Description

Is reMarkable like a regular tablet computer? No, it is a purpose-built digital notebook for distraction-free handwriting, sketching, reading, and document markup. It deliberately lacks web browsers and apps by design to protect your focus. Can I read books on it, and is there an app store? There is no app store. You can read books, but it only supports DRM-free EPUB and PDF files. DRM-protected ebooks, such as those purchased from Kindle or Kobo, are not supported. Is it normal to see screen ghosting on the display? Yes, ghosting is completely normal for E-Ink displays, where traces of previously displayed images sometimes remain partially visible on the screen. It clears when the screen refreshes, so there's nothing to worry about. Why does my reMarkable feel slower than a regular tablet? It feels slightly slower because the display physically moves particles through liquid, rather than switching pixels on and off. This takes a fraction of a second longer to protect the display's long-term health, but is normal. What system and handwriting languages are supported? System languages include English, German, French, and Spanish. If you're someone who still prefers taking handwritten notes in a notebook, this is a great alternative. It's lightweight, easy to use, and I really like that you don't need an internet connection to use it. You can create folders to organize your notes and easily go back and retrieve them later, so you get the convenience of digital organization without giving up the feeling of writing by hand. I've also found the writing experience much better than using an iPad. There's no clicking or tapping sound when you write, and the surface feels smoother and more natural. During the day, the screen is also very easy to see without the mirror-like glare or reflections you can get from an iPad. The one downside I've noticed is that the screen can be difficult to see when you're in a dark room, so you'll need some light. Overall, if you love taking notes on paper but don't love carrying around or storing a bunch of notebooks, this is the perfect middle ground. You still get the simplicity of handwriting your notes, but they're much easier to organize, store, retrieve, and take with you. ... show more

This is my first Remarkable tablet & so far so good, with a few callouts. Pros: - Pretty easy to jump in & start using - It’s very lightweight, but feels sturdy - The size is perfect for note-taking - Choosing writing instruments is easy - The feel of the stylus on the tablet is really nice! - You can use the other end of the Marker plus to erase, that’s cool! Not-really-Cons: - When setting up for the first time, BE CAREFUL when typing in the urls, if you don’t add a “.” between “my” & “remarkable “, you will get spammy sites that want you to download apps - The screen is not backlit, so you cannot use in a darker area, but paper is the same so… - I would have preferred a case versus an envelope type folio - it’s odd that you can select colors to highlight things, but it’s completely grey versus a color I give it a 5 star rating for now! I am still learning, but think it will be a great way to take notes on paper, but still get them into my laptop. There are templates on the app & the tablet, plus tons on Etsy. So I got the reMarkable Paper Pure because I was tired of carrying my heavy iPad around just to jot down notes or look over a document. Honestly, best decision. It's lightweight and small enough that I forget it's even in my bag, and there are no notifications popping up like my Apple devices, so I'm not getting pulled away every five minutes to check something. The Google Drive integration has been a nice surprise. I can pull documents straight onto it and everything just syncs, no extra steps. Battery life is amazing, probably because this device skips the color screen and backlight the pricier Paper Pro has, and the Marker Plus magnetizes to the side so I don't lose it. There's also an on-screen keyboard if I don't feel like handwriting something. Functionality-wise...the handwriting-to-text is a little clunky so far, but that's probably just me still figuring it out. Otherwise, all the other features are straight-forward and user-friendly. My one real complaint: I wish the background was whiter or brighter by default. Reading in a dim room is harder than it should be, since this model doesn't have the reading light the Paper Pro has. If that matters to you, might be worth the extra cost for the Pro. For me, sitting at a desk most of the time, it's not a dealbreaker. However, the screen seems very durable and feels a lot like writing on actual paper (versus the ipad's slick glossy surface). But here's the real reason I reach for this every day: I used to have notepads and sticky notes piling up on my desk and bag, getting lost, crumpled, or ruined before I even used what I wrote. This fixed all of that, and has wide variety of templates to get you started. I've had the Paper Pure about a week. I'm using it for meeting notes, journaling, and as a straight replacement for the stack of paper notebooks I've carried for years — and it's the first device that's actually displaced them. The writing feel is the whole product, and it delivers. It doesn't feel like writing on glass. There's a slight friction to the surface that makes the pen behave like a pen, and my handwriting stays legible instead of degrading into scrawl the way it does on a tablet with a stylus. Long note-taking sessions don't leave my hand tired. What sold me is what it doesn't do. No notifications, no browser, no apps competing for attention. When I open it in a meeting, notes are the only thing available. That constraint turns out to be the entire feature. The real difference from paper is that my notes aren't a dead archive anymore. Everything I write is searchable and syncs off the device, which is the thing paper never solved. One caveat for anyone buying this for work: I couldn't get it onto my company's secure WiFi. The network was visible and the device supports standard enterprise authentication, but my credentials were rejected — our setup is built around certificates pushed to managed devices, and there's no way for a device like this to participate in that without developer mode, which I'm not doing on a work network. It syncs fine on other networks, so it's a "check with your IT setup before you buy" issue rather than a dealbreaker. It's expensive, and it does one job. If you want a tablet that also does email and video, buy something else. If you think better on paper but hate that your notebooks go into a drawer and never come out, this is the device. I honestly didn't expect to love my reMarkable as much as I do. I'm someone who has always needed to physically write things down, and I've never been able to completely give up paper. The reMarable is the first thing that has actually changes that for me. It's simple to use, feels like I'm writing on paper, and I can finally keep everything in one place instead of having notes and notebooks everywhere. I use it for work, personal, lists, planning - pretty much everything at this point. I've tried using my phone and OneNote to stay organized, but neither ever really stuck for me. My reMarkable has. The ReMarkable Paper Pure is a great purchase. The writing surface makes it feel like you’re writing on paper and has an anti-glare screen so it’s much easier on the eyes. You can also read the screen easily in direct sunlight. It’s very lightweight as well so it’s very portable.
