  • Awesome unit
The great: This thing seems to power whatever I can throw at it. It's typically running a 30a RV. I accidentally turned on everything (microwave: 2000w, AC: 1500w, water heater: 1500w), and the inverter was fine for the minute it took me to realize I was drawing well over 30 amps. Oops! I have a 3500w inverter generator that wasn't quite happy running two RV air conditioners at the same time. But this inverter could handle it just fine. I spent an afternoon with two RVs plugged into the inverter without any issues. The acceptable: The fan runs nearly continuously even with low (say 300w) loads. That's no a problem for me -- but I wouldn't install it in a bedroom. The idle power consumption is a bit high. Even with the aforementioned 300w load, the inverter is drawing quite a bit more than that. Of course, I didn't get a 4000w inverter to efficiently run a 300w load - but it would be nice if it were a bit better in this department. Features I wish it had: A hybrid / "power boost" functionality would be awesome. Magnum and Victron have this functionality. I'd love if this could augment the input power from my generator, rather than replace it. I didn't think I'd really care about this feature -- but it would be really nice to have. Better connectivity with the outside world is another missing feature. There's the remote control unit. But the little text-only display looks like it was stolen from a 2-way pager in the 90s. Samlex customer support has been great. They'll provide (under an NDA) the communication protocol so you can design all your own tools to interface with it. But it's most certainly not plug and play. And finally, it would be nice to have better integration capabilities with a lithium ion BMS. Most BMSes have separate output (if they have any output) for allowing charging vs. discharge. But the EVO only has one input which cuts off both charging & discharging. It would be great if the EVO had separate controls for disabling charge vs. discharge. But all told, this thing is great! I think the extra features above keep it from 5 stars for me. But for day-to-day usage, this has been flawless. ... show more

  • Beast
I've only recently installed this to power our off-grid tiny home. My main goal in purchasing this was to be able to run just about anything I can throw at it. This easily powers a contractor Delta table saw, Dewalt chop saw, etc. The surge abilities this unit has come in hand with handling the hard starting of those motors. I have yet to try to run a small compressor, but, may have to try it shortly and report back. This is connected to a Tesla Model S battery pack (24V), and energized with 1.5kW of solar panels. I haven't needed to contact support for anything just yet, however, one of the main considerations of buying this device over say a Schneider Conext was the manual and how well it is written that anyone from any level of knowledge of electricity could approach it and connect the inverter up safely and successfully. Seriously, go to their website, download and read it. Great information from cable sizing to batteries... I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of their other inverters or products. The build quality on this inverter is top notch. The inverter weighs about 75 lbs, and comes packaged well. Shipped from FL to HI and had no damage. The return box it comes packaged in was also in perfect condition. I will update this review as I continue to live off the power this device provides. Kudos Samlex! Update 12/12/22 --- This unit is still operating 24/7/365. The only issue we've ran into was noticing the fan seemed stuck at a higher RPM, resetting the unit seemed to clear whatever was necessary for the fan to kick down. One downfall for settings is you really need to buy the extra control panel for it to take advantage. ... show more

  • Not as robust as other's have claimed
Purchased this inverter/charger because of the features and because of other reviews on here stating that this thing is a beast. The only resemblance it has to a beast is it's size. Definitely not it's operation. Installed in an RV. Shore power (Grid AC) is configured properly for 30 amps, however this inverter never allows more than 20 amps in. I also hooked up 1200W of solar panels (outputting nearly 30A) to the EXT. CH. ports but it never allows more than 5 amps through to the batteries. There are no configurable settings I could find on the unit or in the manual which would explain this. Now the cooling fans, which seemed to always kick on randomly, don't turn on any more and the unit is getting super hot. I started using a 20" box fan to blow air through the vents to try to keep the temps down, but it gets so hot I nearly burned my hands when I touched the cover. I've reached out 3 times to Samlex America tech support but they are ignoring me. Now I have a really expensive paper weight. I would look elsewhere if your in the market for an inverter. This company obviously doesn't care about it's customers or it's faulty products. ... show more

  • Rock solid unit
This inverter is excellent. It is intelligent, and built rock solid. It will charge your battery bank off of generator yet switch to inverter mode seamlessly when it needs to start a motor, then switch back to the generator within seconds. The instruction manual and engineering of this unit are both works of art. ... show more

  • Awesome
This little inverter is a beast. I've run everything I own at it in full use. Mind you not at the same time but since I installed it at our off grid home it works great. The list of stuff I have run. 900 watt microwave (I can only run for 1 minute solar system too small) 4 horse compressor (I have to watch batteries) 2 horse saw 1 horse sump pump Extra large washing machine Full size freezer and small chest freezer Small vacuum cleaner Led lights And the charger works great as well when I have cloudy days and have to be on generator. The only problem is it draws 18 watts unless in standby then it uses 8 watts. If your battery bank can handle that then great but in the winter mine cannot. ... show more
