  • Caution.
Size: 1 Breeder Block
The only problem I have with this stuff is if I don’t let it dry out for a few days after adding water to expand the stuff it has a tendency to mold easier. So I recommend you set aside a couple bins to allow this stuff to dry out. For my Kingsnake’s enclosure, he has a ventilation fan so it’s not as important that the substrate gets thoroughly dried as it will dry in the enclosure wayyyyy easier. For my Boa though, if I don’t let the stuff thoroughly dry, his enclosure will sit at 90% humidity and after 2 weeks I’ll see mold growth. Again though, if I let the stuff dry first it’s not an issue. If I later add water in spots I know will dry quicker, it’ll keep the humidity up no problem and I haven’t noticed mold growth this way. Great stuff, just be mindful. ... show more

  • The Amazing Reptichip!
Size: 1 Breeder Block
I have an ARS rack with 20 pretty large tubs, it's an ARS-70 series and ARS-80 series stacked on top of each other. I used a block of Reptichip and a block of Growit, the Growit seemed like it was the left over trash that was sorted out of the Reptichip bedding! There's no comparison at all. Needless to say I won't be getting any more Growit even though it was less expensive. I just ordered two more blocks of Reptichip. So far all my snakes just love it. I tried aspen and it was a mess, the snakes were getting it in their mouth when feeding, and it didn't hold the moisture and would mold very fast. Plus it didn't remove odors hardly at all. This Reptichip stuff is amazing, one block will hold about five gallons of water and expand to probably 3x - 4x the size of the original block. I've heard reviews that people only spot clean once a week and change it out once every three months! I've tried aspen, newspaper, paper towels, etc.. This stuff is by far the best I've used so far, you can't smell the snake poop, holds moisture like you wouldn't believe, and seems like it will last a long time. It may be more expensive up front but seems like it would save you in the long run. I used to spot clean every day with newspaper and paper towels. With this stuff I spot clean once every three days, seems like once a week would be sufficient. Makes keeping snakes so much easier. Now instead of cleaning snake tubs every day I can pull them out and play with them! ... show more

  • Worth the extra money
Size: 1 Breeder Block
This stuff expands fast. It isn't hard like some of the others and each piece is kind of spongey. Pieces aren't huge, kind of medium to small. It smells really nice, I use boiling hot water to expand mine in rubbermaids because I want it sanitized before I put into my ball python enclosures.. I did that on the 30th of October and it has been about 10 days-I haven't had to mist this stuff since expanding it. It holds humidity great. It does dry out some at the surface but in the hides, it holds amazing. Especially well if you use 3+ inches. I had been reluctant to buy this seeing how other chips of similar type were cheaper on here and so went with a cheaper option at first..I regret not buying this from the start..The quality and suspicion of moths in the cheaper option caused me ALOT of headache. I haven't had any problems with Reptichip so far. ... show more

Best balance of value and quality it seems. With 5 reptiles, that's a big deal to me.

  • Hasn't ever let me down
Size: 1 Breeder Block
Works great for my ball pythons. Holds enough moisture without molding, and rough enough for them to easily get their sheds off in one piece. If you're getting it for the first time it might not look like a whole lot but once you start breaking the block apart it expands a LOT. Some bags I've noticed can be pretty dusty so maybe take it apart somewhere with decent airflow or wear a mask to protect your lungs. Or be like me and deal with 5-10 minutes of non-stop sneezing and wheezing... (Don't be like me.) This stuff lasts me a good while, it's easy to clean, easy to store (I have a tote I bought from Walmart that holds it all just fine) it's chunks so it doesn't really stick to itself so if your snake likes to burrow this might not be up to their liking. I've personally never had an issue with any of my snakes eating it or getting hurt by it, no blockages or anything of the sort. ... show more

  • Nice substrate, will never use anything else.
Size: 1 Breeder Block
Works well, love this substrate! Doesn’t smell bad either. Holds humidity really well. It does have a hard time soaking up water and expanding if you aren’t using a watering hose. My little House Snake LOVES to burrow in this.

  • Better than ReptiBark for a Northern Blue Tongue Skink
Size: 1 Breeder Block
I have a juvenile Northern Blue Tongue Skink so she needs her climate to be less humid but still good for burrowing, I had reptiBark in there (and it still kind of is) but it was very dusty and has a strong smell to it, especially when wet (and even more stinky with urate and feces) so I bought coconut chips since I heard it's better for odor control and still moderates humidity well with low dust. I love it. In one of my photos you can see I have the bottom 2" with reptiBark, since it was still new and clean I left it in to add depth for burrowing, and the top inch or so is this coconut reptiChip. In other places in her enclosure I have deeper chip levels for enrichment. So far there is no strong odor, I saw almost no dust pouring it in, and it covers well. I haven't even used a quarter of the bag and it's covered 1-2" all over my 40 gallon breeder tank (36x16 in). She was hiding under her cork bark log but came out shortly after to dig in the deeper reptiChip layer on the other side. She clearly likes it too! My only concern is that as I was pulling it out of the bag and sprinkling it around there were some sharp pieces, not sure if it was the rigid fibers or what. Probably won't hurt anything but I'll be mindful if I let her hunt in her tank that she doesn't swallow any substrate. For anyone wondering what else is in this setup I have some ZooMed real moss ($5 Amazon), a ZooMed dual dome light with one side a 5.0 UVB and the other has a basking bulb for bearded dragons (only way I could achieve 95-105F on the warm side), this lamp is attached with a $10 lamp stand I got on Amazon, a large trunk hide I got at PetSmart for $15, Cork Bark from ZooMed (on Amazon $15), fake ivy vine (Amazon, $10 Flukers brand), a brick from Lowe's ($2, sanitized before placing, for nail filing and climbing), a 6x6" flat tile (Lowe's, $1) for basking/ambient belly heat, some air plants ($12 on Amazon), I have an under the tank heater but it's small (only for up to 20 gallons but I only wanted a small section in the middle of the tank to stay warm in case she needs to heat at night when the lights are off) that was $20 ZooMed brand bought on Amazon, and a glass Pyrex water dish that will be replaced with a reptile bowl soon. Keeping things simple for now since she's young and still adjusting but I think the bases are covered. Hope this helps! ... show more
