  • Great, Affordable Speakers With Solid Bass.
Size: 6 x 9 Inch Pattern: Coaxial Speaker
[3/23/2015, 3 days of ownership] Whilst I am unable to comment on the durability of these speakers, I would like to review the rest of them, as I have had them installed for 3 days now, and have had a decent level of experience with them and different ranges of audio to test how they perform. I will update this review in 3 months time, and then again in a years time to give updates on the quality, durability and to see if anything has changed over the time. These speakers are phenomenal and are available here on amazon for a bargain of a price. They can be found at Crutchfield.com for $69.99 instead of the $53 that I picked them up here on Amazon, which is a significant difference, however I do believe that when bought here on Amazon, these do not come with any warranty or support from Pioneer, as Amazon is not a certified retailer of their products, so that, coupled with the glorious customer support and free mounting brackets if needed, from Crutchfield, may be worth it in your situation. You must decide what's best for you. For me, however, it was price mostly. Firstly, I installed these in my 2003 Honda Civic EX Coupe, in the rear deck. They fit without any brackets or modifications. Coupled with some Metra Speaker Connector Harnesses, the installation for these was a total breeze. The cones are made of a nice durable-feeling polymer/plastic material that feels like it will not age poorly like many speaker cones. They also are stiff, but will flex when force is applied, giving them that nice "punchy" sound to most bass noises. The surround is made of a very rubbery and very flexible material that looks as though it would cut easily, given the right circumstances. The magnet on them is quite large and really give the impression these speakers are going for. The spider in in center looks high-quality and seems to be made of a hard fabric material. The tweeters are installed into the center of the woofers, at the very bottom of the cone. This is nice because (assuming these speakers are going into the rear of your vehicle), you don't want the highs going right into the passengers ears in the backseats. The grills that are included are a nice touch, and cover the entire cone and surround, and are very sturdy, although 9 times out of 10, you can't keep the grills on the speaker when you install them into a vehicle because there is no room for them unless you modify the interior panels of the vehicle. For specifications, I purchased the 6x9" speakers, which are 2-way speakers. They have a 65W RMS power handling, with a maximum nominal value of 130W. Frequency Response: 48Hz to 20kHz. Sensitivity: 90dB Impedence: 4 Ohms They have a mounting depth of 2.85" (72.4mm). As far as audio quality goes, these guys really do their job. I have these coupled with Pioneer TS-A1675R 6 1/2" speakers in the front door panels, 2 factory tweeters in either door pillar and a Pioneer DEH-X3500UI head unit (which has a built-in MOSFET 50W RMS amplifier), and they sound pretty great to say the least. I did have an issue with installation, as I didn't have a ratchet that would fit down into the ABS plastic that is on top of the surround on the top of the speaker frame, so I decided to modify the speakers and I took the ABS plastic piece off. This piece has adhesive underneath it, between it and the top of the surround, and if you pull too hard towards the center of the speaker, you will pull the surround off of the frame and un-adhere the surround from the frame, leaving gaps. I didn't make hardly any gaps in the surround adhesion, and the mounting screws held the surround down and a foam circle on the underside of the rear deck panel also helped hold the surround down, so I believe that isn't an issue. Just be warned, unless you can get ahold of some screws with a alan wrench head or phillips or flathead, you probably can't fit a ratchet socket down into the mounting notches in the plastic on the outer edge. In regards to the audio quality, don't forget that these aren't the only speakers I'm hearing, as I have the other 4 speakers I mentioned in the paragraph directly above this one. These speakers were really one of very few options I had for the rear deck of my vehicle, due to the fact that the bar that holds the trunk lid upright runs directly horizontally underneath the speaker mounting locations, meaning that I couldn't get anything that had a much bigger mounting depth than this, without risk of it not fitting, it touching the bar, or having to modify the trunk bar or something. You don't really need 3-way speakers in the rear of a vehicle, due to the fact that most people prefer to have the rear speakers handle the bass of the music they're listening to and have the front handle the mids and highs of the music, so these work perfectly in that regard. They have a nice sub-bass and bass sound, contrary to the fact that their frequency response is actually a bit more limited than many of the speakers I have seen, which was surprising. They put out some very solid bass response with the head unit amp power of about 14W RMS for each speaker, and fill in the mid and highs quite nicely for rear speakers and for 2-way speakers at that. There was only one single issue I had with them. Occasionally, if the head unit is on Super Bass EQ, or has Bass Boost up or a combination of the two or sometimes even on particular songs, when a bass sound goes through the speaker, it will vibrate a little immediately after the bass is finished, making a small rattling noise. After consulting an audio specialist at Crutchfield.com, he said that it likely was NOT due to the fact that I very slightly damaged the surround adhesive, but it was most likely that they aren't getting enough power as they should, so keep this in mind when considering this for a vehicle without an amplifier (but I'm sure it will still sound much better than factory speakers). All-in-all, I am very happy with my choice in speakers, as these perform very well, and give the responsiveness I was looking for. -------------------------------------------------------- [8/24/2015, 5 months after ownership] Alright, after having had these bad boys in my car for 5 months (and a day to be exact), I think I can safely say that I am certainly happy with my decision. These are absolutely perfect for the front doors of a car such as mine (2003 2-door Honda Civic). These provide a great low-end to the overall sound of the system and really brings out the bass from the Pioneers in the front door panels. They still perform as well as they did when I installed them and everything operates just fine. I still have no amp connected to any of my speakers, although I will be purchasing a subwoofer to install into the trunk soon. These are perfect for some low end noise to your car audio experience, they provide some great all around sound quality, but their lows are impressive for a speaker with no amp connected. By no means would I consider them audiophile quality, but they are lightyears ahead of the stock speakers you'll find in your factory car. They do, however, cause my some rattling in the trunk space area, but I've managed to muffle most of it, and that is no fault of the speaker itself. Still a solid purchase. -------------------------------------------------------- [5/10/2016. 1 year, 2 months after ownership] Still going strong. No issues at extremely loud volumes. After working on soundproofing some more of the car, they certainly sound great. Still recommend these. ... show more

