  • Couldn't Be Happier! Bass is plenty, and highs are surreal!
Size: 6x8 inches Pattern: Speaker
Best Thump-Bump for the money. I'm a bit of an audiophile but won't spend $$$ for extreme sound when these are affordable and sound amazing. Clear highs sound truly separated from the underlying bass line in a way that I've actually never heard in any of my friend's cars and is even hard to reproduce in a home surround system. You have to hear it to fully understand but you can have more bass and still hear the lyrics clearer and crisper than ever before. I actually turned my treble down a little at first because the tweeter and mid range was really standing out. Once I got them equalized on my aftermarket 16w RMS stereo it sounds great (Cheap Dual 5" screen stereo, I wouldn't recommend it unless you keep the WallyWord receipt to swap it out when it breaks early). After turning the bass up and mids down a few dB, the treble can be turned up just fine. I always turn mids down some, it's not the speakers. The cymbal hits were so crisp I could hear the cymbals resonating as they faded away over a strong bass line, like in real life. Yep, I was saying wow. I only have the front speakers installed so far and even with poor quality original rears the 2 front 6x8" Fosgates seem to put out as much bass as my factory 8" amplified sub, and they are punchier, more accurate sounding with a very satisfying rumble. However, for balanced sound I would recommend having an 8 or 10" sub. No reason to overdo the sub but it does add depth. This doesn't mean the speakers are weak and require a sub, in fact most people would be satisfied with the bass provided by 4 Fosgate Punches - at least using the 6x8 size. The cone is concave and exterior build quality is outstanding. I expect them to last. I did extensive research on all types of door speakers and spent a little more for these, glad I did. Further Review and Thoughts: My factory speakers are molded into a small box and these are just installed freely inside the door frame, I can definitely feel the sound resonating inside that un-tuned door. They would sound better with a small enclosure, maybe ported, but buidling / installing that would be tricky unless you use something like a Boom Mat speaker baffle (never tried them but probably helpful if it fits properly - see reviews). If anyone has used them with these speakers please comment, I suspect porting would do best since they are moving some air. I'm really excited to install the rears! Very easy to install and in the 05 Explorer the door panels couldn't be easier to remove. Cost wise you might be surprised what your factory speakers are selling for used on eBay. I can hopefully get enough to offset half my cost. These aren't designed to be turned way up to 11, you need something with higher RMS wattage for that but they are loud. Trust me, I doubt you'll return these for audio reasons nor want to upgrade after you get them equalized properly. If your stereo is factory, upgrade that first for best sound. I'm telling everyone to come sit and listen to at least 30 seconds of music. I used dielectric grease on the connectors but check to see if your car's wires have oxidized, mine had a black coating on the copper wire even tho it was stripped 3" back from the connector. This could affect transmission so I used a pocket knife to quickly scrape that off and make it shiny before attaching my blade connectors. Crimp them tight and check polarity! I needed small washers on the factory screw heads so they wouldn't dig into the mounting holes but hardware and clips are provided. I took the install opportunity to clean and spray my door hinges with white lithium grease and clean the door seams and window track. A window motor can last inevitably longer if dust and grit aren't causing resistance. Real-World Technical Aspects: Prices can't be beaten, pick up a couple sets, generally for best sound use the same speakers in all 4 doors. The magnet was strong in these by the way, that's a very good sign. I wouldn't worry about the mediocre sensitivity specs, it's not quite 90 dB or higher but the volume loudness was fine even with a relatively underpowered head unit. The frequency range also sounded full to me, I could hear and feel the low frequency lows very well and obviously they are producing the highs in blissful abundance. The crossover works beautifully to separate the frequencies and send them to the proper component. I assume this is one aspect where Rockford Fosgate's engineering is superior to lesser brands. My car came with premium sound, 2-way door speakers and a factory 8" sub but this fills the car with sound, blowing the old speakers out of the water and onto an eBay listing! ... show more

  • Great Value and Deep Bass
Size: 6x8 inches Pattern: Speaker
Looks amazing, great price for the quality. Very clear sound, no distortion at 55watts. Great sound. Fit as a factory replacement for my 2001 Grand Marquis. I will say you need to use a larger clip for the speaker leads if you’re using an adapter to go from the speaker to the factory style plug. Speaker leads are larger. I soldered mine. ... show more

  • Highly recommend!
Size: 6.75 inches Pattern: Speaker
Definitely some high quality speakers. I previously had 2ohm 4x6 infinity kappas in my doors and some infinity reference 4x6s behind the seat in my Kenworth dump truck and my head unit couldn’t handle that low resistance without clipping after 2 songs. I put these 4x6s in the front and some 5.25s in the back and can’t believe the difference. They’re extremely loud but crystal clear at the same time but do lack bass. Of the other sets I’ve tried these 4x6’s are the only ones I’ve had a hard time mounting as you can see in the picture they're a little tight and don’t line up perfect but overall I couldn’t be happier. They feel rugged and the terminals don’t bend easily like most. They’re a little pricey but compared to most in this class I feel like some are just a little better than others unless you’re putting power to them. Edit: After a year I since have installed a Taramps 400.1 running 4ohm at around 60 watt rms and they’re a completely different speaker. Still not going to be heavy bass speakers but I have a 10in jl 10tw3 for that. My semi truck now sounds just as good as my car with a factory Bose system with a 12in sub if not better. Even with the gain cranked up I can literally max out my volume and get no clipping or distortion it’s just so loud your ears bleed lol. I’ve had a set of the 6.75s in my pickup truck running of head unit power for 4 years and they’re also loud and clear but still lack a little bass. These have been my go to and don’t regret it at all. If you’re not happy with the performance add a 4 channel and I think you’d be more than happy. ... show more

