to keep it moist at all times and in 2 weeks this is what our yard looks like now. I had a very patchy backyard. It is shaded and one side had almost no grass. My husband has tried to get grass to grow there for the last few years with no luck. He tried serval products and most didn't result in any grass growth and the few products that did initially produce grass it would end up dying right after the first mowing. My husband gave up on it and said it was a waste of money and time to keep trying. I decided to buy this product and give it one last try. I scratched the surface with a rake, put this product down, and watered it daily for the first week or so. That was it and now I have 90% grass coverage on what was virtually all dirt. It is great! I bought a second bag to fill in the remaining patches. So far it has been a few months and several mows and it is still going strong. I bought a 2nd bag to fill in the remaining patches. I originally bought a small bag from Home Depot and it worked wonders on the hard to grow spots in my front yard around my bushes and retaining walls. I decided to check amazon and found a 10 lb bag for $19.36 which was cheaper than home depot at the time. I have no complaints! Worked in the backyard around my locust tree and grew within a week of where my dogs always pee. I highly recommend this product being used with their sun and shade grass seed mix too as it adds more seedlings for an even better turnout. Currently amazon raised their price so it's cheaper at lowes @ $19.36 but this product is fantastic! ... show more

Don't be fooled. The reason you can no longer buy this product in retail stores is because it is not the same quality product it used to be. You have to purchase it from an obscure merchant who, somehow, still has them in stock. It's been about a month of watering every day and we see no growth. We think that the seeds had expired or were there in very low numbers and didn't germinate. Given Scott's reputation, we even entertained the idea that the original product had been removed from the bags, replaced by something else, and resealed. I purchased this with the idea of patching some areas on my front and back yard lawn ... long story short. ZERO sprouts of grass from this entire container. what are the odds? I wonder now why the price point is so low... it's because you get NOTHING for you purchase. Save your money on this product. if I could ask for a refund I would. I used the entire bag and no longer have the container to return. Caveat Emptor ... translated = don't do what i did and waist you money on this product Can i give a negative rating? ... show more

This is the WORST lawn patch I have ever used. I order 3 and really would like my money back. Product guaranteed to grow in 7 days. It has been several weeks and not a bit has filled in. I spent over $40.00 on a Scotts product for nothing. If your product is guaranteed then reimburse me.

I bought "Pennington One Step Complete for Dense Shade Areas - Bare Spot Repair Grass Seed Mix" for the front yard. Within two weeks the bare spots were filled with new grass. Now you can't tell where they were. The back yard is sunnier, so we bought "Scotts PatchMaster Lawn Repair Mix Sun and Shade Mix." It did not work at all. The bare spots in the back are just as bare, but now they look worse because the grayish mulch is there. I watered every day. Whoever said "waste of money" is correct.
