Ideal for the tolerances of a Honda ball joint if you don't have the money to pay a greedy eBay seller $300 to $700 for a vintage OEM-commissioned MAC Tools separator. I have a '95 Civic. People are complaining about this tool breaking. Use good sense. I'm familiar with this process, and my ball joints get very firmly seated, with incredible potential energy. I cranked this to an uncomfortable point of tension after which I knew it would likely become another casualty like those read about in these reviews. With all of that force on the separator you need to take a small sledge and give the control arm end -- on a '95 Civic, anyway -- a sharp but not punishing swat and the ball joint will release with an unnerving snap. Use the tool smartly, don't abuse it, and this will be a great purchase that you won't regret. ... show more

I own a 2017 Honda Ridgeline and this works perfectly for popping ball joints. I would definitely recommend this for any ball joint work or replacing the struts.

Hasn't broken yet, had it over a year and used it more than 12 times. It doesn't have the keeper chain most of these have, so keep that in mind as you may drop it on the ground when it breaks the joint loose. I keep my cart underneath with a few fender covers or whatever to catch it and that works or I have a chain if I bother to dig it out of the toolbox. Good budget tool, will not work on some Land Rovers (personal experience 2018 LR Disco, had to borrow tool from another dealership to get the control arms done). It is versatile still and will work on different brands. Easy to use as long as you have a long breaker bar or ratchet, would not recommend impact tools but if you do, please consider leaving me in your will and I'm not driving you to the hospital in my car. ... show more

    • Poor design, won't work on Honda ball joints
Don't buy this for Honda ball joints. The center adjuster has so much slop. The driving bolt will slip off the end before the ball joint pops loose from the knuckle. Avoid!

Works good on my 2018 a4 to get tie rod end off. Knuckle is made of aluminum and hitting didn't really help. This made it easy.
