Compared to other aquarium sands I’ve used, this one stands out for how clean it arrives and how even the grain size is. The black color is deep and looks excellent once submerged. Minimal rinsing needed and no sharp edges, which is important for fish. It was easy to shape for aquascaping and stays put once placed. Rinse before use, but overall it’s fairly clean. Will cloud your tank but this is normal. Allow a few hours to clear if you have a good filtration system. Beautiful sand, makes the tank colors pop and the little sparkles gets the attention of my curious shrimp! They love it, and my fish do too! Great quality, safe for fish and shrimp! I actually really like this sand. I originally bought it thinking it might look a bit too synthetic—almost like something you’d use in a kids’ tank—so I had some buyer’s remorse at first. But after adding it to my tank, I was pleasantly surprised. It looks much more natural than I expected and really improved the overall appearance. I got this mainly for my corydoras so they’d have something softer to sift through compared to gravel, and they seem to love it so far. I would definitely recommend rinsing it thoroughly before use since it’s pretty dusty and has some floating debris at first. After a good rinse though, it turned out perfect. ... show more

Took forever to get here! I did order two bags and I believe the label or package got destroyed during delivery and caused it to take longer. However- back to the sand! This is a picture from today. I bought this back in August of 2024, and it's still holding up great! After the first few initial rinses (as you're supposed to do), the water has never been cloudy. The color of the sand still looks new. It does not clog up the filter. It's safe to use with aquatic turtles. My only complaint is that it leaves some black substance on a few surfaces, such as the leftmost artificial plant in the photo. If you use more non-porous decoration, you'll be fine. ... show more

This is great sand. When I put it in the tank I did not have murky water like I did when I put white sand in. I gave both white and black rinsing before I put it in. With the black sand however I added more once the tank was full and I still didn't have a problem. Now I have a lot of Corys that like to kick up the sand during their Cory parties, but it never affects the water clarity. Honestly I was excited to see the "Galaxy" sparkle, but the only way I see it is in my video. In real life I do not see it. My video was taken with blue light so that's why it might have shown up. Again, in real life it doesn't. It's still good sand and I'm glad I got it. Just don't expect a meteor shower in your tank and it won't be a disappointment. The price was reasonable and delivery was very fast, but then again it was Amazon so I expected that. I hope this helps some of my fellow fish keepers! ... show more
