I have to point out, it is quickly evident that this is nicely made. The first thing you notice upon opening the package (very well packed btw) is the impression of quality and overall sturdiness. Our chickens are very young, they’ve only been laying for a few months, and we want to let them set on a few eggs to jumpstart them, if you will, for the incubator. Our weather had been down into single digits and below zero, so we have had a number of frozen eggs. Once things warm up a bit more we will start a team effort with our hens. We did take some fresh eggs and tried them in the unit just to make sure it is functioning correctly, and everything seems to work well. So far, so good. As soon as we’ll hatch a few, I will return to update this review. As for price, there appear to be others on Amazon with four star + reviews that cost less, so we really need to see this perform well to be completely satisfied

DO NOT DISCARD WHAT MAY AT FIRST APPEAR TO YOU TO BE SIMPLE PACKING MATERIAL! It's functional insulation for use in colder ambient weather and climates!! This little 20 egg incubator (20 chick sized eggs, but obviously will hold more quail, pheasant, chukkar, etc.,eggs accordingly, and although it's not mentioned, it will hold clutches of smaller (especially wild stock) turkey eggs). The floor actually has a shearing function that will automatically roll the eggs as needed. It's advisable to mark the ggs when you set up each clutch to assure complete and proper movement of the clutch as well as the individual eggs. There's the novel addition of a highly functional candler even added to the unit, something that I'm surprised took this long to be developed, as simple as it is! The humidifier bottle is artfully simple, and as long as you keep it full, it'll serve you well. Whether it was misfortune or stupidity, the first clutch fell prey to a marauding coyote despite an extra layer of welded wire around it for varmint proofing, but the second clutch enjoyed a 100% hatch. So, the incubator did it's job just fine each time...I failed. As if it wasn't enough, there was a four piece chick waterer setup that came with the set for good measure! ! WAS, AND REMAIN EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THIS SETUP, AND DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE COYOTE RIPPED INTO THE SYSTEM AND GOT THE EGGS, ONLY VERY, VERY MINIMAL "REPAIR" WAS REQUIRED TO GET THE SET BACK IN GOOD, CLEAN WORKING ORDER! i CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS LITTLE SETUP ENOUGH, ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE! Until you get some familiarity with it, try to make contact with someone with some experience, and if there's one sound piece of info you'd do well keeping in mind it's this: when you set the incubator up. MAKE SURE THAT YOU LEAVE IT LONG ENOUGH TO COMPLETELY STABILIZE! If in fact you are unable to get it to stabilize, you need to do whatever it takes to address the issue, for starters by contacting the seller, who will almost surely be more than willing to help you in any way that they can. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE AN INCUBATION RUN WITH AN UNSTABLE SETUP. It's a fatal error for the clutch, and it will only serve to dishearten you. Trust me on that. I'd be willing to help you if there was a way for you to get in touch with me without putting my contact info on blast to the Amazon world,and I say that to moreso say to you that you will likely be able to find help readily and easily. The online sources, forums, etc., alone are phenomenal, especially with today's chicken raising craze so prevalent now!

I got this for a project of incubating eggs. Going through the process of life. We don't have our eggs yet, but I have put it all together to check to make sure all seems to be working. The directions for set up was really easy to follow. You can set the temp range and humidity range you are needing for your eggs. As well as an alarm to let you know if the eggs get to hot or to cold. All really nice features especially given the price point. You can set it to automatically roll the eggs or you can push a button and rotate the eggs, in turn resetting the 2 hour timer. This seems odd how it works, so it will be interesting to see how it works once eggs are inside. When you go to set up the humidifier, you definitely cannot use just any old water bottle. You need to use a soda bottle or a sturdy plastic water bottle. I made the mistake of trying it with a basic flimsy water bottle, and well lets say most of the water ended up on the counter and myself....lol. So be sure to have a good water bottle when setting up the humidifier portion. It did seem to take quite a bit of time to get up to temp. I am sure the fact that it was setting on a stone counter top made a difference, but it did heat up and stay at temp. I will likely use the Styrofoam cover that they provided to help keep it warm and keep the heating element from needing to run constantly. The directions do say if the temp in the room is at 65 degrees F or lower to use the Styrofoam cover. I can see why this would be important as their is little to no insulation value otherwise. I checked to see if the the candling light works using eggs I had in the fridge (yes I know there will be nothing to see). The light worked and you could see that the eggs were indeed not fertilized in this case...lol. So for the price this seems like a good buy. I have not owned anything like this before, so I have nothing to compare it to. But it seems to work as intended. I will update my review once we have our eggs inside of it, in about about a month.
