  • Decent woofer for home use
I had been looking/testing little 8" woofers for a home project. Tried several of the Dayton Audio's less that $100, 80 to 90 Hz peak resonators. (as I call them) Several of the car audio brands, with their way to high Qts. ( image dynamic id8d4- 1.4 !!,, skar srd8- .84,, ct sounds bio8- .82 ) I needed a Qts of .6 or preferable less so it would end up with a Qtc of .7 to .8 max, in a smaller sealed box I wanted to use. Any higher than that and it gets and little to muddy/boomy for me. (I did a lot of experimenting with the kick drum on my set, heads, beaters, dampening, etc., to get a nice tight & low but tuneful sound ) As a last effort in the ones marketed for car audio, ( I love these labels. A driver is a driver. If it can stand up in a certain environment, it can be used there, if it specs works for you. They're all just an electrical to mechanical transducer. Nothing more. [ sorry, rant over] ) I tried this Recoil. Ran the vc's in series. Most home amps can't run below 4 ohms. Did my usual tests. ( mic at Don Keele's 1/4" close mic setup ) A full range freq sweep on my 6' x 8' test baffle. (see 1st insert) Broke it in for about 10 hours and ran the T/S parameters ( see 2nd insert) LEAP told me it would run pretty nice in about a .8 ft3 box. I put it into my 1.0 ft3 test box, reduced it down and did some sweeps. Hooked it up to a 100 watt plate amp I use for testing, set it at 125 Hz, ( its fixed at 12 db ) The 3rd insert is of just that. The 4th insert is a double sweep, both with Peq's. The flatter one should say an f3 of 35 Hz, not 38 also. But I needed a +6 db boost instead of just +3 db just get that extra 3 Hz. Since I'm just using this for a low power background music system, it's not worth it. Besides, a room is going to destroy these nice smooth sweeps with it's nodes. As normal, I'll have to re-peq after I put them in place. But at least I saw that I finally had something I could work with. I went and ordered a 2nd one. I made two .8 ft3 boxes out of 1" MDF, with bracing. Started with just my standard basic 1" NuFoam lining on the walls. Its not to bad sounding for such an inexpensive woofer. Not as tight and controlled as my Dayton Audio RSS265 10 in. with the same basic plate amp, but that's a more expensive driver, and in a stiffer and more stuffing tweaked box.( It does make a difference ) After I finished tweaking the stuffing I ended up with a Qtc of right on .7 with an F3 of 37 Hz. Plenty low enough for a little 8" woofer. I'd never try to expect a 8" driver to reproduce 20 to 30 HZ signals on par with its 60 to 100 Hz. area volume level. I laugh every time I see someone trying. ( NOTE; I talking about in a room, not in small enclosure like a car, that has it's 6db boost to it. ) So in a nut shell. If you need a little 8" sub that has a normal Qts. so you can hit a decent box alignment for better quality sounding bass, in a relatively small enclosure, this one is pretty nice, that punches over and above it's price range. ... show more

  • Worth every penny
I replaced the terrible sub speaker in my Bronco. This woke up the system with solid clean bass. It fit with little modifications. Quality was just as good as Kicker for a fraction of the price.

  • Great BANG for the buck
The media could not be loaded. Can't imagine a better 8" driver for the price (I paid $40). The TS parameters are available on recoils website. I put this driver in a 200w Acoustic Research powered home sub box and designed and 3D printed a tuned port to match. It is pretty well suited for a 0.6cuft (internal volume) box but it requires a pretty large port to avoid chuffing so fitting the port in the box is a challenge. It thumps way harder and louder than the original paper woofer, and, unlike the original, it can actually handle the full power of the 200w plate amplifier. There is a limit to how loud it will play though -- at very high volumes on this amp the sub looks like it's working harder, but it doesn't really get any louder. Seems happiest at ~3/4 volume. Unfortunately I don't know what wattage that translates to. Overall very happy with the result. I don't think you can do better at $40. The build quality is excellent. The all black design with the white stitching looks classy so it doesn't look out of place in home audio. ... show more

  • 2018 Elantra Sport factory sub replacement
2018 Elantra Sport. I bought this to replace the factory sub in the rear parcel shelf. It’s mounted infinite baffle, and seems to be just fine with that. The factory amp could power it, and it sounded okay that way, but I chose to wire it up at 4ohm’s on a kicker key 500.1 for 130 watts. That seems to be about what the woofer can withstand in IB. Deducted one star for the speaker connections sticking out further than the mounting surface, I had to break the plastic supporting the connections to get it into the parcel shelf. ... show more

  • Replacement speaker for Bass Box
This is a better performance speaker that is matched to the Amplifier. Better and longer lasting.

  • Spend a bit more and get something that will work well.
Sounds like a towel on the speaker. Cracks when pushed. Really no use for this. Maybe a place to put a plant. Sound-wise, nothing of value.
