I bought this rack to give us extra space for gear when heading to the beach. The soft box that came with it is actually water tight. We just drove back in the rain and everything in the bag stayed dry. The material reminds me of the yellow rubberized rain coats when had as kids in the 70's. It has a very good zipper plus Velcro strips to keep it closed. The straps fasten easily to the raised rail and keep it secure. It does come with other tie down straps to use when not using the provided bag. We did not use them, but they seem to be of good quality and are very similar to what i already have for securing things like our kayaks in the truck bed. The welds appear to be quality and it was light enough for me to carry into our hotel room so it could be removed and not be in the way at the beach. The separation from the back of my jeep gladiator was large enough that the tail gate could be lowered with the rack full of gear. Very surprising feature from my point of view. It went together easily, but the one thing to remember is to bring the wrench you use to secure the anti rattle bracket with you if you want to remove it. I have had several similar racks in the past, and this one seems to on of the best built and designed. The raised rail around the base is a big plus. I would definitely buy this product again and will recommend it to others. I would suggest they update their manual to show how to use thread the straps through the connectors. I knew how to do it because I have used these types of straps before, to others with less experience, they could be difficult to properly thread. We drove from Texas to Canada... It is very sturdy... The bag holds quite a bit. It had a large suitcase and 4 carry on bags with plenty of room. The bag is completely waterproof. It rained one night and everything was completely dry. I did a lot of research prior to purchasing. I felt more comfortable with the higher sides on this items as we drove from Canada to down south and home again. We occasionally switched the back camera on while driving to keep watch... We had no problems at all. Mind you we only took one trip with it so far. Time will tell, however, it's been great thus far. Highly recommend. I recommend purchasing with the bag as well. It holds a lot and easier than tarping it. ... show more

This is a great rack for the price. It assembles easily and is sturdy enough to carry a lot of camping gear. I attached it to the factory crossbars on my 2019 Subaru Outback. No issues at all. All you need is a Phillips screwdriver to assemble. Remember to put the rubber gaskets on before you screw it together. Once you place the screw, just twist the gasket over the screw. It comes with an extension section, which I didn't use because the two pieces are enough for my needs. Comes with a hook net and ratchet straps as well. Update: My only minor complaint is that this rack is painted gloss black. It's too shiny. Almost all other racks you see are flat black. I'm going to buy a can of of flat black spray paint and do a quick re-paint job. ... show more

    • Works very well, cargo net is honestly a little too big.
From the moment I opened the box tot he moment it was on my roof was like 30-45mins. VERY easy to assemble. Some people have mentioned that the center (extension) piece was two separate pieces but mine was only one piece. Very sturdy, I don't know how weak the paint is but I'm not worried about rust or sun-bleaching. I haven't tested the ratchet straps yet. Very good for the price. The cargo net is my only complaint, I ordered a separate one. The holes in the net are probably 3"x3". The net is very loose and is about the size of the basket when EXTENDED. Would definitely be too big for the basic basket size. I carry camping stuff such as backpacking tent, mattress, chairs. I have had my tent fly off a basket before with a net of similar tension so I'm not risking it with this net. If you are carrying bigger things such as heavier chairs, coolers, or a mini fridge, then there is no way something like that will fit through the net holes... but the holes stretch to maybe 6"x6" and some light stuff would fit through there. Great basket though, amazing price, good size, just recommend a different net! ... show more

The rack itself seems legit and the waterproof bag is a plus. But it seems the mounting hardware that tightens to the crossbar seems not tight enough. Has some play in the bracket to the basket. Shook the basket and it seems fine. No play there. It was still loose so I had to use vise grips to keep spinning the special nuts to snug it down. Took a lot of effort to install. And the top caps to the threads wasn't sitting in enough, so I had to use tape (pictured above) to make sure it wouldn't fly off. I would leave it off but I don't want it to rust the threads. Wish there were better installation instructions especially explaining how tight the brackets should be and if there should be any play. Heading up to reno this weekend of 1/19/24 so we will see how it does. ... show more

We travelled from Colorado down the Baja to Cabo San Lucas. The cargo carrier was easy to install. we were able to load it up, secure it, and drive over 35 hours without an issue. It was quiet and weatherproof. Great product
