I got this for my pontoon boat to keep the battery charged over the winter months when I am not using it. I was excited to get something specifically for marine applications that had some water resistance. The charger is meant to be permanently installed as evidenced by the lugs vice clamps meant to be screwed on the battery terminals. Plus there are four holed tabs for using screws or bolts for install. The wires from the charger to the battery or six feet or so, allowing for enough placement options. However, the cord that plugs into wall power is standard length. Okay if you already have shore power to your boat but my application requires and extension cord, which is not forbidden but not recommended in the instructions. The controls are easy to use and the charger adapts to different battery types (which you set). But the part that really impacted my plans was the warning line in the manual which said not to install in enclosed spaces or where there is no ventilation. On a pontoon EVERYTHING is under seats or in enclosed cabinets. I did not want to leave this charger exposed in the passenger area so I’ll just have to use it as a portable charger that I hook up in the winter and leave on the deck exposed (but under my overall boat tarp), but store in the garage in the summer. I wish it came with the option for clamps for this purpose, not just lugs that require unscrewing battery connections. But if you have a cuddy cabin (with one battery though) this might not be an issue for you. ... show more

This isn't a super fast battery charger, but it works well for overnight or maintenance charging to keep batteries well maintained and ready. It's kind of meant for semi-permanent installation, with ring terminals instead of, say, alligator clamps for the battery attachment. I like that the charger tells you the state of charge of the batter it's hooked to. It charges up the batteries really well. It takes up a bit more space than I thought it would. I think it would be better if the wires leading to the batteries weren't permanently attached to the charger. It really should use SAE quick connectors. ... show more

I have been using this battery charger for a bit now and I am very impressed with it. It charges well and consistently. It has a smart microprocessor that detects the battery type and adjusts the charge accordingly. It also has a multi-stage charging process that prevents overcharging and extends the battery life. It is very well made, has a water resistant case, and has a heavy duty cord. It is easy to install and use, with a digital display and LED indicators that show the charging status. I have used it on deep-cycle batteries and gel batteries and it works great on both. The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t come with clips, only having ring terminals. I had to buy some clips separately to connect it to the battery posts. It would be nice if they included them in the package. Installed this charger this past summer and it has consistently kept the batteries topped off and ready to go. Charging the batteries now takes a minute to back the boat into the parking spot and plug in. No more digging around the shed for an extension cord and the old charger.

If you aren't that familiar with battery chargers - Schumacher is one of if not the best and the market leader. This is EXACTLY the type of item you never want to cheap out on, so honestly - just buy a Schumacher and be confident that it won't short or damage your expensive batteries. This is a pretty sweet battery charger. Its pretty easy to use as long as you know what type of battery your charging you just switch modes and it does the rest. So far ive ised ot on a lead acid battery and a few different agm batteties and its worked great. Especially great product if you have a few batteries you need to charge as it has 2 sets of leads. Only thing im not a big fan of is the only way to connect it to a battery is thru ring terminals which means to hook M it up you need to unbolt your battery then bolt this to it which is ok just tine consuming would like to see atleast some kinda adapter to use a clamp ... show more

This double battery charger is super well-built. The case is strong and solid, providing good water protection. The controls and display are logical and easy to use. I really love the convenience of being able to charge and maintain two batteries at the same time. Most importantly, the maintain part. I don't want to have to keep track of plugging and unplugging a charger for my deep-cycle batteries in-between uses so I don't wreck my battery. However, I wish it came with battery clips. Not a big deal as I can add my own, but at this price point, it should come with them for ease and versatility. In this day and age, everything should be plug and play. ... show more
