It’s been two days and it has been great. Simple enough and automatic. The cable is peck-proof and works great. Temp outside the coop has been 27F (-3C) and my chickens have perfectly temped water. I have left it plugged in for two days and my chickens have never been happier in winter. It's the first really freezing week we have here in NH, and the water in the 2 gallon metal waterer was completely frozen after 1 day. I thought at first that there was an electrical problem in the supply but I tested the plug with another appliance and it worked. Perfect—well, almost, but not its fault. It arrived on time. This is the only heater I've gotten that works like a charm. It worked even when temperatures went the lowest I've seen here. I would recommend this to anyone using plastic five-gallon bucket waterers. Just make sure your water spouts or cups(as in my case) are high enough that they don't get held open. ... show more

I am so happy with this water heater. We live in PA where we don’t need it most of the year but we definitely can’t get through the winters without. Heat source to keep the water from freezing. I have tried so many heater options. I’ve had heaters that go directly in the water but burn up when the water gets low. I’ve tried the waterers that have a heated base but they fill from the bottom and dump water on you when you flip them. I’ve even tried similar bases but they were only good for metal waterers that rust quickly. For small flock owners that struggle with freezing water, this is worth it. A lot of the bad reviews are related to the item not arriving and it’s not really a reflection of the product. I have a six gallon plastic waterer and this keeps it flowing for my girls. It does freeze towards the top but melts in time so that they never without water. I love this heater because it allows me to use the same waterer and only store the heater in warmer months. ... show more

I bought this on November 30, 2024 and it has already stopped working. It didn’t even last 6 weeks. It is zero degrees here and I have to go out and break up the ice in my waterer every 4 hours.

I've had this heater for about a month now and it's been really nice. We have a plastic water dispenser for our chickens and it has kept the water from freezing in temperatures of about 15 degrees F so far. I just have it up on a flat brick to keep it out of the mud/snow and it's been great.
