It's a slaughter cone. We got the medium sized ones for our cornish cross meat chickens. They were almost too small and we butchered almost a week early. Over all they got the job done. I'd like to see maybe a larger opening for the heads to come through. I'd also like to see less angle on the opening where the body goes and build in something (a piece of wire) to hold the feet to keep from being scratched. ... show more

During processing, it's important to keep the birds as still as possible. If these cones were slightly longer, it would prevent a "jerking" bird from popping back out the top. But for the most part, they worked well. Certainly better than milk cartons!

    • NOT for Cornish Cross Chickens!
Ten week old Cornish Cross Chickens are too big for these cones. They are made well. We may use these for some of our smaller chickens, but if you're processing Cornish Cross, go for a bigger size.

We used them for our first butchering. I should have gone with the better quality but it is a fight to keep the headless chickens in the cone. Our chickens avg about 7lbs and the larger cone we have trouble getting their heads out. Maybe it is good for heritage breeds but not for jumbo cornish crosses. ... show more

Not good for Jumbo Cornish croos birds. but has to work well for fryer hens!
