  • Fast PCIe 5.0 SSD Performs Well in Home Lab Build
Style: 9100 PRO Capacity: 1TB
The Samsung 9100 PRO 1TB has been a great addition to my home lab server build alongside the i7-14700K and ASUS TUF Z790-Plus motherboard. PCIe 5.0 support on the board lets this drive stretch its legs, and the performance has been everything you would expect from Samsung's flagship line. Boot times on Debian are nearly instant and large file operations finish almost before you notice them starting. The sequential read speeds advertised on the box are not just marketing fluff, the drive genuinely flies when handed real workloads. For anything involving big data sets, virtual machines, or heavy I/O, the headroom is appreciated. Installation was the usual M.2 2280 routine. Drop it in the slot, secure the screw, and the system picked it up immediately. No firmware updates or fuss were needed to get it running at full speed. Heat is worth mentioning since PCIe 5.0 drives can run warm under sustained load. My motherboard's M.2 heatsink has kept temperatures reasonable, but anyone using this drive should make sure they have proper cooling in place. It is not optional at this performance tier. Samsung's reputation for reliability is part of the reason I picked this drive, and so far it has lived up to expectations. The 1TB capacity is a sensible sweet spot for a boot drive plus working storage, with larger bulk data living on spinning disks elsewhere in the system. For anyone building a current generation system that can take advantage of PCIe 5.0, this is a strong choice. Fast, reliable, and from a name with a solid track record. ... show more

  • From build quality to speed, it doesn’t disappoint. From build quality to speed, it doesn’t disappoint.
Style: 9100 PRO Capacity: 4TB
I've been building PCs for years, and Samsung has always been my go-to brand for storage. The Samsung SSD 9100 PRO 4TB PCIe 5.0x4 fits right in with the quality I’ve come to expect. From build quality to speed, it doesn’t disappoint. Build Quality: Strong and Durable The first thing I noticed when I took the drive out of the box was how solid it felt. It’s built to last with a sturdy heat spreader and a well-made PCB. This drive doesn’t feel flimsy at all, and I can tell it’s designed to handle heavy use over time. It’s a high-quality piece of hardware that inspires confidence. Performance: Fast and Ready for the Future The speed on this thing is impressive. I’m using it with my Asus z790 ITX motherboard, and even though the drive shares PCIe lanes with other components, it still delivers the advertised speeds without issue. Whether I’m loading large files, booting up Windows, or transferring a ton of data, it’s smooth and quick. The PCIe 5.0x4 interface means this drive is set up for the next few years, so I’m not worried about it being outdated any time soon. It’s fast enough for anything I’m doing now and should handle whatever comes next (not like there is anything I need faster at the moment :) ) Size: 4TB of Storage Having 4TB of space on an SSD is becoming more mainstream. I’ve got more than enough room for all my games, video projects, and backups, with plenty left over. Even with that much storage, the drive doesn’t slow down or feel sluggish. It’s great knowing I can store everything I need without worrying about running out of space. Value: Worth the Investment This SSD isn’t cheap, but it’s worth the price. Between the fast speeds, massive storage, and solid build, it’s a great investment. I’ve seen it go on sale a few times, but it’s rare, so if you spot one, it’s worth jumping on it. While it’s definitely an upfront cost, you’re getting something that’ll last and keep up with future needs. Final Thoughts The Samsung SSD 9100 PRO 4TB PCIe 5.0x4 is exactly what I wanted. It’s fast, reliable, and built to last. If you’re looking for a high-capacity drive that can keep up with everything you throw at it—and still be fast for years to come—this is a great choice. Just keep an eye out for sales, because it doesn’t go on discount often, but when it does, it’s definitely worth it. ... show more

  • Extremely Fast and Reliable SSD
Style: 9100 PRO Capacity: 2TB
This Samsung 9100 PRO is insanely fast and makes a big difference in system performance. Boot times, file transfers, and game loading are all noticeably quicker. Installation was easy and it runs cool and stable. Although I would recommend buying this on a sale only as I thing Samsung is overpriced for memory. ... show more

  • Just what was needed.....
Style: 9100 PRO Capacity: 2TB
Read and write speeds are amazing. Installation is easy and fits nicely next to the other slots. I added a heatsink to lower the temperature, as it sits between 46c to 57c on heavy load, mostly because that drive slot sits under the graphics card. The storage is fine for now. Will upgrade to more, hopefully once the outrageous prices come down. Got it for $189 on Nov. 25, 2025 and as of 05/24/26, it is $444.99. So far it seems pretty reliable and it is compatible with my B850 Gaming WiFi6 Gigabyte motherboard. ... show more

