This is a fantastic little system, that is absolutely worth the asking price. It's super easy to load games on as it automatically puts the files on your micro sd card when you plug it into the system. I was worried about the size at first, but it fits my large hands perfectly and is comfortable for long sessions. It also runs a surprising amount of roms and at decent quality to boot, so most of the roms you're already playing on your computer can go right on to this. All in all, a fantastic value for money that functions as advertised. 10/10. (Just one note: Make sure your computer either has a slot for a Micro SD or that you have a dongle to plug it in, otherwise you can't load games.)

The emulation is great, it’s comfortable even for its size. It fits perfectly in my work pants pocket knife pocket. Easy to add games. Cons: the power button seems to not always register where i have to press multiple times. When it powers off sometimes it refuses to turn on after several attempts. I dropped it once from a chair and the screen came loose and cracked

Pocketable, decent battery life, and plays quite a few different systems. I put Knulli on it, as I don't like the stock Anbernic OS, but it's playable out of the box. I just prefer to have more control over my system, and have actual themes. Overall, it's worth the effort to customize. Still, I'd give it as a gift to a novice. Definitely a solid purchase for a pocketable gaming device.

Very quick review: I bought for $38 with a coupon, so this review is based off this price point. The screen is fantastic, the device is solid, it comes with a brand name 64GB micro SD card (a Toshiba sub-brand) that is LOADED! The fact that this plays Dreamcast decently at this price and size is insane! This device is very portable. You can load it up with custom firmware, if you so choose. The buttons feel good (the right-side buttons are a bit on the smaller side, but I'm 5'10" and I can play just fine, so a non-issue with me at this size and price). The mono sound is sufficient at this price point and size. The case feels great. I also bought one for a friend, and they love it! This is an amazing stocking stuffer, gift, or whatever for anyone that likes gaming. Soooo much value at $40!!

I purchased this for my nephew. Though I never purchased an anbernic handheld before, I did inquire about it after seeing a picture of someone I knew using it. I was aware that many of the games where retro titles and I figured my nephew might enjoy it so I purchased it. The first thing that was off putting was the size of the handheld. It definitely appeared bigger in the picture but it is quite small(smaller or the same as my iphone se I believe) and although I think it should be an okay size for the nephew or someone with small hands, the size was definitely a bit inadequate for my personal use. When I initially ran the handheld, I was surprised to find it had a ton of games loaded on their already. It pretty much had games from 3-6th generations on there which I honestly did not expect. This even included arcade games and although some prime retro titles were missing, I knew I was going to be able to load some of the ones I had in my possession on there. Unfortunately, loading games onto the handheld is not as simple as I hoped it would be. I was hoping that I would just be able to connect the cable from the usb-c port of the handheld to usb-a port of my PC to access the storage but that port is just for charging. I had to purchase a usb card reader as my PC doesn't come with it built in so keep this in mind. After doing some research, I found that the firmware that came with the handheld wasn't up to date so I attempted to update it and ran into a very frustrating issue. Apparently, the latest firmware that was available for the model was only for the 16G handheld model which was 1.8. When trying to add this firmware it would essentially partition the storage in a way that would leave 90% of the storage space unformatted. What got me even more perturbed was finding out that I could only use a firmware version that was 4 versions behind in order to get something that supported the 64G model. The version the handheld was on initially was 1.6 so I was a bit dumbfounded as to why this wasn't available on Anbernic's website. I was unfortunately in a rush to get this done for my nephew and all of that took quite some time so I didn't to get to mess around with it as much as I would have liked to. Navigation didn't seem too terrible though I do worry that he may have a bit of a time with figuring out how to quit out of games. Though my initial experience with the R28XX wasn't the best, I wouldn't totally be against getting another handheld from anbernic. I know there is a newer model releasing next year that may end up around the same price, so you may want to hold off and see if that model is any better. I really do like the fact it came with so many games already loaded but the size and the support that was lacking for firmware really needs improving before I give this a full stamp of approval.

RG28XX arrived as described with a 64GB Kioxia SD card running the stock OS. I flashed CFW muOS Pixie onto a 64GB SanDisk UHS-I card — runs well with fast boot times. Hardware buttons are a little loose, but the actual inputs (D-pad, face buttons, triggers) feel surprisingly good for the price. Vibration is functional. Battery life is accurate to the manufacturer claim (~8 hours), with higher drain expected when using PortMaster. Overall, great value for retro gaming — just don’t expect miracles from the screen or hardware at this price point. Not a plug-and-play device for total beginners; some basic setup knowledge goes a long way.
