"Toy" walkie-talkies have come a long way since when I was a kid. These radios have several features that used to require a "real" radio: multiple channels, a "squelch" feature (i.e. you don't have to listen to white noise when no one's talking), etc. They're certainly more powerful as well. I didn't see an advertised wattage, but I could tell in testing that these radios have some power. It is radio, so you might have to hold the exactly transceiver 6" from your coronary artery, stand away from any AC transformers, open any aluminum blinds in your home, and so on... and other people can talk on it LOL These handsets run on AAAs and they do drain quickly if you're talking.