  • The fastest and most reliable PCIe 5.0x4 SSD!
Style: 9100 PRO Capacity: 2TB
The Samsung SSD 9100 Pro works extremely fast in a PCIe 5.0x4 M.2 slot. Make sure to use a heatsink, as this runs a lot hotter than previous models due to the speed. But more importantly, Samsung is the best brand in my opinion, with no catastrophic failures in all my decades of using them. In some other name brands (both cheap and expensive), I have had failures of the whole drive. While more expensive than most brands, Samsung is worth the extra cost. Don't compromise with your data! ... show more

  • Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB SSD: A Solid Performer, But with a Catch Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB SSD: A Solid Performer, But with a Catch
Style: 9100 PRO Capacity: 2TB
Performance: Sequential vs. Random The sequential read/write performance is impressive. As you can see from the first benchmark, the drive consistently hit write speeds of around 1,782 MB/s and read speeds of 1,705 MB/s on my system. This is a significant upgrade from a traditional SATA drive and is more than enough for everyday tasks, large file transfers, and gaming. The performance graph shows a smooth, stable line, indicating that the drive can sustain these speeds without significant drops. The IOPS numbers were also very strong, hitting 1,437,702 on write and 1,344,7523 on read. However, the drive's behavior under random I/O is a different story. In the second benchmark, using a single thread, the performance was a bit more volatile. While the average write speed was a respectable 5,021 MB/s and read speed was 2,810 MB/s, the graph shows a lot more fluctuation. When I increased the number of threads to eight, the performance became even more erratic, with a lower average speed of 1,431 MB/s for reads and a similar 1,572 MB/s for writes. The access times also increased under heavier random loads, which suggests that the drive's controller might be struggling to manage a high number of simultaneous, random operations. Why the Difference? The discrepancy between the sequential and random performance likely has to do with how the drive's controller and cache are optimized. While it's great for sustained sequential transfers (like copying a large video file), it appears to be less efficient at handling many small, scattered operations at once, which is typical for a busy operating system or a database. The 9100 PRO's strengths are clearly in the sequential domain, where it can flex its Gen 5 muscles even on a Gen 4 interface. Conclusion The Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB is a fantastic high-performance SSD, even when it's limited by a PCIe 4.0 interface. It delivers exceptionally fast sequential speeds that are perfect for users who frequently work with large files. However, if your primary use case involves a lot of high-intensity, random I/O (e.g., a heavily used workstation or server), you might notice some performance dips under a multi-threaded load. Overall, I would recommend this drive for gamers, content creators, and anyone looking for a high-capacity drive for fast file transfers. If you have a Gen 5 system, you'll be able to unlock its full potential, but even on Gen 4, it's a very capable and fast drive. ... show more

  • Fast and Toasty Fast and Toasty
Style: 9100 PRO Capacity: 4TB
I bought this being the AI price gouging began. 🤞🏼 If you don't *need* a PCIe 5.0 drive, don't buy this until the prices are back to normal. I paid around $370 for this 4TB drive around Black Friday in 2025, and that wasn't much more than a 4TB 4.0 drive at the time, so I figured I might as well opt for the fastest drive before the crazy RAM prices spilled over to SSDs too. The drive runs great, and the Samsung Magician program updated the firmware without any fuss. I've used several SSD brands, and in my experience, the Samsung drives tend to be the most reliable, and the warranty is great too. I'm using the heatsink which came with my motherboard, and it seems to fit the SSD fine, I didn't feel any weird resistances while seating the heatsink on top of the drive. Yes, the drive runs warm (peaks in the low 50s on my setup under heavy use), but I've never noticed any thermal throttling. I have this installed in the top M.2 slot on my motherboard and it's running at expected PCIe 5.0 speeds. If you have a cheap motherboard or a lower end CPU, your speeds may vary a bit. For most people, a PCIe 4.0 drive is more than adequate, and benchmarks have shown repeatedly that there's basically no gain in boot time or game loading with a 5.0 SSD, it's a vanity purchase for most folks. If you're on a budget, get a 4.0 drive instead. Gigabyte Aorus Elite Ryzen 7 9800X3D 64GB DDR5 6000 CL30 ... show more
