Mar 2023 update: I never got around to sealing it, or coating it like I want. But after multiple trips to Corpus, Rock Port, Port A, and Big Shell, shoot even a couple of trips up north and through rain and hail, and this basket held up greats and still going. This thing is tough! It is barely starting to rust in one spot, and that was my fault. My tackle box scratched the factory coating off. No biggie, I sanded the area and just spot treated it. Even after multiple runs through a brushless car wash, or washed here at home with the south Texas hard water and still has not heavily rusted. Just the small spot I mentioned above. So I have to say, this thing is an absolute best buy. In my opinion, just as good as the name brands, but no where near as expensive. I also came in handy as an extra strapping spot for our Tent. Assembly took me about 30 minutes, and attaching it to my roof rack was easy! Structure is strong, black powder coat is great, but thin. Wind noise is expected, but does not make a loud howling sounds like some mention on here ( at least not mine). Brackets to attach to the rack are nice and sturdy, and easy to assemble. I contacted customer service because of the rust reviews that got me worried, and they are fast to respond. They told me the rack does have 6 Mos of warranty, and if the rust is an issue, to just simply paint the jointed areas of the basket but I’m gonna just sand it, seal it, and paint the whole deal in a coat of undercoating. Overall, this product is good bang for your buck and less expensive than the bigger brands. So I don’t mind doing a bit of work to make it last longer. With materials a six of Shiner, a shot of whiskey and I still spent a whole lot less than the name brands and had fun from start to finish. Hope this review helps. Update: loaded up the cargo carrier and went to Big Shell beach and was having some fun in the sand and splashing some water while driving, and this thing held up great. Now granted I still have not sealed it and it still has not gotten rusted. However, I did take it off and wash it the next day. It also has been raining a bit here in San Antonio, and I still don’t see any rust. Hope this helps. ... show more

    • Bizarre directions

While I like the carrier and how it sits on my car, the directions were absolutely bazaar. They show the carrier completely backwards from the directions. When you put it together, do not go by the pictures in the directions as they show the connectors to the car completely reversed from how they are supposed to attach. The base connectors do not go on top inside the carrier, but below! And, do not use the large twist on bolts. I reversed mine to go below and I went out ah purchased stainless nut stops so that they will tighten down and never slip off due to the car's vibration. ... show more

This is our first roof rack. Chose this + a roof bag for our Outback because it will fit in most hotel parking garages, whereas a hard rooftop carrier would be too tall. There definitely is noticeable road noise with the rack (with or without the bag) but I can't imagine a different rack being less noisy. Since it's easy to remove we take it off when we're not on a trip or doing college move-in for the kids. Saw a suggestion from another review to apply 3x shrink tubing to all joints when assembling. This keeps water from getting inside and rusting, and then dripping rust water on your vehicle. You'll need 3/4 and 1" tubing and a heat gun. A hair dryer didn't really generate enough heat to seal it. ... show more

The product is very easy to assemble and fit on my Subaru outback perfectly. I completed about seven hours of driving with not more than 150 pounds in the carrier and it was great They provide a bag for keeping items dry in the rain. Unfortunately sliding things around inside the bag is difficult because the bag lining is such a high friction surface. They provide a gray anti-slip under carpet type of material that perhaps is meant to line the bag I’ll try that next time. The cargo net is great ... show more

The best purchase ever! This rack was very easy to assemble. I had no issue with holes matching up. I used flex seal at the seams and screw holes when I assembled in case of rusting. However, the powder coat finish seems to be sufficient. Once assembled, there is a small gap in the bars in the middle section. I was convinced I did it wrong but that’s right. Install on my vehicle was also very easy and instructions were clear. The cargo basket fit perfectly on my 2017 JGC on an OEM Jeep roof rack also purchased on Amazon for less than Mopar. It held up very well on a trip over Christmas break to the cabin even when it rained for two days straight. I prob had 100lbs of cargo strapped in. My FAVORITE part about this particular cargo basket is the solid black wind guard which allowed me to apply a personalized logo to it and also THE FREE TIE DOWNS/RATCHET STRAP KIT!!!! Do not forget to add it to your order and use the code they give. The hardware really lets this whole thing down. Absolutely shambolic plastic nuts and crummy washers. This will rust. Put it on, use it, take it back off.
