This charger is compact and easy to use. The hanging hook is pretty convenient. The clamps fit well over the terminals on my car battery. The clamps feel secure and well made. I connected this to a bad battery, and it detected the bad battery almost instantly. I connected this to our minivan that doesn’t get driven enough (so the battery always needs some charging), and the charger kicked right in and charged it up. I could tell that it started out at a higher amperage charge because the charger’s cooling fan kicked in pretty quickly… after a couple of hours it was still charging but the cooling fan was off, so it must have dropped down to a lower charge rate. A while later, the charger had switched to “charged/maintaining” so I knew the battery was full. After the battery was full, I shut off and removed the charger, then hooked it up again; it did not immediately recognize that the battery was full; even 5 or 10 minutes later it was still charging. I don’t know if the battery has a bad internal discharge rate, or if the car has a high power draw when off, or if the charger is just slow to recognize a full battery. I appreciate the ease of use with this charger, but I do miss a little more information about what’s going on, like battery voltage, charge rate, anything. The other thing lacking here is cable management. My older charger has brackets on the back where you can wind up the cables for storage. This charger has nothing; the cables are tied up with twist-ties, which are not great around engines and are easily lost or misplaced. I feel like this needs either knobs to wrap cables on, or Velcro loops to hold the cables. Overall, I like this charger, and I’ll be glad to say goodbye to my old-school charger that has been in my family for probably 40 years. ... show more

This is a very good battery charger for 12 Volt batteries such as those in a car or other vehicle. Having this around in the snowy cold winters where I live will be very useful. The charger is light weight but sturdy and has a hook on it to hang it next to a vehicle in the garage or elsewhere. The charger is packed with various indicators and safety features that tell you if your battery is dead, whether it is charging, whether you have reversed the clips on the battery, and other safety features. It charges well. My one complaint is that the power cord is a little short and they warn that they don't recommend using an extension cord. Thankfully the clamps are on long cords, so between their length and the length of the power cord it can reach my battery. The accompanying instructions are clear, although the number of warnings on them are enough to scare the wits out of you. But since charging a battery is a bit of a risky business if you don't know what you are doing, it's smart of them to have the risks on paper. The model FR01539 charger/maintainer by Schumacher is made in PRC (china). This battery charger was able to detect and not charge two separate bad batteries I test with. The one bad battery, the FR01539 charged for about 4 hours before detecting as bad, while the other battery was about an hour. The charger shutoff before I could smell any Hydrogen Sulfide gas. This charger does have a built in cooling fan and needs to be in a dry environment so it does not get wet. This charger does not have an SAE connector, so one would need to be added, but will likely void the warranty (Schumacher should add one). The FR01539 has no digital display to indicate voltage or battery charge (that costs more). The 10 amp version of this charger is the same physical size as the 5 am version, but has Service Mode added. I use this in a barn, so a good maintainer that will shutoff if the battery goes bad is of value to me. I recommend this charger. 5 stars ... show more

My kids (5 & 6) have had the best time with this kit! It comes with a plastic cauldron, a wand that doubles as a spoon, beaker and 3 flasks with lids. It comes with everything you need except for water. The instructions state to just drink a couple sips of each concoction and then save them in the fridge for up to 3 days. My kids liked the fizzing grapefruit potion the best and while they loved making the frog egg potion, they didn’t like how it tasted. Overall I think this is a really fun activity. The instruction booklet reads like a little story, which makes it a bit more interactive. I also really like the scientific explanation for each potion on the back of the book. I think $25 is a bit much, maybe $20 would be a better price. I think $15 would be a great buy! It’s a one and done activity, but you have the cauldron and accessories for self play afterward. I will say the potions aren’t very tasty, but my kids had fun and didn’t complain about it. ... show more
