  • My introduction to Blu-Ray
After seeing DVD is an almost abandoned format now (all the bonus features go to Blu-Ray) I decided to bite the bullet and start looking for players, the price and features made this stand out so I grabbed two, one for upstairs, one for down.. Setup was a snap, after connecting to wifi it prompted me to upgrade the firmware, a painless process, set up my apps, Pandora, Netflix, Amazon prime, right out of the gate I used to watch Netflix on my wii at 480, (big bonus, I thought my two older flatscreen tvs were 720, on setting up the Blu-Ray, this player pushed them both into 1080i) so my Netflix jumped from 480 to 1080, you can imagine how pleased I am with that.. My old DVD players were upconversion players and DVDs looked great at 720, again, imagine the satisfaction of seeing all my DVD's jump to 1080, they look amazing. The apps are great. It also plays burned DVD's if anyone was curious about that as not all players read burned DVD's. It has a USB port so you can plug in a thumb drive with music, pictures or video and access them on your tv. It's a small player, fits into shelf systems with the smallest of footprints, all in all, I'm sure the pricier systems have more features, but this does everything I want and more. Couldn't be happier with the purchase. The included hdmi cable was nice, batteries for the remote would have been welcomed too. A lack of a power light seems a bit confusing, but put a thumb drive in the slot and it lights up when the units on so its a decent workaround. The remote is pretty basic and featureless, I noticed some units have dedicated apps buttons like a Netflix button, but as handy as that would have been, it's not a huge chore getting to the apps. For people commenting that there's only like 11 apps, go to the opera tv store app.. You can download hundreds more apps. The very slight complaints aren't enough to cost this a star, for $44 bucks I jumped into the hd world of Blu-Ray and it'd been a bargain at twice the price. And it's really nice for the upstairs player being able to watch Netflix in 1080 on the tv instead of having to watch it on my iPad. If you're on the fence, get it. You won't be disappointed. Now to get a bigger tv 😀 ... show more

  • Great Product even Refurbished Great Product even Refurbished
I liked the product and the picture was great on a 70 Inch and 3, 50 inch TV's. This is a great product. Samsung has made great Blu-Ray players for a long time and this one is what most people want. Great price (refurbished) and simple controls. If I had to ding it for anything it would not be the Sellers responsibility to take a hit, it's the manufacturer. 1) An indicator light to let you know if it is on could not be that hard to install, especially in todays world. 2) Boot time is a little long until you go into the settings and change to quick boot. The unit will work harder if you do this, but its worth it. This unit is solid in its construction and has performed flawlessly on the 4 TV's we have them connected too. Make sure to update the firmware if needed after you get it configured for wifi or network. I bought 4 and had to update 2. This was not an issue, just a reminder. I would definitely purchase these units again. ... show more

  • Do not buy this. Do not buy this.
After a month it stops working, and if by a miracle you get the bloody thing to turn on and go to Netflix, Amazon, or YouTube really any app it offers than it will become stuck on the app for some time, some time meaning several bloody hours, and if you are an impatient person like me the only way to avoid your 10-16 hours of looking at the red and black glowing Netflix sign is to kill the small thing from the wall (take the plug out from the wall) also the C.D tray is very slow to open and close, and won't play most of the brand new blue ray cds I bought it, such as the following 1. Taken by Steven Speliburg 2. Lord of the Rings (all three) 3. Harry Potter (1-7) 4. Any and all Alien V.S Predator 5. Season 1-4 of metalocalypse The remote is a whole entire different novels or complaints as to the bloody thing is about as bipolar as Texas weather. One day it works the next it doesn't, sometimes the cursed thing will work an hour later. For instance on one such occasion I came home and pressed the power button and sat down and waited for the screen to come on eventually I slacked jaw and disappointed fell asleep to a wonderful dream of being the terminator and killing this damned thing and woke up 6 hours 30 minutes and 21 seconds later to the screen still blank finally I decided to just watch movies on my computer and while walking over to get it and saying a few choice words or really the same word over and over and over again the word that if you've watched a Christmas story I would have gotten soap in my mouth for hours on end for saying the word that cousin to this word is "fudge" for anyone who hasn't seen Christmas story of you still don't know what I mean get the movie boondocks saints (not the crappy tv show the movie with Norman reedus in it) the word is used 239 times. The damn screen came on mind you this had been a good 6 hours later from pressing the button. Another compliant I have is that while I'm writing this review I'm some how magically sitting on my arse looking at my screen in hopes that Netflix will finally work this time because if not I'm going to have to go back to anger management or seriously rethink my life decisions. Sincerely Annoyed/ P***** customer who now after the purchase of this product has a twitch in their eye and that's no damn call coincidence (the following picture is the Netflix screen it's on it's 3 rd hour) ... show more

