During processing, it's important to keep the birds as still as possible. If these cones were slightly longer, it would prevent a "jerking" bird from popping back out the top. But for the most part, they worked well. Certainly better than milk cartons!

    • NOT for Cornish Cross Chickens!
Ten week old Cornish Cross Chickens are too big for these cones. They are made well. We may use these for some of our smaller chickens, but if you're processing Cornish Cross, go for a bigger size.

These cones are cheaply made. It was a horrible harvesting experience for the birds and my family. The birds did not fit in the cones properly. (Only a 4-5lb dresses bird) Not only did you have to reach up in the cone to pull their heads down, they could also back out of the cones, landing on the ground to flail around and break wings. Horrific!! Now, since I’ve returned them because they were completely defective, no matter the size of the bird...they only refunded 15.95. Nice set but doesn't work for Cornish. We need to purchase the L ones as they were able to jump out of these.

We used them for our first butchering. I should have gone with the better quality but it is a fight to keep the headless chickens in the cone. Our chickens avg about 7lbs and the larger cone we have trouble getting their heads out. Maybe it is good for heritage breeds but not for jumbo cornish crosses. ... show more

    • It's a chicken slaughter cone.
It's a slaughter cone. We got the medium sized ones for our cornish cross meat chickens. They were almost too small and we butchered almost a week early. Over all they got the job done. I'd like to see maybe a larger opening for the heads to come through. I'd also like to see less angle on the opening where the body goes and build in something (a piece of wire) to hold the feet to keep from being scratched. ... show more
