This is soft shell, so in other words a bag. I recommend using this to place your luggage or other items that are already in boxes or like containers. It does have a great amount of storage space inside it and easy to install and use even if you don't have a luggage rack to strap it down onto. No leaks so far and keeps things dry.

I acquired this car roof bag through Vine. I was interested in the product for road trips. Now that we have two children, we'll need the extra storage space even with our SUV. Opening the carrying case, I'm impressed by the size and quality of the bag. Though it's a soft shell bag, it's clearly what I'll call rubberized and has some weight to it. I trust it to be waterproof and durable. There are even flaps that velcro over the entire zipper so moisture can't get in through the zipper. There are adjustable straps that buckle around my roof rack as well as convenient handles on the sides. To protect the roof of the vehicle, the bag comes with a non-slip pad (I've used the same material as kitchen cabinet shelf liners). What I didn't find included were any installation or care instructions. There are some small straps included... I haven't figured out what to do with them. It's also my understanding this bag can be used with or without a roof rack. Instructions would be helpful, perhaps as a laminated/waterproof, double-sided sheet of paper, easily tucked into a pocket on the carrying case.
