Simply stand on the base plate, lift the plunger and demolish whatever you have in the cylinder. Feature: Both the shaft and hammer are made of high strength solid steel, coated with black finish for extra rust and corrosion resistant. The inside pipe diameter is approximately 2.1 inches wide. The hammer/pounder weighs approximately 4 lbs. The bottom plate is 1/2 inch thick, so it is not going to wear out. Operation: 1. Put crusher between your legs. 2. Step on base with foot. 3. Put rock into tube to crush. 4. Inset plunger into tube, and drop to the bottom. 5. Lift plunger to top of tube push down with some force to hit the rock. (Repeat as necessary.)     • Takes several attempts to crush 5mm opal to 1-2mm
All in all, this device is a handy way to crush various stones and gems. However I thought it would do a better job. When it comes to opals, a very soft stone, I expected that a couple of bangs would do the trick. However, I need to go in and bang it a few times, sift, put the larger pieces back in, bang it again, and do this 4 or 5 times on roughly 50 grams of material. On harder material, like raw ruby, it's a lot more work. (Ruby is a 9 on the hardness scale and opal around a 5) Even still, it is a better approach than using heavy duty foil, pie tins, etc. And the material is contained well inside the cylinder. Bam, Bam, Bam goes the hammer, out comes frit. Great upper back workout. I was able to process about 30 lbs. of frit with this. You will probably want to get a set of filters to go with it.

    • Gets the job done
Does the job well. I find it works better if i drop the pestle, give it a quarter turn, lift it and drop again. The dust at the bottom gets packed so I use a stick to clean it every now and then.

    • It is best for a small amount of ore or rock to crush
It works good to crush ore it was smaller then I had it pictured and it takes a lot of work so it is best only for sampling of ore not a large amount

Man I'm so disappointed. The device is much aer than it looks. Literally you can only put in a small piece of rock, one rock and that's it. PAIN, BE READY FOR THE PAIN The handle is so PAINFUL. MY hands are killing me and I haven't broken the 1st little rock I put in it. I'm only keeping it because I destroyed shipping label opening the thing up. GF is going to use it as a planter for a something As I'm waiting for the pain to go away. I'm looking at the 10, 5gallon buckets of rocks I have to crush up and thinking. No WAY!!! ... show more
