It states it is an automatic charger, but is it really? It cheese well, and it converts to a trickle charger after fully charged. I don't like how you have to find the percentage of charge. You have to stop the charger and look at the percentage then restart the charger. Not sure if the type of battery is automatic either, but I have only charged the acid battery (AGM) so I am not sure.     • No way to get warranty service

I bought this charger in January it shipped fast came in good shape it was easy to put together and worked will for the first couple months, until a month ago and the charging side stop working altogether will not even light up or respond to any type of battery. So now starts the process of making a warranty claim which the add on Amazon and the paper stated that it had a two year warranty and maybe it does, however you have to deal with the manufacture and in order to do that you can call or email which I have done several times but the company will not respond to either making impossible to make a warranty claim. So I’m just out the money I spent on this unit and now shopping for a new unit but I will not purchase another unit of any kind from Amazon and of course will purchase another Schumacher product of any kind. Be very careful if you are thinking purchasing this or any other unit and know that you will probably be on your own if there are any warranty issues. ... show more

The directions state that if you set the unit on 40A it will automatically switch to 2-6A when the battery is fully charged. This is not true according to the customer service rep. The 40A light stays lit until you manually switch the unit to 2-6A. Also, when the unit is in the 40A mode it will not show % of battery charged. It must be in the 2-6A mode in order to see the % of battery charge. The directions are silent on this point however the customer service rep confirmed this point. ... show more

Bought off brand from harbor freight, it caught fire as did second one. This product is safe , well made and perfect so far. I also trust Amazon for its integrity
