  • Pleasantly surprised.
Size: 790-4
I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to write this one. This rod casts as well as my sage rods, if not better. I’ve been casting for over 30 years. My T&T 7-8wt was broken (loose grip) and I remember a guide telling me he uses these rods for his clients. I didn’t expect much. I caught over 120 salmon in Alaskan Bush (av wt about 10-12 lbs). Couldn’t be happier with this rod. I had a buddy and guide give it a try and they both agreed. You won’t be disappointed. ... show more

  • Great Rod!
Size: 5WT 8'6"
This is a great rod for the price. Took it out for its first trip last weekend on the Rogue River. I used it to cast a dual dry fly set up. It handled the 8-10 inch rainbows and browns I caught with no problem and its light weight made it really fun. It even handled the this 15' brown with no problem. This would make a great starter rod for some one getting into fly fishing. ... show more

  • Great Rod For the Money!
Size: 6WT 9'6"
I recently purchased the Vice in a 9 1/2 foot 6 weight. If you are looking for a fast action fly rod that won’t break the bank, this is it! This things casts like a rocket and turns over streamers with ease. For larger trout and smallmouth bass, this thing is money. If you’re looking to upgrade from the rod you started fly fishing with, this is a solid option. I bought this to back up a more expensive rod, but I like it so much I’m going to take it to Colorado this summer as my primary rod. ... show more

  • Great price good rod.

It’s a good rod at a great price. The carrying case is well made and easy to carry when doing a bit of hiking.

  • Nice rod, but not for beginners
Size: 4WT 8'6"
If I had paid better attention during my shopping I would have learned that this rod, being a fast action rod, is not ideal for beginners because its stiffness makes it difficult to feel the backcast loading--which makes it difficult to master the timing without watching the entire backcast which kills my aim. A fast action rod is also not great/designed for short casts either, and since my goal is small stream trout fishing I'm exchanging mine for the Redington Classic Trout for its medium action. 4 star rating given because the rod didn't fail me in any way, but rather I failed to put the necessary time and thought into my rod shopping. Redington says it's "...designed to be accessible to all anglers" and in the end I don't disagree with that, I simply misunderstood that to mean it would make a good starter rod. The case is nice, and the build quality of the rod seems excellent. Unfortunately as a total newb I struggled with tailing loops which put repeated "wind knots" into my tippet when I used this rod. That's on me though, and I'm only writing this to maybe save someone the hassle. I also own the Redington Crosswater rod and I'm much better at throwing tight loops with it. If you're looking for your first fly rod and want to keep the cost low, I can definitely vouch for the quality, capability, and relative user-friendliness of that rod. ... show more