  • Great Blu-ray player with wifi and apps!
Very excited to get a good quality blu-ray player at such a great price! While we will use it for playing DVDs/Blu-rays, we mostly use the player for the built in smart apps. I don't have a smart tv in our living rooms, so this allows us to watch netflix, amazon prime, hulu, and youtube. So far everything has run really great, much faster loading time than our older version. My ONLY gripe is the remote, I really wish the remotes these days all came with a keyboard on the remote... I'm not a fan of having to click back and forth to spell out everything on the on screen keyboard when needed. That being said though, product works great, is exactly as described, no problems with set up, wifi works great. Happy customer! ... show more

  • Works wonders
In my search for a blu-ray player, I intended to avoid refurbished products and instead go for something new, but every new product I looked at had very mixed reviews and the reviews made me hesitant. It came down to an $80 Blu-ray and this one, and I am so happy with my choice! First off, hats off to Amazon. They gave me free one-day Prime shipping with this product. I ordered it at 11:30pm on Friday and it got to my house at 1:30pm on Saturday. I was so happy. Second, the blu-ray works even better than I could imagine. I essentially wanted something that I could play Blu-ray discs and watch Netflix on. This player does it all. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Pandora, even more apps in the store. You can even attach a USB and watch videos, play music, look at photos, etc. Third, the device itself looks like I ordered it brand new. It came in what looked like the original box (inside of an Amazon box), with the remote, instructions, and even an HDMI cable! Setup was so easy, the device isn't slow by any means (unless your wifi is slow - which only affects the apps), and the layout is beautiful, reminds me of Windows 8. For less than $50, this blu-ray player is a dream. ... show more

  • It's an OKAY unit but does the job.
When it first arrived and I tried using it I had a very hard time getting it to turn on. There is no light to let you know if it is on or off and it takes about 30 seconds before it shows up on the TV. It doesn't have a lot of apps installed on it and will not let you remove certain ones from the list that pops up. Lastly the remote does work with Samsung TV's but is lacking the channel button to allow you to ditch the remote that came with your TV. The Blu-ray remote has the power, source, and volume for the TV but not the channel button. That was a poor design. With all that negative said it does connect quickly to the internet and does play very quickly when using Amazon video. Pandora also seems to work well with no issues. I was tempted to return it for the issues but will settle with it for the quick and seamless connectivity to the internet. ... show more

  • Great item at a great price!
I am basing this review based on the fact that this is a certified refurbished unit and I knew that going in. It did not come in the original retail box. That doesn't bother me. It came with an hdmi cable, the remote, the DVD player and the setup instructions. You will need 2 AAA batteries for the remote. Cosmetically I could not tell it was a refurbished unit. No scratches or any visible signs of previous use. I unboxed it and in about 10 minutes I had it connected to our wifi and had it logged into our Netflix and Amazon Prime account and began streaming a movie for our 4 year old. After he watched one movie via streaming he then watched one bluray DVD and 2 non bluray dvd's. I have already ordered a 2nd one to use for our out door movie nights. The built in wifi will be great for streaming outside and of course using the blu ray for high quality movies for our outdoor movie night. I highly recommend this certified refurbished unit. I did notice that it said over 250 apps. After 8 hours of non stop use it was still only showing 11 apps. I was only concerned with Amazon Prime and Netflix for my needs and those are 2 of the 11 showing up. So I am still happy with my purchase for the price. I did check to see if there was a firmware upgrade available and it said my unit had the most current firmware available. So even though I am not seeing 250 apps I still intend to keep it as it will fit my needs. ... show more

  • Apparently I got a good one.
Did not realize this was a refurb when I purchased, so I've been watchful and leery. So far so good. Nearly a month of daily use, and no problems. Others report issues with freezing after software update, and general unreliability, but none of these things have manifested themselves. The unit turns itself on and off automatically when the HDMI port is accessed, or powered down, so no power light is needed. Good performance with DVD, Blu-ray, or USB files. Decent online performance for Netflix and YouTube using wireless access. A good value so far. If I needed another, I'd buy one again. ... show more
