  • Second one I've own.
Style: Jump Starter
Best jumper on the market.

  • Clamp broke before first use. Schumacher send me a replacement part at no charge.
Style: Jump Starter
The black plastic battery clamp literally flew apart during the initial battery charge. I plugged the unit in to charge it for 36 hours, as the instructions specify, and as I was walking away, I heard a snapping sound and half the handle, spring and plastic pieces flew across the room. I suspect that the plastic clamp was brittle and that just the pressure from the spring was enough to break it. I had just opened the box and hadn't even removed the clamps from their resting post by that point. Ok, it's made of cheap plastic instead of metal, but things happen even with the best equipment at times. The worst part of it is that Amazon says it can't be returned, and to contact the manufacturer. So... I called Scumacher and told them if they can just send me a new clamp I can replace it myself, saving both the expense and time of returning this heavy unit. They asked me to send a photo, which I did. It's now been two days and I've heard nothing but crickets. If they come through I'll revise my rating, but for now I have nothing complimentary to say about either the product or the support I'm receiving from Amazon or Schumacher. UPDATE: Changed my rating from 1-star to 4-star after Schumacher sent me a replacement clamp at no charge. Still a bit of an inconvenience to change the clamp out, but all's well that ends well. They did the right thing. Deducting one star for the cheap plastic clamp design, but since I will mostly be using the unit for the 12VDC lighter socket and not to jump start vehicles, this unit looks like it will work well for me. The 22 mAh battery is bigger than some of its competitors, and that's what's most important to me. ... show more

  • It works great No issues
Style: Jump Starter
Just charge it up and pop in the car. No issues with helping others charging their battery. This unit seems to hold onto the charge for long periods of without use

  • Fully Automatic Battery Charger
Style: Charger / Engine Starter
I needed a replacement for my 15-year-old battery charger. I have some collector cars that need periodic charging as well as some other motor vehicles. This charger appears well made and is fully automatic-just connect it to the negative and positive battery terminals, plug it in, and it will diagnose what the battery needs, charge it, and then switch to a maintenance mode. It displays battery voltage and charge percentage during the process. I gave it only 3 stars for ease of use because it comes with little/poor information as to how to use it, so my initial reaction was "how do I use this charger?". Fortunately, what I found was, that all you really need to do is connect it to a battery for a battery charge and maintenance. ... show more

  • How to get DSR118 to work on dead battery
Style: Charger / Engine Starter
I bought this charger for use on my Tahoe, which had an electrical problem and drained the battery down to 0.9 V. After initially hooking this charger up to my vehicle, I couldn't get it to charge. The charger tests the battery voltage, and if the battery is below the threshold, it reports back "battery disconnected" and won't supply current to the battery. I was able to trick the charger into getting the battery high enough to finally meet the threshold. Here's how: If your car has an electrical drain, disconnect the battery first, so its not drawing down the battery hook up charger leads On the charger push the mode button until it says "BOOST" or "SERVICE" the charger will wait maybe 20 seconds, then start supplying current After about 10-15 seconds of supplying current it will test the battery voltage. If the battery voltage is below threshold, the charging will stop. It did supply current for 15 seconds though. So after it stops, push the mode button again to get it back into BOOST mode, and get another 15 seconds of charging. It took maybe 6-8 rounds of this to get my battery up to ~5-6 volts, then the charger turned on fully, and stayed on. Kind of a pain in the ass to "trick" the charger but oh well. Otherwise seems to work good. ... show more

  • Works, seems sturdy.
Style: Charger / Engine Starter
My Camaro battery was dead and I had 1 regular/agm charger and 2 of the newer small type chargers that are supposed to restore completely dead batteries. I use the small ones for trickle chargers mainly. None would charge the dead battery in my 2010 Camaro and battery was only a couple months old. Tester showed under 2%, so I ended up buying this better pro series charger. As soon as I connected pos and neg cable from charger to battery my alarm went off on the car, that's a good sign. Was even able to open trunk and doors with remote. Put the DSR 118 on charging, after about minute, heard click sound and showed charging started. Let charger charge battery for 7 hours and showed 100% and car started. I could have started it with the jump start feature on the DSR 118 but wanted to slower charge the battery. Only odd thing I didn't understand was the charger showed 95% when I was charging and was less than 2%. If it works, is what mattered to me. Jump start feature will come in handy. Will test that on a vehicle that has been sitting over a year. This charger is heavy too, not like a battery, but doesn't feel cheap. The display where you push buttons is only sub par quality I could find, is like a thin flexible plastic and over time could loosen up. Would buy again. ... show more
