  • Actual instructions for Kumara K552 RGB programmable lighting
Size: 87 Key Blue Switch Color: Black RGB Backlit
As others have said, it's got great initial build quality and satisfying clicky keys, but if you ordered the programmable RGB version, you may be frustrated like me that the product manual and manufacturer's website instructions do not explain how to program the keys. Here's how to do it (thanks seller ChallengerUSA for providing these steps) 1. Press FN and the ` (Tilde) key. 2. Once the red lights on the right (the Caps and Scroll Lock indicators) are blinking, press FN and the right arrow key. 3. You'll see the ` key glowing a certain color; press any key on the keyboard to set that key to the current color. 4. Press FN and the right arrow key to move to the next color. Press any keys you want for that color. 5. Repeat step 4 until you've got all the keys customized as you like. (You can also set individual keys to not be lit at all during this process.) 6. When you're all done, press FN + ` to exit customization mode and use your keyboard as usual. ... show more

  • Clacky boi can be tamed
Size: 87 Key Blue Switch Color: White RGB Backlit
We stan a clacky boi and boi does he clack. Tl;dr? This little roaring dragon is a fun little attention hog and worth the very little bit of effort it takes to tame. O-rings and a towel did the trick. The little Kumara is like an excitable younger sibling compared to the other mechanical keyboard I have. It's bright and loud and wants attention, and I love it. COLOR / LIGHTS: It's got so many RGB presets I don't think it even remembers what they all are: sweep left/right, pulse, shimmer, fade, pulse, solid color, touch light-up — the list goes on. (You can cycle through them all mechanically with FN+INS through PgDn and change the color of the solid-color ones or the pulse direction with the arrow keys.) The white case/keys make the RGB lights pop. And it's got quite a lot to say while you're typing. SWITCHES: These blue switch keys have a bright, bouncy feeling to them that I can't get enough of, along with their satisfying click. SOUND: It's not just the blue switches that make it audibly loud. Three sounds make this little wyrm the loudest in his clutch: (1) you've got your clicks, which come from the switches themselves; (2) you've got your clacks, which come from the plastic keycaps striking the body when they bottom out; and (3) you've got a ping resonating through the metal body when the keys pop back into place. Take all those and put them on a metal/plastic combo body that amplifies like a drum and you've got a keyboard that sounds like a room full of tiny, angry, old-timey reporters live inside. But don't be scared off by the Kumara's roar. It can be tamed! Don't get me wrong, this will never be a quiet keyboard, but you shouldn't be looking at blue switches if you want quiet, anyway (switches are differentiated by color; blues are designed to go "click!"). MODIFICATION: Here's how I brought this wyrm to heel: 1. O-rings, specifically the Cherry MX Rubber O-Ring Switch Dampeners Blue . The blues are more noise dampening than Cherry's red. You can get an off-brand or try to do something yourself and you might be fine, but I picked the Cherries so I'd know what I was getting. The Kumara came with a keycap remover, so all I had to provide was the rings and a pair of modeling tweezers to slip them on with. The rings keep the keys from bottoming out and clacking against the keyboard body, which was the source of the truly clamorous clatter. 2. I pulled apart some cotton balls and stuffed them inside the larger keycaps to reduce open spaces that resonate. The difference is barely noticeable, which is why I only worried about the larger keys. But it's a little something if you want to go that extra bit. One of the other reviewers took the case apart and inserted foam columns, which would probably do even more. 3. I have a lovely scarf I never wear that I put under the keyboard. It's pretty and it keeps the desk from further amplifying the noise. You can also use a small towel, or one of those extra-large gaming mouse pads (like this one if you want something more subtle than a patterned scarf. With these really simple modifications the Kumara only roars as loud as I want it to, while I get to enjoy all its bright exuberance. OTHER NOTES: 1) My use case is typing long documents and programming. I cannot speak to its performance as a gaming keyboard, though I've heard a different switch type besides blue might be better. Google up mechanical switch types to find what's right for you if you're a serious gamer. 2) I use this with a Mac (Macbook Pro) with no problems. I haven't extensively tested the function keys' media control functions, so I can only say the volume up/down both work. I had to tell the computer what kind of keyboard it was when I first plugged it in but since then it hasn't asked, even after disconnecting/reconnecting it. And it took about 30 seconds to go through the auto-detection process, so no big. 3) The keycaps are easy to remove and seem like any basic hot-swappable cap, and the switches aren't soldered in, so I presume it's possible to swap them as well. (Note that I'm not sure how the fact they are proprietary plays into the ability to repurpose them or whether that affects what the board accepts.) In conclusion? It's not a perfect keyboard, but it's perfect for me for the price. Worth a go if you're curious about mechanical keyboards, don't care about noise, don't mind a few extremely simple modifications, or just want something to tinker with. ... show more

  • I LOVE IT!
Size: 87 Key Blue Switch Color: Black RGB Backlit
This keyboard is amazing! That is basically all I can say about it. I have had it for a few days, (will update if needed) and I already love it! Typing on it is so comfortible and feels like pillows on your fingers. The actuation force is perfect in my opinion and the clicky clacky sound is so satisfying (especially coming from a quiet membrane keyboard). I didnt really use the number pad at all so this tenkeyless keyboard is really nice for saving space. I got the fully RGB edition for $59.99, and it was definitely worth it! Right when I picked up the box I knew it is very good quality because of the weight. I took it out of the box and it felt really nice to the touch, and seems like it should be atleast $100. It also looks amazing with the RGB leds with all of the awesome different functions and colors. I was just using a membrane keyboard and have never had a mechanical keyboard before, nor have I even felt one. Already, I can tell I am in love with mechanical keyboards, I am typing this review with the keyboard right now and I dont want to stop typing because it feels sooo good! If you are looking for a fairly cheap mechanical keyboard, go with this one! It is definitely worth every penny, plus some. I would recommend if you like having different colored backlighting on your keyboard and have $60 to spend, then go with the RGB edition. I hit FN + end twice and customized the leds to the Seahawks colors. Go hawks! I did free shipping because I wasnt in a rush to get it (even though I wanted it as soon as possible) and it came in just about 7 days/1 week. Im sorry for the length of this review (if you are even reading this anymore please click the helpful button below) and I guess im gonna have to stop typing on this keyboard for now:( Anyway, I very highly recommend this keyboard! Have a good day. *UPDATE* I wanted to add that I figured out how to turn on the leds when the computer is shut down. All you have to do is either hold the FN button until it turns on or press FN + END or whatever so it will turn on. So now whenever I turn my pc off I Turn the leds on for something to look at. You can also change all the leds just like when the pc is on and even do the FN + END/5 and customize the leds. I just wanted to update the review so if anyone wanted to know if you could do that, well now you know. Also, the keyboard is holding up really good and I am still super happy with my purchase. ... show more
