After a year-and-a-half of manually opening and closing the coop door (and losing animals to raccoons if I was not home in time), I finally caved and bought this. The installation should be easy and was, but I had to retrofit the coop for this door. This door is narrower than what was built in the coop. Overall it was simple. The door has been up for a few months and was installed during New York’s winter. There has been a few occasions during cold and wet weather the door has gotten stuck and possibly frozen. I had to go out and simply knock on the panel to loosen it and it opened and closed without issue. Overall this has been a game changer and I would highly recommend. The only thing I wish it had was a way to control the door manually from the app. ... show more

    • It just works!
At first I was skeptical about the light sensor working at the right time, chickens possibly getting locked out. I am now a believer. The chickens put themselves to bed before the door closes and it has always been open when I get here in the morning. Easy to install, just four screws over the standard coop cutout. I am so glad I bought this automated sensor and not one on a timer I would have to constantly adjust with the changing hours of light. I considered solar powered options but reconsidered once I saw how long this unit lasts on 2 AA batteries. Much simpler to keep some batteries around for when the light flashes red indicating it’s time for new batteries. I’ve had this unit in use since Early summer it is now halfway through December and still on the first set of batteries. The snow we get here would probably cover the solar panel anyway so this was a much better option. I use it to let the chickens out of the coop and into a big run until I arrive when I let them out of the run to free range. No injured chickens. When I installed the door I used my hand in place of a chicken and the door stopped and opened before putting much pressure, I was satisfied that it would not injure them. It doesn’t move particularly fast giving any chicken time to move. I’ve found all the chickens on the roost bars in the coop before the door closes anyway. When the door is shut, it shuts down into a channel giving any predators even raccoons no way to force the door up. In freezing weather this could be a way for the door to freeze up. When the door is up it is also very close to the wall it is mounted on which could also get blocked by ice and snow. My coop has a big gable end and the end of the runs tarped roof is over that so not a concern for me. If it was I would just block/shim/trim out the coop entrance before installing the door to give it more clearance from the exterior wall. I also appreciate this item was not produced in China. It is well built and doesn’t seem cheap and flimsy like most items coming out of China. ... show more

UPDATE: They are sending out a new part immediately. Had to talk with someone who via phone and a few back and forth emails but they do stand behind their product. Feel good that they are following through with their warranties. Customer service is 24/7 and very helpful and actually return phone calls. Very happy. Feel confident in ordering from this company. UPDATE: 6 months later chicken door no longer works. New Duracell batteries and all - nothing! Called customer service and you don't speak to a person, it's an answering machine!? We will see if I get a call back - hoping this is just a fluke situation and they back their product. Will update when I hear something or don't. I love this door. We have had it for 2 months now and it has made such a difference for us. I love that if the chick is in the way it doesnt close til out of the way. So many of the others kill 🐔. We dont have to run out in morn and let them out or run home when out with friends to lock em up. I would strongly suggest anyone who has free range chicks get this. We love the freedom it gives us and im sure the chickens do too. ... show more
