This is a well-made feature-rich charger that any vehicle owner with a 12V battery will likely need someday. Hook it up, select the battery type and charge rate and press Start. It has protection built in to prevent damage if connected improperly. Even though this charger is called Pro, it is more suited for casual or medium use. It is likely not suitable for a high volume commercial shop. What I like… - Durable metal case. - Clamps are clearly marked by color and polarity. (See pic) - Sufficient cord length to reach most batteries while it is sitting on the garage floor. - Fully automatic operation, automatically switches to Maintain once the battery is charged. Protects against incorrect connections - Easy to see LED indicators. (See pic) - Bad battery detection and warning indicator. - Can jump start, charge or maintain, with a single device. - UL listed. Shortcomings… - The manual is not clear about operation. - Selection buttons are white flat disks on the display, they are not clearly marked with function. (See pic) - Battery clamps are not copper, they may corrode. - The grip handle in the case is awkward to carry. - Would be better if there was adequate cord wrap to stow the cables when not in use. The box included the charger with attached cables and clamps and a user guide. Simply connect and use, no assembly or set up required. (See pic) This is one of those things that you do not need… until you do and are glad that you have it. I’m keeping it handy for the next time my battery fails.     • Engine Start can't even turn over a motorcycle.
I have a weak battery on my bike to where if it's <60f outside my bike won't turn over, the engine start feature can't even give my battery assistance in turning over the engine. I ended up charging the battery for 30 minutes in order to start it. 3 stars only because it actually charges batteries.

The media could not be loaded. This is a good basic charger but the first thing I noticed was there was not a led to indicate the inclusion of a deep cycle circuit. Other slightly more expensive Schumacher models in this line do have that provision. I contacted Schumacher customer service and within 15 minutes received an email that stated, "For deep cycle batteries set the mode to "Gel". Ok, the charge parameters are about the same so kudos to Schumacher such a quick response. We tested the charger by completely draining a 60A AGM battery that was in good shape (12.9V) even though it was 10 years old by leaving the halogen headlights on for over 6 hrs. Believe me it was completely dead. The simple test was : Engine start - Connected the charger, put it "engine start" mode, push start button, wait 5 min. Try to start, wait 3 min. etc. try again, started on 3rd try. It took 17 min. until the car would start. > Note : This is not a negative point for this charger as no battery will pass thru the required current when it is completely dead. This circuit is for a low battery not a completely dead one. But it does indicate the charger is very capable of a quick charge. Charging - After the quick charge obtained from the start procedure we changed the settings to "Charge - AGM and let the it go thru a normal charge cycle which it completed and then automatically when into the maintenance mode. Did not stick around to see how long it took but everything worked as it should. There is no display on this charger to indicate voltage, current etc. but the LEDs in the center indicate the progress / mode that it is in. It has a very convenient carry handle but it was very inconvenient to store the cords as the area in the back is not quite large enough to wrap and secure the thick cords. That was frustrating and the reason for the 1 star deduction on an otherwise good basic charger from a brand name at a reasonable price. ... show more
