  • Top quality sound, excellent playability, limited life
I've been playing bass guitar regularly since 2007. Back then I was playing through a guitar amp on a friend's P-bass and just using regular Ernie Balls. Nowadays I've got my own Ampeg amp and an ESP LTD D-5 with active electronics. I've used several different brands and styles of strings on it. These are the best strings I've ever played, including some much more expensive sets. They have a tone that just screams, especially in the mid-range. If your fingers are used to lighter gauges or finer materials, they may take some getting used to, but it is absolutely worth it. I've only had them on for about two weeks now so I can't exactly comment on their durability. However, I have absolutely put them through their paces! I've been experimenting with alternate tunings and ripping at them fairly hard with a big thick pick in addition to my normal finger-style technique. They've sounded spectacular no matter what I've thrown at them. If you have any hesitation about trying these strings I strongly urge you to put it to one side and slap these puppies on. You won't be disappointed. UPDATE Jan. 20, 2022: It pains me to do this, but I must remove a star for durability. The intonation and playability have been greatly reduced, although I never play more than two or three hours a week. They also seem to go out of tune much faster, requiring multiple tune-ups if I play for an extended period. They're still worth the money and sound great for the first few weeks, but they aren't perfect. ... show more

  • Some of the best ever made.
I decided to go with the Rotosound SM665 Swing Bass 66 set for my Fender Jazz 5 string ( which is mexican made and the only mods are a badass bridge and Seymour Duncan bassline pups). I tried these string years ago and I really didn't 'get' what all the hype was about them). Certainly there are tons of string manufacturers out there and everyone's taste varies. That being said - I 'GET' the hype now. I will use Rotosounds going forward. First of all, you gotta give the co' credit- they were the first to make round wounds. They know the formula for success in making good round wound bass strings. There are World class pros that still use these bass strings. For me, I love the feel of the strings, and in terms of sound, they could easily be put up against the best that are out there these days, including Dunlop,DR,Elixir, LaBella, D'Addario, Dean Markley and Ernie Ball. If you are looking for a set of bass strings with harmonics evenly across the string, good tension, bright tone, sizzle, and a good sounding Low B string, then this is the set for you. If you are into ' bass growl' then these strings will increase that growl considerably. I'm even surprised that these strings still sound 'like new' on my bass and have not gone dead yet- I have had them on for approximately a month and a half and I play 4 to 5 times a month live. I play progressive rock, gospel, & R&B primarily. I do alternate between 2 basses on live gigs but in defense of the life of rotosounds, my hands sweat alot. Another musician mentioned in one of the posted reviews that the strings have a 'depth' to them especially when they have set for a while on the instrument. I have to say that I agree with that. Can't say that about some other brands. And as for the price, I paid less for the set purchased on Amazon than I normally would buying my reg set at a Sam Ash Store or Guitar Center. One of the things that I truly love about music is that musicians generally hunger and search for getting a great sound and A+ tone. Along with the need to create, improvise and play live, this drives us. We have a lot of options available to us regardless of what type of instrument you play. Always keep your ears and your options open. ... show more

  • Perfect vintage growl
I installed these on a Schecter Diamond P 5 string bass. This bass offers a very wide range of tones from vintage to modern. I'm a huge fan of vintage tone but also love having the low end of that 5th string. I've been through a number of string manufacturers, looking for that growl that is so prevalent in older Geddy Lee and Entwistle tones. These strings absolutely deliver. Almost to the point where you get a tube breakup sound by increasing finger attack. Bright enough but never harsh. Fantastic with a pick, fingers or thumb and forefinger popping. Definiteky my go to string now. Only caveat (with this specific bass) is that the string length doesn't allow for them to be strung through the body. Not a deal breaker. ... show more

  • Rotosound=The Best Bass Strings
I've been using Rotosound Swing Bass 4- and 5-string sets on all my basses since 1969 when I bought my Fender Jazz and the guy at the music store threw in a pack and recommended that I put these on right away...I've tried many, many other brands and I always come back to Rotosound. They seem to be more flexible than other brands of the same gauge, they're responsive, the tone is long-lasting, they've never rusted while another supposedly stainless steel brand did, and they're priced right! If you like the bright, grand piano-like tone that round wound strings give your bass, Rotosound is the way to go! ... show more

  • I have a problem I need help with??
The problem is of my own making. While installing the low B (125) string I accidentally cut the string too short... The ball had come out of the bridge while I was fitting the string. I didn't realize the error until it was too late. It doesn't even have one full turn around the tuner peg. I can't keep it in tune. Is there anything you can do to help me???? • WORLDS BEST BASS STRINGS IMO
I have a four string Fender P-bass, I have it set up for B - E - A - D tuning, I use the low four strings from this set so they are heavy enough to sound good in this low tuning. I'm a huge fan of RotoSound bass strings, love that ping and treble clarity. Good music to all!
