Bought these after seeing an ad on social media and getting sick up buying the disposable pads. My chickens would destroy the other ones in a week or two scratching around in the box or breaking an egg. My chickens did not like the change at first and refused to lay eggs in the boxes. I actually had to put pieces of scrap lumber around the coop corners and other areas they started laying eggs. Took about a week for them to finally use the new pads and since have been working great. We originally tried the straw/grass pads but they were simply a mess and the hens would constantly pull the fluff out, leaving the eggs to crack on the wooden bottom of the roosting boxes. I really wanted to love these mats. But my Chickens still broke there eggs on them and it so hard to clean them out. If you don't get to the broken egg on a hot day it smells so bad. I wish they were easier to clean off. The pine shavings I have in the coop get into the mats an they don't come out. The one thing I did like about the mats was they were easy to cut to fit in the nesting boxes. ... show more

The plastic material is not soft enough. It’s easy to clean and makes the nesting box area much better however, if the ground is a little wet or damp, and then the chickens go in with their soft bottom of their feet, the plastic is hard enough to puncture through the skin and cause Bumblefoot. We have had chickens for a long time and as soon as we started using this product we had our first case. Treated to the chicken everything was fine. These are perfect for my omlet coop nesting box. I’ve had 2 in there for the past 4 months and even after weekly washing they’re holding up great. I’ve never had a broken egg.
