  • Yes. this is the torch you should buy.
The media could not be loaded. This is by far the best torch I have ever owned or used and I have had them all. Seriously Vectors are cute but they die in a month or to, Newports are cheap and die in a week, any torch I have used has died in a few months but they all have shown steady decrease in performance after a few days. I use my tools. I have put this torch through its paces and then some, and still this thing blasts like a space shuttle on the first click every time. Yes The first button press lights the flame every time with out fail. If you have ever used a butain lighter before you know that a torch that gets used extensively, daily, and still fires first click is something special. This is truely a masterpiece in the relm of hand held torches and I am so very glad I found it. I would put this torch up against any other torch and be confident that it will out last and out perform it. I have collected lighters for 20 years of my life and I think this is as close to perfection you can get when it comes to a fat blue cone hand torch. Just so you are aware this is adjustable in terms of power but it does lack the air adjustment to create a sooty or candle flame. However the flame it has is tuned to perfection and in my opinion any other flame would just be pointless compared to it. 4 years later... I ordered this in December 2014, it is now September 2018. The piezo ignition finally went out on this torch. That's over 4 years of using this torch for all kinds of jobs, hobbies, and stupid stuff that I don't want to talk about. 4 nearly 5 years and the spark died, the rest of the torch is still functioning perfectly. I can light it with the spark from one of my many dead lighters that I have had for less than a month and the sucker works perfectly. Same great flame it sported on day one. So I need to either mcguiver up a new ignition by canabalizing one of the dead lighters or buy a new one. but over 4 years and the flame still functions with no stutter, clog, or drop in performance this torch should get a standing ovation. I am now standing and clapping. March 2020 I bought another one of these and it is still just as well made and just a delight to use. I am no way affiliated with this brand or compensated whatsoever for what I am writing. I am just a torch aficionado or pyrophile (pyromaniac would imply mania, yes maybe pyrophile is not the best either) speaking from my many years using flame producing contraptions. I am offering you all the years of my experience with more torches than you could fathom. This is the highest quality torch of this type on the market today, as it was the highest quality torch on the market 6 years ago. You can get a torch for 15.00 sure, u will need to replace it in a week though. My last one of these lasted years, I have no doubt this one will do the same. Buy this torch and be happy and frustration free, when it comes to burning things anyway. Update: 12/21 Lost the torch when a friend was using it and somehow became forgetful... A few months laterI found it in the mud after a storm. 1st click from a torch out of the rain and mud and that 1 click started it up. It's like the Glock of torches. YOU WILL NOT FIND A TORCH MORE RELIABLE THAN THIS. I giving a new standing ovation from atop the table, whilst throwing roses upon the rösle! Update 10/1/22 I have been absolutely brutal to this torch. I have over the course of the last year I havetossed this torch in my work trucks uncovered bed and used it when needed. It has been under water in the rain and baked in the sun. IT STILL LIGHTS 1ST TRY, EVERYTIME! ... show more

  • 5 year warranty, not lifetime as advertised
The torch has a five year warranty, not lifetime like the Amazon description claims. The main reason I chose this torch over other highly-rated ones was due to the lifetime warranty, so this was a very important feature to me. Otherwise I would not have paid the high premium for this torch; it costs nearly twice as much as others with the same reviewer rating. I feel cheated. The torch works fine so far, but I have no basis for comparison, and I've only used it to heat 2 creme brulees. I would normally not write a review so quickly but I felt it important to report the warranty issue. The torch lights up immediately each time -- no need for multiple clicks. The flame rapidly melts sugar, the only thing I've used it for so far. There is a switch on the left side, conveniently located for a right-handed person's thumb, controlling whether the torch remains on continuously or whether you have to hold down the rear thumb button that also triggers the ignition. Be warned, if that switch is on when you fill the reservoir, butane will leak out while you fill it. That strikes me as odd, but that's what happened. Too bad about the warranty. Fingers crossed that I didn't waste my money on something that will not last. I paid twice what I could have to feel confident that this thing would last literally a lifetime. Update, 2014 Jan 19: I've continued to use this thing for a year now -- far more than just melting sugar. Still works as before. I wish its tank could hold more fuel. I now see why restaurants prefer other models which are basically torch-heads that mount directly to a large fuel tank. My only issue with those is that they seem to require proprietary fuel tanks, whereas this item can be recharged from more commonly available fuel tanks. But, since I'm not running a restaurant, this isn't, in practice, a major issue for me. ... show more

  • Push really hard on the starter button!
It's so cute, fits well into my hand, but is not that easy to use. I struggled to get it to fire. I read other reviews, followed their suggestions as best I could, and came very close to returning it as unusable. Then, in total frustration, I pushed extra hard on the starter button and flames flew out! Once I'd now learned to use it, it worked really well, torching swiss meringue beautifully. My advice is to take your frustrations out on the button and "make it work". Each time, you have to reset the safety catch, and press the starter button, then try to set the flame length, and/or set the hold button. I found these rather awkward, and require two hands to do. It does work, and does the job. ... show more

  • not quite the "feel" you'd like from Rosle
I have a whole lot of Rosle products - all feel pretty good in the hand and function well. The plastic parts of this torch don't feel up to the usual Rosle standards. The arm/fire device takes a bit of practice as you need to re-arm each time you want to strike a spark. (slow down pulling the trigger and it will likely light on the first go) unlike some other torches where you can pull the trigger several times until the flame catches. There is a "lock on" latch - reasonably convenient to manage with one hand. overall, better than some of the other kitchen torches I've used. I use a torch all the time for releasing cakes which have to be chilled before turning out of a pan - a quick pass on the bottom of the pan melts butter but does not impact the cake - and for a variety of minor tasks which require a quick blast of heat. If you use a torch rarely, save a lot of money by getting an inexpensive BernzOMatic shop torch and propane tank. You won't want to store it in the kitchen (too bulky) but it is just fine for occasional use - and if you need to solder some pipes, you're all set.... The kitchen torch is much more compact and handier to use in the kitchen. Worth buying if you will use it even once a month. ... show more