  • I had two Series One amps that I POUNDED the ever loving crap out of
Size: 5.25 inches Pattern: Speaker
I was skeptical of these at first. These "Punch" speakers are not the "Punch" that I grew up with as a teenager. You have to get into the "Power" series to get to the kind of quality that the Punch series used to be. These new Punch speakers seem to me to be where the old Series One equipment used to be at. And that is saying something, because Series One back in the day was a really solid product in its own right. I had two Series One amps that I POUNDED the ever loving crap out of. You could often fry eggs on top of them, and they just kept working. Best amp I ever owned was a Punch 75 and a Punch 150. Good times,,, good times. But anyhow. The punch speakers were cheap price wise. And I am not the teenager that I once was. I replaced the factory speakers in a new to me 2011 GMC Sierra, running off the factory deck these are the rear replacements. It's a bit of a story how I ended up here to start with. I started out with a matched set of JBL GTO xx8 speakers, 6.5" components front and 5.25" coaxial in the back. But the 5.25" GTO's are 3 series old and the seller sold out and didn't have anymore. I could not find them on Amazon and was not interested in ordering anywhere else. So I turned to Rockford Fosgate and found these. I tried to find a matching set of components for the front. The ones I wanted,,,,, nope can't be had on Amazon, at least at the time I ordered. Thus I ended up with JBL's in the front and these in the back running of Stock Deck Power. These are mated with A 10” Kicker truck box that has its own on board amp. It's just a little guy, I am not sure Kicker even makes this model anymore. But it fits the bill. I had Best Buy install the stuff for me and to my utter surprise, the Best Buy Tech that did the install actually has a clue what he is doing. He did an excellent job. I have never owned a stereo that I could play at full volume. But with a little bit of tuning, and to my amazement, I can turn this factory deck all the way up and the music is crisp and clear without distortion. I never new a factory deck could sound so good. It really sounds very good to my ear, given what it is. The JBL and Fosgate speakers sound really good given how much the cost and the factory deck. I mean it. Really good. One thing that I will tell you however. When I turn off my truck and remove the key, the sub powers off, and the stereo keeps going until you open the door. Once that sub goes out, a hole in the sound stage opens up large enough to fit my whole truck through. You don't expect much base out of these size speakers, especially for the price. These are by no means my old Boston Acoustic pro's. But holy crow was I stunned at how little base they have together. Without the sub filling in the sound stage, these speakers alone don't sound bad, they are clean and clear. But they certainly need a sub to go with them. DO NOT expect to get base out of these to any degree. You will not be happy. Got to have some kind of sub solution. I would buy these again and I am totally happy with the combination in my truck. A HUGE step above stock. One final note though. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought these in the component variant instead of coaxial. I think it would have sounded even that much better. ... show more

  • Disappointed at first, but then...wow!
Size: 6x8 inches Pattern: Speaker
I put 4 of these in my F350 hoping to get some more mids and highs than the junk factory speakers powered off the head unit and not an Amp. I didn’t buy these for earth shattering bass as I planned to add a 10” sub after I resolved my mid and high issue. Installation was a breeze, turned on the Pioneer AVH-2500NEX and was like how can they sound worse?? Horrible crackling and clipping under medium volume. I almost pulled them and returned them but figured I would reset all of the previously saved audio settings first and start anew. I brought everything flat, no bass boost, no loudness, EQ flat. I got into the crossover setting and turned on the HPF to limit and immediately noticed a much cleaner sound. From there I began adjusting the EQ one at a time. I would turn the volume up listen for distortion and adjust accordingly. I spent about 2 hours doing this with various songs (rock, hip hop, electronic, alternative and country)...Sorry neighbors 😬. Once I felt like I had each EQ band set to my liking I cranked it up and holy cow. The highs are crystal clear, the mids are crisp and perfect, the lows are there but like I said not great, however there is zero distortion. Last weekend I added a 10” self powered sub by Cerwin Vega (also purchased here) and wow, I literally wouldn’t do anything different. My buddy who is a huge audiophile (spent over 8k on stereo for his boat) could not believe the amount of sound and clarity that came out of these speakers and my set up. He is now looking at the exact same set up for his truck (which has a factory Bose) as this sounds way better. If you aren’t willing to spend the time to fine tune the speakers or don’t have the knowledge, look at a different speaker. But if you know how to tune and are willing to take the time to make those adjustments, you can’t go wrong for the money!! ... show more
