Why did you pick this product vs others?: Used this waterer for an entire winter and it held up well. It's well put together with no issues after six months of use. The rubber fill plug is very firm and seals perfectly. Had a week of sub-zero temperatures this past winter, including overnight lows that averaged -7 degrees, and the water never froze. ... show more

This review is for the heated chicken water with lid and nipples. I've been using this for about 6 months. I wanted to put it through a few real-world experiences before I gave it a review. I've purchased a number of water heaters for the chickens over the years and they never seem to work. This one does! This week the low was -14F with a windchill of -35F and the nipples did not freeze up. I test them every morning and night. The lid did freeze shut but that was ok for my purposes. The heated water is inside an unheated/un-insulated coop. The water stays clean and the chickens don't roost on the lid. The lid has never come off. I don't hang it, it's just sitting on a few pieces of lumber. I love the fact that I can take a gallon of water out during the week when it needs to be topped off and just remove the lid and pour. No water spilling or messing around flipping the waterer over. I give this product a 5 star review. My chickens have been laying consistently, and I think it may be because they always have water to drink not just in the morning and night when I would take out fresh water. ... show more

    • I want a refund. These are junk.

These are absolutely AWFUL! I bought these this summer and they were really neat looking but I found out they come apart very easily. Instructions are to fill them upside down once you lock the two pieces together, but the tabs don't stay in the locking piece, dumping the entire feeder's worth of water on the ground. But I lived with it, because if I was very careful, I could get the tabs to stay put. Then a month later, one of the tabs on the white plastic portion broke off. "Ok, I still have two tabs, it seems to be sufficient." Then fast forward to the first day we had temps in the 30's. Not one, but two out three feeders fell after the very thin plastic handles broke. I found myself wondering why, since they are clearly designed to hang by the handles. Then on closer inspection, the red part of the feeder on one was irreparably cracked, which makes the entire unit useless. The waterer is designed to refill after the level gets past a certain point and the cracked part was below that, causing the feeder to run dry within minutes. And this is all before we even got cold weather. Even so, after all of this, I was willing to tie a new handle through the holes where the old ones were, because I really need heated water units for my chickens. Winter is here as of October. Right now as I type we are in single digits. So you can imagine my extreme disappointment when one of the remaining units cracked when it slipped out of my hands, with only 5" left between my arms and the ground. So now I have two coops, extremely cold weather, and only one functioning watering unit. I can only hope that one of my local feed stores has a unit that I can replace these with. It's either that or run out every hour, thaw out the waterer, and refill. If I had internet at home, I would be posting pictures. I am an easy customer. I put up with several flaws and now I don't have water for my chickens. I should have replaced them at the first hint if trouble. The only reason I have this one star is because I had to in order to leave the review. ... show more

I never leave reviews but this waterer deserves one. It solved ALL my chicken watering issues (yes, I had many with my old one). The only struggle was that I DID have to “teach” my hens how to use this. But that only took about a day of me going outside every few hours and holding their little beaks to the dispenser so they could see that water came out. I know that sounds like a pain but the time it has saved me ever since was way worth the time it took me to teach them. This waterer stays cleaner because my old water dispenser the hens would sit on top of it and poop into the tray that the water came out of. Gross and very difficult to deal with in the winter! Additionally, this waterer is way easier to fill. Since it has a lid, all I do is bring a jug of clean water out with me in the morning and fill. I no longer have to unplug a waterer and bring it inside to fill it! I’ve had it for a few months now and so far, no issues. Very happy with it. ... show more

Very easy top fill using a gallon juice jug (sturdier than a milk jug), sits on a cinder block perfectly for birds to have easy access, heated and keeping under a roof cover keeps ice at bay in the coldest of North Montana zone 3 weather. Waters 8 birds and lasts a couple days. Lid comes off easy to fill. Heated base. Easy access handle for cleaning etc… ~ So happy to have found this ~ ... show more
