  • Worst people ever!
I bought 2 units to upgrade my old thermostat. They were defective units, they would not connect to wifi which is why the whole reason for me purchasing them in the first place. I contacted customer support and we tried troubleshooting every way possible and still would not work. I return them and I lose $140 restocking fee. Punch of crooks. DEFINITELY DON'T RECOMMEND!!! ... show more

  • High Tech, but annoying - NOT USER FRIENDLY
My first one only last 2 years - then it simply went black. It gets it's power from the HVAC system - there are no batteries. My experience: No errors, no warnings, no text, no email - just stopped working, and of course, so did the HVAC system. UPDATE: The thermostat turns out to be fine. My AC Tech said that system drain line was stopped up. He cleared it out and after the water drained again, the system went back on. Then the thermostat came back on, but it has lost some of its programming - the WiFi setup, which is the most annoying process. Resetting the WiFi connection, for some dumb reason, gets kicked to the Rheem app on your smart phone Not available for computers . Soooooo, if you don't have the app, there is no way to enable to Wifi to the thermostat !?!?!? - Bad Engineering). Further. Terribly expensive for a WiFI enabled programable thermostat. It was fairly intuitive to setup at first, but it has some of the programming features were simply annoying, redundant and several unexplained issues. My A/C Tech got confused, too. The worst part is that the temperature setting for A/C will not go below 71 degrees ? That's my choice, not Rheem's. The programming for daily setting has 4 programable time periods, but each day of the week has to be programmed individually. Fortunately, there is a feature that allows you to COPY the entire day and them PASTE it into each of the other 6 days. After my power outage, that programming remained intact. It issues alerts that it forward from the HVAC system and then to your email and/or text messages, Unfortunately, the error codes are not explained. All it really tells you is that you need to call for service !? This is a stupid feature, because my Tech couldn't even figure out what the error messages meant without calling Rheem. The error codes should be forwarded to the Rheem web site and then to the user with a more explicit explanation, which would have cut about an hour off the repair time, i my case. It's a smart device, but it's not fully functioning or properly designed. It is NOT ISO 9000 or ADA compliant. Some parts of the utilities are either not enabled or simply useless. Conclusion: Poor software and insufficient Human Factors testing or Quality Control. It's one thing to make sure the H/W works, but seriously, did nobody every test this with customers before approving it for sales ? It does remind me to change filters - on one of the thermostats, but not the second one I have on a separate system? Strange, since they are programmed the same way. The Rheem App is badly in need of a review, too. It needs a lot of work to become compatible with all the more popular home management systems. It does not work with Amazon or Apple or any other home management systems. What is missing is a SIMPLE HOLD or OVERRIDE function to set a temperature and just ignore the programmed schedule. Otherwise, you have to program your desired temperature in multiple steps. Most thermstats has a MANUAL mode and that is sorely missing. And, did I say EXPENSIVE ? This thermostat is twice as expensive as an identical EMMERSON or Nest thermostats and both of them have more robust and accessible apps. ... show more

  • Smart thermostat built by a team who never owned one, Avoid.
These thermostats are reason enough to avoid the Rheem Econet line, which is a shame as they are a good, reliable American HVAC system. I can't help but think the design of this unit was farmed out to an offshore outfit that had no experience with smart thermostats or frankly typical issues of home ownership. Cool features: 1. See exactly what your compressor is doing, you can geek out at subcooling values, line temps and pressures, just a wealth of info (too bad you can only read it from the actual thermostat screen, not remotely) 2. Nice looking display, readable in most lighting, touch panel is responsive, no lag 3. Shows local weather in case you didn't have a smartphone or other connected device. 4. Detects when filter media becomes clogged Top reasons to avoid: 1. No local API for 3rd party home automation, you are reliant on Rheems Cloud system which is slow and at times unresponsive. if its offline or your internet is out, you can't do anything with the thermostat other than using the touch interface. Other thermostats provide a local API (Radiothermostat for example). 2. Thermostat is far from smart. The unit is heated by the touch screen light and the temp compensation is poor. As soon as the heat comes on, it blows enough air over it to drop the temperature 2-3 degree, which is enough to make it panic and think that it isn't getting adequate cooling, so it turns on Aux heat. Again a bit of coding to offset the heat from the display, and at least not turning on the electric heat for the first 30 minutes. There is a menu item buried in the installer settings called Aux. Heat Hold Off Time. Maybe you aren't too worried about that, but it doesn't even have a simple recirculate mode, ie run the fan for 10 minutes every hour, what house perfectly balances temperature? 3. Nearly useless App. It lets you change modes and temperature. Doesn't even show you runtime for the day or week! At times its unresponsive due to the remote server as well. All said, the hardware is really nice, its just the software is very unfinished. Compared to other thermostats, at least from the end user perspective, it is so behind the times. An HVAC tech might love it as it gives him stuff he normally has to connect gauges to the unit for, but for most people they know they have an HVAC problem when its not blowing cold or hot air. Skip this and more over skip buying any HVAC system that forces you to use this thermostat. ... show more

  • Sorry, Amazon- 0 for 2
Delivered in a plastic pillow pack (this is on Amazon) and the unit carton it was packed in was damaged and filthy (this is on Seller). I suspect it was used. It works, but had to be reset by the tech who installed it. Sorry, Amazon 0 for 2 on this purchase. For a $270 T'stat, disappointing.
