Replacing older DVD. Works well, easy to operate. One thing that I didn't notice in specs and instruction was that DivX codec is not supported, even if DivX is listed in the table of supported file formats. I have library of movies ripped to AVI format and have to go back and change them to MP4. Which is a good thing - the sound and picture is much better. I knew, eventually will have to update files to newer format, this DVD player was my motivator. LOL Hopefully I don't have to change the format for few year as I am sure new one will come around. Update - after using a week, it is easy to setup, can create shortcuts to main screen. When watching movies from DLNA, player remembers where watching stopped and can resume next time it is turned on - love it option as it was not available on any other DVD player. ... show more

Having a Samsung tv and soundbar, it was a no brainer getting a Samsung 4k blu ray player. It simply is plug and play, 3 minute set up. All Samsung products recognize each other, so no fiddling with this and that. I made the mistake of buying a well reviewed competitor, Sony X700, but it was too complicated to set up and just not worth it. Great return policy Amazon! The picture is stunning. I dont really need the apps for viewing, I just need the player to play physical 4ks or blu rays. And that it does! Sharp, beautiful color, great sound. Great price, easy setup. This was getting some pretty bad reviews but so far for the price this has worked great for me. I will say the case design and remote have little to desire but it's got a great picture and is functional for me. If your a power user your probably not going to find the user interface or the remote to be of the best design. With me I go more for picture quality and this does a good job with regular DVDs and Blu-rays. Update 11/19/18 Well the price was right and this has a great picture but it stopped playing blu rays after the first 4K dvd I played. I've only used it about 15 times and just purchased a 4K tv. I put a 4k disc in and looked great but now it won't play an blu ray any more guess the blu ray laser is toast or there's a software issue. I did a default reset and it played the blu ray one time and then the same will only play 4K movies now . Luckily I took the bad reviews to heart and bought the extended service plan. I’m glad I purchased the Samsung brand player. I didn’t realize when I was researching players that this should be a factor. I have a Samsung tv and the two units together work seamlessly. I now realize this makes the experience much nicer. The unit boots up super quick. The tv turns on and switches to the correct input automatically. The Netflix and YouTube apps work great. All in all, it’s a really nice player. The only thing I didn’t notice when researching was that this unit has a curved front edge. Not a deal breaker but I would prefer a straight edge. ... show more

    • First movie, remote failed and started causing errors. Second movie (without a working remote) ended up completely unplayable.

*Update* After trying to use the player without the remote and trying to fix the remote, I have come to the conclusion the remote is not only problem. Every command issued from the remote is picked up as ok/play. Home, tools, arrow keys, nothing else registers as anything but play/ok. The player itself randomly powers on if I even pick the remote up without pressing any buttons. Initially the player seemed to work without the remote, but that means most of the options aren't available. As of today, I cannot even play movies without the remote, in essence the player no longer works at all. *my initial review is posted below* The player itself seems to work well and the quality is pretty good. The the significant downside to the player itself is that it is slow and unresponsive, trying to change menu options often ends up skipping right over what you wanted to select unless you are super patient. The larger problem is the remote, not only does it not work well it seems to actually break the player. About an hour into my first movie I started having random/weird problems. When I went to check the menu settings, the remote wasn't working right and when I turned the player off it immediately turned backed on and had a blinking red/green light. After brief troubleshooting, I realized there is something wrong with the remote, it is constantly sending some sort of command to the player even when no buttons are pushed. When I took the batteries out of the remote, my problems seemed to go away. If they come back, I will update the review to reflect the fact the player doesn't work. ... show more

Works fine so far. Saved about 100 bucks going with a used option. It's said very good condition though so it seemed like a good deal. The condition its in is not very good at all. I would describe as maybe fair. The unit itself and even the remote look rough. If I could go back I would spend the additional 100 bucks to get a new unit to put next to my bad ass TV and Soundbar. ... show more

I am a stickler for sharp well balanced video and the Samsung M8500 delivers this expertly. Save yourself the trouble of trying other brands such as Sony or LG, this one has the goods in 4K. I have a large collection of DVDs, Blu Rays, and MKV data discs, and this Samsung makes them all look high definition. Beware of other Blu Ray players that upscale and can make the video blurry. This one does not. Samsung upgraded their interface and everything works fast, logically and high quality. This interface is a real advantage of the M series vs. K series. The interface/menu has an update feature, so as new apps and firmware are released you can get them via wireless. It has Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, TubiTV, Hulu, Google Play, Newsy, Xumo, BBC, NBC, Fandango, Redbox, and many others, as well as music apps like iHeart, Pandora, and Tune-In radio. I am very happy with my purchase. Amazon delivered it 2 days earlier than expected. You will need to get a high quality HDMI cable for 4K video. Highly recommended. ... show more
