  • Hardware is great, but user's manual and software is lacking.
I'm only rating this a three because of the User Manual and the software. [ I upgraded the score to a 4 because I really do like the hardware. ] I hope the seller (manufacturer) will read this and let me know if I misrepresent anything. If I do, I will certainly edit or delete this post. First, is the hardware -- its pretty good and does what its supposed to do. What it doesn't do is save video to anything but the micro SD card. It won't ftp to your own server, it won't save files to the Reolink cloud, and it doesn't save them to your computer. That is, it doesn't save files directly to those devices. What it does do is save video to the micro SD card and then you can manually save those files to wherever you want. But, until you connect to the device and manually save the video files, they are only on the SD card. The pan/tilt works very nicely, but with the normal expected delay. The charge cable isn't waterproof, so if you intend to power the unit outside with a charger, you might need to provide some waterproofing. However, if you use the solar panel for power, the connection is waterproof, but the solar panel cable is permanently attached to the solar panel, so it can't be swapped out and plugged into a charger. One thing that is nice is that the camera will send an e-mail or phone text upon motion detection and then you can open the app to see what's going on. One thing to note, though, is that Reolink doesn't give you any instruction on how to send the text to your phone. Its not hard, but its something they should have addressed. Second, is the User's Manual -- there isn't one. It doesn't exist. What you get is a very simplistic and barely adequate quick setup guide. I think the company wants you to go to their support blog for additional information, but the blog is equally as lacking. You are basically on your own. Someone needs to write a good, comprehensive User's Manual to include small details such as "what's the largest SD card it can handle", how to send a phone text, or what fluent is. Am I the only one that doesn't know what fluent quality video is? I can't believe this unit was put out without a comprehensive User's Manual. Finally, the software is a mishmash of convoluted menus and hidden buttons. To make matters worse, there are two versions of the windows software; version 7 and version 8. Both are available on the download site and each is significantly different than the other. I'm not sure which version I like best, so I have both loaded. Version 7 is odd in that it offers a 32-bit or 64-bit variant, but near as I can tell, the 64-bit variant is really the 32-bit as it loaded under Program Files (x86) when I loaded it. And, if that isn't bad enough, the android version has a look and feel that is different than either of the two windows versions. Nothing is constant. You have to learn where things are for each variant of the software. Its almost like Reolink didn't have a project manager for the software and told 2 or 3 different groups of people to go write the software without talking to each other about the design. You may have seen comments of mine on the Reolink Go PT cellular camera. My intent was to have a number of cameras in several remote locations. I had difficulty with the Go PT, so returned it and ordered the Argus PT. My intention now is to use a Verizon MiFi to provide internet for all the Argus cameras. The MiFi only costs $20/mo, whereas each Go PT would have had individual expenses with a paid-card in each camera. Will I buy another? Probably, but I'll wait for the RLC-523WA. Eventually, I want to have about 5 cameras. I can work around the other issues, but I do think Reolink needs to get better, at least, consistent, software and a comprehensive user manual. ... show more

  • Great, full service, video surveillance camera! Great tech support also!
Purchased two Reolink Argus 2 cameras (with solar panel accessory) in August 2020. Liked them so much that I purchased another one (without solar panel) in October. Then I bought two more (with solar panels) for my daughter for Christmas. These are such great cameras. I put 64gb SD cards in every camera and they capture all motion triggered videos and store them on the SD cards. I can view all of my cameras on the Reolink app on my iPhone and iPad, plus on my home or remote PC. So even if I am out of the country I can view everything on my property. These cameras pan, tilt, & zoom and have night vision as well. I have set mine up so that I get an email sent to me whenever there is motion on each camera. The email consists of a high definition snapshot of what caused the motion alert. If I have any concerns based on this email alert. I can check my phone and access the cameras stored videos and watch a 30 second video of what caused the motion. With the solar panels, I was able to place cameras in places normally inaccessible to electric outlets (like on trees with the focus onto the front of the house). The solar panels only need about 2-3 hours of direct sunlight to stay fully charged. I have never seen my camera batteries less than 90% charged; even after several days in a row of cloudy conditions. One of the best features about these cameras is that there are no monthly service fees for monitoring videos. All of the motion videos are stored on the SD cards located in the cameras. I can watch motion events that are from yesterday or a month ago. With my 64gb SD cards my cameras hold videos for about 2-3 months before they eventually get overwritten with new events. If there is an old event you need to permanently save for some reason, then you can download it to your phone or PC. I had one minor issue with my cameras that was causing me to get email alerts where some of the pictures were sort of 'bleached out' (sort of like an over-exposure issue). I contacted customer support (my tech was DORIS) and they sent me several recommendations and finally a downloadable firmware upgrade that eliminated my problems. Great to know if I have an issue, that Reolink is going to be there so solve it. In summary, I would highly recommend these cameras to anyone wanting a high level security system without the monthly monitoring costs that are associated with most of the competing brands. And the solar panel accessory is a great option if you want to place cameras on poles, trees, sheds (or any place where electricity isn't an easy option). As I mentioned, I purchased these cameras from 4-6 months ago and they are still going strong with no interruptions from high heat, rainstorms, fog, snow and even ice storms. ... show more