  • Works so well I bought 'em again
Size: 6.5-Inch Pattern: Coaxial Speaker
So, just to be clear, these are a replacement for OEM - they are not a very significant improvement although they are an improvement for sure. First of all, what a deal for 3-way component speakers. While the trade-off is lower wattage, there are few scenarios in which you'd need speakers that can handle more within a car. Of course, that doesn't stop people from busting their eardrums out, but hey. In terms of audio quality, it's perfectly sufficient in comparison to OEM. While I am an audio enthusiast, and while they're a far cry from perfect, I was shocked at how well they worked for the price. At high levels there was only mild interference, it hit the various low/mid/high fairly accurately compared to my benchmark of a ATH-M50 being hardware that has perfect balance. Treble was of course, the only exception as it did get a little grating with some of the challenging high sounds played loudly such as violins and similar sounds, but for someone who doesn't have tinnitus, it's of little concern for me. I initially got my first pair to replace the first two door speakers on my Saturn Ion because...well if you don't have fancy trim they drop the cheapest things that won't break until it's out of warranty. To their credit, they never did die completely, but being a one-way speaker they were always particularly bad at accurately reproducing bass and treble and were decent on mids. While the mids only got slightly better when I replaced OEM, there was a good deal of improvement in the lows and highs, which while expected of a 3-way component speaker, the thing unexpected was that it delivered this for only $20 per speaker. So, over a year later, I'm replacing the two rear speakers as well. I considered buying more expensive ones now that I have more cash on hand, but these worked so perfectly that I didn't bother. ... show more

  • Pretty good for the price.
Size: 6.5-Inch Pattern: Coaxial Speaker
very good, of course better than oem, I threw these in my 2006 scion xb. I did the dumb mistake stabbing the cover covering the cone and it wripped!!! THE THING IS THEY STILL SOUND REALLY GOOD. I havent got any water damage, I had my window leak for about a week into owning the speakers. I fixed the issue but thats besides the point. I appreciate the quality of the speakers. They may not be the best because of the power my car is drawing to them. I do also have 4 subwoofers in the cargo area !!! LOL anyways. If youre looking for something good for this amount id definitely recommend these. They dont come with a bracket for cars that need it but its very easy to install without it on my end. Thanks rockford for doing your part, I like your subwoofers better , im running them right now. ... show more

  • Second pair, just as good
Size: 6.5-Inch Pattern: Coaxial Speaker
I bought these to replace my worn out door speakers for my 2013 Civic sedan and they sound fantastic. I had a set of these for my 09 Civic as well and they are still just as good. Amazing sound upgrade over factory.

