My wife went into labor a year and a half ago and that labor went very quickly....so quickly that she ended up giving birth on our bed in the presence of EMTs. We then went to the hospital where I stayed overnight with my wife and new baby girl. The next day, once things had clamed down, I went home to clean up before they came home. For those who have witnessed or gone through child birth, you know what a mess I arrived to. For those who haven't, suffice to say there are many different types of fluids and a lot of them. Let's just say I was fully expecting to be purchasing a new mattress. To my amazement, once I'd bagged our sheets and this mattress pad, our mattress was perfectly fine. I bought another one immediately and will continue to use this brand as long as it exists. I challenge anyone to put it through a more rigorous test and I'm positive it can stand up to some sweat or your child's pee in the middle of the night. Functionality & Protection I purchased this SafeRest protector in 2022 specifically because I have elderly cats. It has saved my mattress from "accidents" more than a few times over the last four years. The feel is excellent; it features a soft cloth top over the waterproof layer, so you don’t feel like you are sleeping on a sheet of crinkly plastic. Performance & Comfort One of the best features is the sweat resistance. Despite the waterproof barrier, I haven't noticed any extra warmth or "hot sleeping" issues that usually come with cheaper covers. It remains breathable while staying 100% functional. Sturdiness & Fit It installs easily and very snugly on my Queen mattress. Even after four years of heavy use, I have noticed the sturdiness of the sides despite their thin material. Note that this is a "fitted sheet" style protector, so there is no zipper quality to worry about—it just slips right on and stays put under your regular sheets. Value for Money While the sides might not last much longer, this protector has more than met my expectations for its life expectancy. Seems good so far! Fit over a 14” mattress and a tempur-pedic topper. Had a weird smell initially but I washed it twice and it was fine. Even putting it on I was skeptical about the sound, but once the sheets were on, it doesn’t sound weird at all.