  • Nice upgrade for $40
Size: 6.5-Inch Pattern: Coaxial Speaker
What can I say, I've been using Rockford Fosgate stuff since somewhere around 1988-89. They've always made great speakers and amplifiers and these are no different. It's been quite a while since I purchased any kind of upgrade for a factory stereo and these did exactly what I needed them to do. I've had my 2003 Toyota Tundra Access Cab for 3 years and have always just run the factory speakers because they sounded decent enough. I decided to upgrade just the rear to see how good it would sound with the idea of maybe adding more in the future. These seemed like a good basis of a fairly modest system where I just fill all the factory locations with decent speakers and run every thing off the factory amp. Nothing too complicated and I'm not entering in to any audio competitions anytime soon, so I don't need to go all in. I decided on the 3-way coaxial 6.5" over the 2-way because I wanted the extra mid-range coming from the rear of the truck. As far as what Amazon recommends for a 2003 Tundra in the rear door locations, get the 6.75" and not the 6.5" like I did. I'm okay with my decision to have gone with the 6.5" but three scree holes match up with the factory locations and one has to be screwed in on the exterior of the speaker's metal rim. It's okay for me, I managed to deal with it accordingly. The 6.75" is the same speaker just in a little bit larger circular mounting ring to give you a few more options. This should have been my choice, but, again, I am perfectly happy with the 3-Way over the 2-Way. I also used fiber fill to take up space inside the door panel. Specs call for .46 cubic feet of VAS. There must be at least a solid 2+ cubic feet in a Tundra rear door. They're cavernous with no real obstructions, just an internal support/structure rail. I filled the void and it definitely helped keep those cones under control at higher volumes. These are also 4 Ohm compared to the factory 6 Ohm speakers. That means they're seeing a little more power than what the others were. I had discovered that the left rear factory speaker was blown and I had hoped it wasn't an amp channel. Turns out it *was* a blown factory speaker and the difference is incredible. I was thinking of getting sub for under the seat but I'm seriously considering not doing that now. Sound dampening in the doors along with two fresh poly 6.5 cones provides more than enough low end in a truck cab for an aging car audio enthusiast like me. It makes me want to invest in the two way component system for the doors, swap those out and call it good. Nice job, Rockford, for providing an affordable, quality upgrade option. Highly recommended and would buy again! ... show more

  • Not high end speakers, but SO much better than others in this price range!
Size: 6.5-Inch Pattern: Coaxial Speaker
So I have a toy, a second car that I like to tinker with; Chevy Tracker. Don't spend much money on it, not worth spending much on. In any case, the speakers were blown on it when I got it and the original stereo was junk even in new condition. So I had a really nice JVC DVD Receiver from an old car of mine, paid $300. Pretty nice, 22rms out of the speakers. I also had a left over subwoofer. Just needed speakers. So I got four of the Kenwood KFC-1665S. Not sure I'm an audiophile, but I like music, have had Infinity speakers in a car before, but I didn't expect much from the Kenwoods given the price. Put them in and the first thing I notice was no vocals. I thought it could be location, the door speakers are all the way towards the floor. The bass was good from the subwoofer, but I would really crank these and the vocals just weren't there. Thinking the location was an issue, I bought a cheap but decent pair of tweeters. After that, when I turned it up high enough to hear some vocals, all I got were shrieking highs. So now I had bass and high treble, but little in between. I kept going into my wife's car which had the factory Infinity speakers and thinking "I know it's not going to be this good, but I should be able to hear the singing. So I did some research and, still not wanting to spend much more money, found the Rockford Fosgate R165X3. Reading the specs, they were obviously better size and materials; they had a rubber surround instead of phone. However, was it the location, could I do any better. Well, at $34, I decided to give them a try. As soon as I pulled them out of the box and compared them with the Kenwood I just pulled out, you could tell a huge different. The Rockford Fosgates (RFs) are technically 6-3/4 compared to the Kenwoods "6-1/2", but unlike the Kenwoods, the RFs used every inch of the space for the woofer. I remember when I opened the Kenwoods thinking they were really 5-1/4 in a 6-1/2 frame. Anyways, I hooked one side up. WOW, what a difference! The vocals were there. Even better, that "thwat, thwat, thwat" sound you hear in really tight rock or metal was there. I put the other one in and just sat there going "wow, what a difference!" The "wows" continued when I was driving the car with my daughters and/or wife in the car. I, of course, don't turn it up as loud. But before, where all I could hear was cymbals and bass (from the subwoofer), I could hear the words and still hear everyone else. Do yourself a favor, spend a few more bucks on the Rockford Fosgate R165X3 if they fit! ... show more
